I think perhaps if he was over 300llbs he didn't take enough for it to act quickly, he guessed the amount with teaspoons. Also he mentioned lots of empty coke cans, so if he'd been drinking coke / hadn't done the regime it might have neutralised a lot of the SN.

I think he took slightly to little for it to work quicker...but I think it helped him not to vomit.

He took longer because of his weight, and having a larger volume of blood to be converted. He didn't even vomit and was alert the entire time, so that much was easier for him.
