  • Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Challenge 40: Foraging

First off I apologize if this challenge is out of season for you but this week why not try some foraging. Do you have any wild spaces near you where you can forage for fruits of berries, maybe some salad leaves. It's a great way to connect with nature and make yourself feel like you are being productive. Obviously be careful and research what you are picking. If you don't have access to this you could try visiting the bargain section of your local supermarket and see if you can "forage" for a bargain. Or even take a trip to a thrift store and see if you could get a find, it's a type of foraging!

Personally I have blackberries local to me I can pick and a few apple trees I am going to check out. I might try and make something with my finds.
Would collecting figs from the fig tree in my yard count?
Well my challenge to myself is to try and walk a little every day. I need to get out of my house. I skipped yesterday. But that's ok.

That's cool, do you make much use of the figs? We have a damson tree at the end of our yard, they a like plums but a bit more difficult to use, some people make wine with them. Good luck with keeping up with the walking, whatever you can manage counts here.

I have been eating the figs raw but one time I made jam. They are delicious!

I heard that about an hour from where I live, there is a popular apple orchard. I need to check it out.

An Orchard sounds interesting, can you just go there and pick the apples for free? The apple trees near me are just a few on public ground so anybody can help themselves to them. I had thought about making blackberry Jam with all the blackberries I can get.

Theres a load of raspberry plants right near me but saw a lady fully collecting from them the other day. My landlord has strawberries in the garden but the wild rabbits and blackbirds usually get to the ripe ones before I do (landlord is away atm - he is much more skilled in foraging from his own supplies!).

I'm definitely an advocate for the 'yellow sticker' discount foraging!!! Common habit for me! Best recent win was a couple of posh Gu cheesecake yoghurt pots for 38p (~0.45EUR or 0.5USD if 'Gu' is even an international brand - they're super posh and way more 'dessert' than 'yoghurt', even come in a glass terrine rather than plastic pot!)

To update on last weeks challenge. I enjoyed it a few times, thanks again so much for the web link - has been bookmarked! Best I managed was a fluke 3 once but mostly 4-6 attempts required on wordle.

Oh we have GU here in the UK it's very expensive for such a small pot but I have had it bought for me a couple of times. I feel very guilty eating something so expensive, almost like it feels wasted on me. So I do like a good bargain, it makes the consumption all that more enjoyable.

I think it's around $13 per person plus $10 for a bag. Not bad at all. The orchards are on family owned farms.

Challenge 41: Motivational meme

A bit busy today and saw this just now so will use it as this weeks challenge. Are you going to try and incorporate it into your thinking? Do you have any of your own motivational memes you would like to share, can be funny, interesting, motivational, healing, whatever.

I know this is quite late, but I picked strawberries and raspberries today :)
oh nice, did you go to a farm to pick them or were they wild?, I never really see wild strawberries or rasberries and I tried to grow my own strawberries but they didn't survive the winter :(

I picked them from a farm :3
Growing strawberries is hard from what I've heard. There used to be wild blackberries in my garden

You probably don't want wild blackberries lol, they are a right pain, if only strawberries grew as easily

Somebody near me had a bag of cooking apples out the front of their house with a "free to take" sign on them so I took a couple. Will go nice in a crumble with a few of my blackberries

Challenge 43: Feedback

So instead of a challenge this week I am inviting feedback

How do you feel we could improve this thread?

What type of challenges would you like to see in future?

Should we change anything or leave it the same format?

Any other ideas to improve or encourage participation?

I think I have always been of the mind that the challenges are there for people to just pick if they choose with no pressure on completing and people being very free in how they approach them. I am not really concerned with reaching lots of people and getting lots of involvement (it would be nice) but I am very open to improving the thread and making it accessible for everyone.

I like the huge variety and scope in the challenges. From physically/practically doing a task, to simple self care, to websites/reading/research, to discussions/verbal tasks, to media suggestions/recommendations/requests. Means if I am unsure or under confident or awkward about one week, it doesn't put me off looking again the next week to see what I might be able to try.

I wish there was a way to share & communicate better the evidence of practical tasks. I don't trust myself/technical ability with the uploading of anonymised photos, though descriptions through words are still possible I guess.

Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into this thread @carac - I might not interact all the time, but notifications remind me to check in and every week it gets me thinking about/challenging more about myself and my capabilities, even if it is not that week's challenge directly.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes I don't expect everyone to reply or post proof, I hope some people are taking up the challenges quietly or doing them later, maybe they provide inspiration for something else. It's certainly not a requirement to provide evidence, even just written but it is nice to see.

I just found it too!
Honestly makes me feel safe, I will try to do the weekly challenges good!
And maybe it would be cool some challenges that follow up past challenges? Or maybe once in a while instead of a challenge a reward type of stuff?

Hi , welcome, most of the information is on the first page. It's very casual you can pretty much do things at your own leisure

Hi, welcome. Yea I have thought about a rewards or some time of reward system, not sure how it would work though and also I kind of don't want to make it too competitive. I think little competition can be good though

Could be personal rewards like have some free time, eat some chocolate or go to the cinema, it could not be competitive but something for everyone!

I missed a few weeks but I will go back to some previous ones and try some of those challenges - namely having 3 positive thoughts for every negative one.
I need that in my life right now. Thanks.
I also need to learn how to bake.

I find baking very therapeutic. There was a time when I was really ill where I couldn't do anything and I would just lie there watching baking shows and wishing so much I could do it.

I hope thinking about positve things can help you

Ok, I tried the 3 positive thoughts for every negative thought challenge today. That's a LOT of thoughts. 🫣 I finally settled for 1 positive for a negative. Yeah, my mind was racing today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Nice one, even if you can replace a negative thought with just one positive that is a win!
Challenge 44: Draw your fear

I thought we could try another creative/drawing challenge. This week the challenge is to draw your fear. Can be whatever you want it's to you decide what that fear could be. Can be literal like spiders or abstract like fear of being alone. If you want to post your work then great but no pressure.

I think my biggest fear is claustrophobia or being trapped so I will have to try and draw something relating to that.
