Most lethal methods of suicide-how accurate is this?

This is basically a poll that was taken in LA County from 1988-1991 asking both experts and lay people about the lethality of different methods.

The people believed that a shotgun to the head has a 99% success rate. IDK if I believe that, with all the horror stories about that failing. (This was before the internet, so those horror stories were probably a lot less well known in 88-91.)

If they wanted to know what the most effective suicide methods are, they could analyze their death certificates and see what methods are most effective because, um, those people DIED, so their method was definitely lethal.
WTF does asking peoples' dumbass, unqualified opinions have to do with it???
To be fair, I am very sleepy and I can't remember what I'm responding to right now.
But this is a great example of why I hate human society so much. They are barely intelligent enough to distinguish an opinion from a fact,and even when they know the difference, they actually believe that opinions are more relevant than facts!

How, HOW does anything in our world ever function at all, when every decision is based on petty little emotional opinions, and facts don't matter?
People are so dumb that I am honestly amazed that most of them can even be potty-trained. I think most adults are wearing Pull-Ups under their clothes, they must be, because there's no way people this stupid can find their way to a toilet.

Maybe they just wanted to see what methods most people are likely to attempt, not necessarily which methods are factually lethal?
Or, maybe they wear pull-ups.

For almost every possible method you can imagine, there is someone who tried it and failed. That's why it's scary.

Yeah. I was wondering why they thought that asking for people's opinion would be super accurate. Especially when only 10 out of the 301 people asked were forensic pathologists. (Whose opinions might actually be worth something.)

You're comparing random opinion posts from the general public on an internet forum with what was purported to be a clinical analysis of medical data so.... Yeah, I guess you proved your point...?

You need to know how many didn't die in order to establish lethality rates.

I am beyond wanting to prove any points. I just get a bit agitated about misinterpretation of statistics, and I hope that my posts will encourage people to be a bit more critical.
