went snow boarding for the first time in my life
bitter sweet
i agreed to go to this trip cause it was part of my plan to say bood bye to all my friends before a ctb quietly

i love my friends
they are very supportive
i feel so ungreatul saying they are not a reason strong enough for me to stick around

maybe its my relationship with my parents
maybe i want to leave before they do

maybe im just over thinking it

****
slept in
they closed the roads after 10am so after breakfast i ran up the mountain
air is thin so walked up the second half
was really tiering, more than expected. im not altitude trained (edit and the incline didnt help either)
when the roads opened up got picked up byy friends for the last 500m or so

went to the begginers slope
fell so many times
i dont want to break my leg haha
i know how to long board but snow boarding is different
i can kinda ice skate so maybe could be a short term goal just to get not usess at

best part (its quite tiering)- taking the ski lift back up
could just rest was peace

i know my body felt hapiness
my awareness didnt, was flat/muted
i want to maybe feel something
i will talk to my doctors about it

here is the picture of the view

Do you cycle more round roads or trails or mountain biking?
Round roads. Our city is in the middle of a steppe, so there are no real forests or mountains. Which sometimes makes me sad, because I grew up surrounded by forests and lots of trees. I kinda miss it. But nonetheless, flat surfaces make it easier to move all around the city and stuff.

@NZkiwi: I'm so happy for you you went snow boarding. Must be really fun. I went skiing when I was younger and really liked it, too.

I don't think you should feel bad, if you still feel like you doubt you wanna live despite having good friends. Although supportive friends can help a lot, they are not everything you need to feel happy. And not being able to feel much sounds quite sad.

Idk if anyone will see this but can someone genuinely tell me if this ever gets better. I want to get better really but I genuinely don't know if I can keep dealing with this. I'm in so much pain every day and I'm so tired of myself and everything is so hard all of the time. It's not fair to the people around me either, i just don't understand why I have to be such an awful thing in everyone's life.

I'm literally on a trip to have fun and enjoy myself and all I can think about is how I want to go home so I can sh and feel better. I wish i was normal
Sending you air hugs and love. I'm sorry that things have been so tough for you, and I really hope that things will get better for you. You have been so brave and so strong. I can see you have a kind heart, thinking of other people, even while you're in so much pain. Thank you for sharing here

So I'll be on a short climbing trip a week from now, that makes me so happy
I'm so pleased for this for you!!

I've never done any lead climbing. Belayed leaders a few times. My 'specialty' has always been more the boots/backpack (and tent) vibe. I guess it takes less planning in some ways and once I built up more confidence in my navigation etc, can kinda 'just go'. Except these anhedonic days, I cba to work out where to go. And theres way fewer options around my area now. I don't mind waymarked trails as I can just switch to autopilot robot and just go and not have to think at all. But I've explored all the trails within easy access to me now so I'm back to meh!
went snow boarding for the first time in my life
Amazing!!! Fair play to you. Snowboarding is not easy to learn. I'm impressed you were on a chairlift on day 1! Though I'm sure your longboarding would give you much better sense of balance than I had! I lived/worked in French ski resorts for a few winter seasons after university. First season gradually learnt to ski, then second season learnt to board. Maybe the end of those was a mark of my decline. I didn't go back because I caught myself thinking 'meh its only the Alps' when friends back home would be buzzing about where I'd be living for 5 months of the year. Part of me knew it was stunning but I just couldn't genuinely appreciate it. Taking it for granted. Also bored just skiing/boarding the same routes even though I was in one of the bigger ski areas. Other opportunities then picked me up and distracted me back home for the next few winters. Until I lost confidence there too!

Is this a local ski centre to you/ can you go back to build on your newfound skills if you wanted? (As a skill/challenge maybe if the view/scenery isn't a massive plus for you atm).

what do you mean by this?
is it the familiarity, gave you comfort...
No no, it was the not being afraid of EVERYTHING all the time that game me comfort. Now I slight pain in my body and I think it's all over for me. I can't get on a plane without thinking it's for sure the end. Every time I'm in the car I'm so hyper vigilant of everyone else around me, which could be a good thing, but it's out of panic and fear more than carefulness and consideration. It's just an uncomfortable and exhausting state to live in and I'm tired of it.
I can relate to this confusion. Like wanting to die when things are ok but then when I'm ill or suffering then the 'fight' really kicks in and I dunno if its the problem solving/logic brain that wants to prove a point or get answers/understanding or what it is. Can be really quite disorientating and even harder to put into words, especially at the time
Man that does sound rough. But yeah, super disorientating. Man the brain is weird. Sometimes I struggle to comprehend that there are people out there that are just.. like… fine? And "normal" and just content with their whole lives. Crazy.
here is the picture of the view

That's cool. Even though you mentioned that your mind didn't read all that happiness thing, at least you gave it a try. You let yourself discover this new experience.
i know my body felt hapiness
my awareness didnt, was flat/muted
I can't get into your head, but it must be tiring. Like... You're supposed to feel something, and yet you can't just touch it. I feel for you, bro. But at least some part of you experienced something good. And, to think about it, it's a nice thing. Right?

***

Got myself a pair of orthopedic pads. Dunno if it will work (my feet are really messed up), but at least they'll absorb some impact during walking. Which means I can walk more. It's a win, I guess.
By the way, it's day 54 of my self-imposed torture diet. Lost about 39,6 pounds (18 kilos) since day 1.

Wow, I am quite impressed with the effect of voice therapy. I had my first 2 sessions this week (+an assessment the week before) + I did the exercices several times each day. I met a friend today and we went for a walk, had some food and spent some time in a park. And during the course of a few hours I talked quite a bit. I had pretty normal conversations, although I made sure to take breaks from talking in between. After a while it became painful, but not nearly as much as only a week ago when I chatted with a friend for a while. And this time it only took maybe 2 or 3 hours for the pain to completely subside whereas last week it was not only a lot worse, but lasted the whole next day.

why do i not extend the compassion i have towards others to my self?

was driving home fom the mountains and a van flipped out in front of us. this is on open roads. tumbling across the paddock and then a dude was ejected out from it

i was in the back seat. i told the passenger to call emergency services as i tried to re call my medical training for shit like this. i never enjoyed resus calls in hospital

as i ran towards him, he was moving
good, not dead, he didnt smash his head, the van didnt roll on him
but i wasnt sure if he d die soon

what if he has a brain bleed, unlikely hes young
what if he cut a major artery in his leg and would bleed out
what if he punctured his lung
what if he had a crush injury

thoughts running through my head

did the assessment
good hes not dying in the next few hours
im relieved
i calm down

got the bystandards to bring blankets
its cold here

asked one of the nicer lady bystanders to work with this dude to call his mum

ed nurse and first responder turn up soon

his face was smashed and he was breathing so i wasnt really to phased but the first responder and nurse wrapped him up nicely idk thats not my domain

my training is to make sure people dont die
why dont i extended that to myself
im engaging in recovery except i still think my life isnt worth living

****

i sent this to the mental health team last night, no response yet but i think theyll get bwck to me today or monday***

i think this is the late night response

i am safe
i am not dysregulated
i know to call 111 in sos

i dont think/feel there is a future worth living, and i dont think that will change in the future for hence why i want to order straps, order sn and make preperations to kill myself (along side participating in recovery)

i have not ordered anything
i think what stops me is i think if i kill myself this week my friends will be sad
but if i wait a few months or so they will be less sad

I had a rough day today. I usually have a tough time on therapy days. I had been doing ok recently but redeveloped my plan, timing, rationale for ctb. I am travelling to visit family at the end of the month - my brother is getting married - and I will have an opportunity to see a lot of family at once if I want to say goodbye. I am hoping that some time off of work, a break from people and a change of scenery may shift things around in my head. I suppose it could make things worse, but I guess we'll see :ahhha:.

It's awesome that you were able to get out and try something new! The snowy mountains set a majestic scene. Aside from the constant falling, how did you enjoy the experience? Were you able to improve by the end of the day? Do you think you will go again? When I tried snowboarding, I spent the entire day eating shit down the mountain and vowed never to return :haha:

as i tried to re call my medical training for shit like this.
It's a good thing that you were there! Where/how did you learn medical training?

@never mind me can I ask what happened with your throat/voice? It sounds like quite the recovery process to work through and a real challenge to live with.

Got myself a pair of orthopedic pads. Dunno if it will work (my feet are really messed up), but at least they'll absorb some impact during walking. Which means I can walk more. It's a win, I guess.
How have the orthopedic pads been treating you? Are they comfortable? Able to get some pain-free walking in today or still doing your cycling?

One recommendation I have is the podcast 'Suicide Noted'. Its very non judgemental and just discusses with people like us stuck in the 'do I/don't I' void. Yes some can be more recovery focussed and others more SD type chat. But it just feels comforting and familiar hearing the stories. His tagline is 'helping people feel a little less shitty and a little less alone'.
Thanks for sharing, I want to check this out. I spend some time on the road for work and am often looking for things to listen to.

I was thinking we can post songs that motivate us to work out.
I haven't worked out in a while but my favourites included:
- Bleed It Out- Linkin Park
- The Good Left Undone - Rise Against
- Indestructible - Disturbed
- Remember the Name - Fort Minor
- Can't Be Touched - Roy Jones Jr
They're a bit cringey but I can get into it :ahhha:

@ConfusedClouds is there a particulat episode you'd recomend given what's discussed on this thread for recovery? Either personally, or personlised?

Let's say I am not a health professional here but I have a massive student loan and used to work in a hospital
Currently working as a bartender, life is much more peaceful

Reassureres me wasn't just me falling. I will return again

Was supposed to go back today but then one of the boys in the group broke their leg and went to hosptial. and needs surgery .. how inconsiderate of him! (sarcasm)

And then saw the van crash in front of me
I swear my days are normally much less chaotic

100% you are trying. You've had a mad week with such HUGE steps you've made, speaking with your friends and them being so supportive and also gaining access to the mental health team you need. And them being genuine and not locking you up. Given our mental states, that relief could be enough of a headwreck in itself - things going 'well'!!! Take it easy on your self. You're doing awesome and it is so reassuring to hear that the chat in society of 'help is out there' could have glimmers of truth in the hope.
Thank you, you're very kind confused clouds

at least from my perspective, you don't sound lazy, and unmotivated might be a better fitting word

would you like some peer support resources I know of thst don't risk assess?
yes please share
That we feel like we have to lie… cuz if we tell the truth we will be cohered… I don't like this "I'm doing this for your own good" stuff. It's force people to live at all costs stuff. Quantity over quality. Sanctity of life over bodily autonomy. Ugh.
wdym we have to lie? curious what your perspective is here

Have you had to specify to them explicitly 'I want to get better and 100% fully recover' or more 'I'm stuck and confused and probably not in a good place' and they have taken the lead from there?
I haven't told them I want to get better. I told them I'm quite ambivlent, 50/50 about wanting to recovery and to kill myself

Explcitly, they have been emailed this most recently (doubling up I know)

"i dont think/feel there is a future worth living, and i dont think that will change in the future for hence why i want to order straps, order sn and make preperations to kill myself (along side participating in recovery)

i have not ordered anything
i think what stops me is i think if i kill myself this week my friends will be sad
but if i wait a few months or so they will be less sad"

***

Have they taken the lead from there?
No it's not me taking the lead
Or them being paternalistically and them taking control

I am an adult
I am also not severely dysregulated (think crazy person going off in mcdonalds)

We co-created and agreed on a management plan
right now that agreement has been

0) Write up and follow my own "Safety" plan
1) daily check ins
2) increase my lihtium dose and weekly blood test monitoring
3) weekly/as needed follow up with the public pscyhiatrist
4) I don't order any SN/rope/straps
5) but if I do order them, I let them know within a reasonable time frame (I had to push for this one, cause they didn't want me to order any fullstop, and I said I might still order I'll just communicate it)
6) in an emrgency, I call 111
Not just be triggered into panic 'lock up' mode the moment you started detailing anything other than vague passive ideation.
Explicityl I talked about the procurment/practice phase and they intervened me there
e.g. don't pick up those straps, how do we beleive you

A lot of this is hinging on them beleiving my word but that's important to me to be honest

***

Maybe its a scenario where our desensitisations actually ironically become a help towards seeking help because it has given you the awareness to 'approach with caution' and talk to them in their own language and setting your own boundaries for them. Keep going!
Thank you! That's actually a golden nugget of an insight

***
I'm about to head into work but today has already felt less lonely and a lot lighter.
hopefully you can share your stores too if you feel comfortable

***

Australian system equally helpful, or was that simply different due to the acute nature of it all
australia was helpful but my goal was to escape the psych ward not to neccisarily get better
just look better on the outside so i can return to regular life
god hospitals i sweat make us suicidal people feel more sick long term yuck

I'm British, so UPFs are not quite SO bad than across the pond, but there's definitely a notable decline in true simple healthy food options in favour of corporate processed 'perfect balanced' convenience foods.
wha'ts you recomendation for a balanced meal

oats for breakfast/baked beans/pasta

curious what your healthy diet is

harms from essentially spreading disinformation
if gues it's sharing their personal subjective experience (often disproprotialtiy negative) as the only experience you'll have on it

I actually really want to create a "how to take meds and not get locked up in a psch ward" resource post, maybe co-create it

to complement the how to do therapy resoruce, (sactually so helpful)

the first part being talking about therapeutic relationship e.g. having a good relactionship with your doctor/mental health team where oyu feel safe and can communicate and you trust them
and then maybe a meds section ? idk it's quite subjective and we ahve to be careful cause different countries, different tuens

let me know if your keen, or anyone else is keen to create this, just an idea

it hurts my heart a little bit seeing some of the vulnerable posts on the recovery about meds on here and disinformation that spreads
I'm trying to balance not being too autheorititive i am just some dude and this is the internet
but it does hurt seeing disinoformation here :/

Having a plan is great. But... does calling the emergency in NZ actually work? Are they fast? Do you have any experience with them?
It kinda made me remember something. My colleague has a sister, and one time she asked for my help in the middle of the night. That sister had a husband (a total scumbag and a huge problem in my opinion), and the dude made an attempt. Chugged some bleach. Not enough to actually catch the bus. It took the emergency about half an hour to actually appear.

yes, well its simialr to australia

i mean the last time for me was when I had psychosis (first time, never agian, Im sticking on meds), I thought my flatmates were govermment spies trying to kill me, I was on a TV show, this was all a game

sigh

I had a person in my life that tried to kiill themselves in public many years ago
i don't know the specific details

this is back when I was 20ish, early uni

they filled their bag with rocks
tied themselves to the bag
went to the water front
sat down

police were called
they weren't admitted to the psych ward, but could live at home with the flatmates and did therapy in the community

so yeah emergecny services here are good
we also have a crisis line dedicated for mental health stuff as well

Well, Russia has pretty high rates.
And Kazakhstan... it's not that developed to consider suicide rates to be a problem.

Well, Russia has pretty high rates.
I'm gonna say some disturbing stuff in this thread, so please don't feel like you have to respond

Can you help me unpack the following thought, in a recovery focused way

"I'm not suprised that russia has high rates of suicide"

The "pro suicide" perspective is given the circumstances are tough (ie war, cold, inequality, corrupt goverment) I'm not surprised people want to kill them selves at higher rates

And then the thought pattern that follow is
If my life is tough, it would be palliative/caring to take my own life if rest of circumstances are tough

I can't think of the positive/comforting side of this (not the high rates of suicide),
If the reasons to kill yourself are the circumstances that sorounds you
What would the equal/oposite strength reasons to stay alive despire circumstances being tough be?

Well... It may sound cynical, but it pretty much covers it, yes. Living in the CIS is not so good. Quite depressing, actually. I don't know how to describe it better, but that's the way the life is.
What would the equal/oposite strength reasons to stay alive despire circumstances being tough be?
I... I don't know. The thing is - the society itself is kinda numb to all that stuff. That's one of the reasons why being open and sharing your feelings is seemed as being broken and stuff. You just "man up" and cope. You don't need a therapist. If you need one - you're weak and broken. And mentally ill. "Normal" people don't need it. And things like "depression" don't exist. You're just weak.

Unfortunately, in my eyes this whole situation is rather opposite to the idea of "recovery", because the society itself doesn't consider these disturbing rates as a problem. It is ignored by the government and by the people, and if anything - they put the blame on anything else. Mostly on the internet. So, if you ignore the problem, there's nothing to fix.

So, in a nutshell - you either cope and survive, or you don't. Not the best strategy, but it is what it is.

Some people find salvation in heavy drinking. Quite a lot of them. Even though younger generations are generally more sober than us. Not to mention previous generations. But they abuse substances quite a lot.

Some people look for some purpose. Love, family, fame, money etc. Just like anywhere else.

By the way, it's day 54 of my self-imposed torture diet. Lost about 39,6 pounds (18 kilos) since day 1.
Woah, thats big numbers. Do you have a 'target'/plan in mind or just keep pushing it and see where you end up?
is there a particulat episode you'd recomend given what's discussed on this thread for recovery? Either personally, or personlised?
Sadly not - it'd be very individual. The guy who hosts it lost a friend to suicide and is in and out of ideation himself. But each episode is a chat with someone who has survived and attempt or ideates. There were a few episodes earlier this year which were random podcasters clearly trying to market their own pod/book, so they weren't so good. I felt for the host who you could tell was trying to remain neutral but was getting miffed by some of their chat, a couple of them started getting a bit preachy. Anywho, it massively depends on your individual story and what feels relevant to you and resonates. For example, I personally don't have a history of abuse, so I can find stories involving that harder to relate to. Maybe look at some random 2024/2025 episodes and if you find one isn't great then try a couple of others. Each one is totally individual so its hard to recommend any specifically if you get what I mean. It can be quite heavy listening at times too, but I defo fit the 'little less shitty, little less alone' aim!

Reassureres me wasn't just me falling. I will return again
Oh when I learnt to both ski and board I was an adult and was faceplanting all over the place. Its a bit easier to stay vertical on skis as a beginner (two planks to balance on whereas with a board if you catch an edge there's no saving it!). But once you've got some basics down on a board (falling leaf/just edge sliding) then you can kinda head to most levels of slopes and get down them, whereas you can't use beginner ski technique on steeper slopes - you have to be able to turn which is the second wave of faceplanting everywhere
wha'ts you recomendation for a balanced meal

oats for breakfast/baked beans/pasta

curious what your healthy diet is
See I'm overly conscious of this. I still don't comprehend whats 'healthy' or 'too much' or 'too little' with my activity levels. I dabbled in calorie counting and monitoring a few years ago but it became too controlling and didn't balance out for me.

So now my focus is on protein content. Its kinda hard to get protein levels without having associated carbs or fats etc. unless you're just eating pots of cottage cheese with a spoon or steaks with no accompaniments.

Overnight oats is a big one for me - throw a load of random ingredients in a pot (oats, nuts, seeds, frozen fruit, milk, yoghurt, nut butter, fresh fruit, protein powder...) the night before and its good to go the next day - the seeds (especially chia) all soften up and its zero thinking required. There are loads of recipes online, but I have moved to just chucking in what I have or fancy and not measuring it (I use a protein powder scoop for my oats otherwise my portion control is wild). But I try to avoid 'fake'/processed protein. As in, powders or bars unless I'm maybe out and and about and for some reason have no way to have protein in my meals. Its ridiculous the marketing on protein stuff. My supermarket has a 'protein' labelled cottage cheese which is way more expensive but virtually identical to regular cottage cheese.

The most important thing with healthy diet is making it something you'll actually enjoy/eat. All well and good forcing porridge each morning if you hate it so never eat it or it starts you off grumpy which then essentially sabotages the rest of the day and any other food/meals. Textbook options sometimes aren't the magic answer people make them sound.
and if anything - they put the blame on anything else
I hate this SO much with society. Lack of accountability for anyone with any level or responsibility. Even worse with all the high turnover of senior management or politicians. The posh school boy excuse of 'the older boy did it and ran away' just pops up far too much and yet those of us at the bottom of the food chain get bollocked for the tiniest misdemeanour (not even misconduct)

I feel that pain when I stuff myself with cottage cheese, chicken breasts or tuna...

Shame (less processed) protein is so mad expensive and getting worse. Urgh. I love cottage cheese on oatcakes (a scottish type of cracker biscuit) as a more 'balanced' meal. Then batch roast tons of veg that I can then microwave over coming days to keep fibre mixed in but trying to keep it low effort.
I could not imagine having a family. Theres something satisfying about batch cooking 8-10 portions of something that will load the freezer and last ages, I could not imagine that disappearing in a day or two with having to feed a family. I'm too selfish/lazy!

I would like to be better about my diet. I try to control what I eat by what I buy. I'm really at good at not buying things or putting things back on the shelf upon further reflection while in the store (especially with the cost of food). Once it is in the house, I don't think twice about eating it. My partner sometimes brings unhealthy food to the house.

Its kinda hard to get protein levels without having associated carbs or fats etc. unless you're just eating pots of cottage cheese with a spoon or steaks with no accompaniments.
I really like eggs, tofu and cottage cheese with fruit, and try to include them in my eating for this exact reason. I generally find it difficult to find calorie-dense foods that aren't bad for you. I heard about Mac from IASIP drinking tubs of melted ice cream to gain weight but all of the additional saturated fat and sugar seems terrible for one's health.

Overnight oats is a big one for me -
Me too. I like to do oats, whole milk, chia seeds, frozen wild blueberries, bit of brown sugar and maple syrup. Sometimes I'll add a bit of store bought granola on top. It travels really well so I can grab it from the fridge in the morning and bring it to work without much thought.
Fruit, yogurt and protein smoothies are a bit one for me too. Banana, strawberry, pineapple, kiwi, orange juice, greek yogurt. I can make about 4 at a time and keep them in the fridge.

@ConfusedClouds Try Skyr, if it is available where you live. Best proteins to calories ratio of all vegetarian food I've found so far (even better than some of the protein powders I think), yummy and cheap.

: It started with a cold a few months ago during which I lost my voice (probably acute laryngitis, I had already had this once a couple years back). Shortly after recovering I drank alcohol, which caused the pain in my throat to come back and then my voice got progressively worse after speaking for any length of time, till I could barely speak at all. After visiting a number of different doctors I got eventually diagnosed with silent reflux that irritates the vocal cords and muscle tension dysphonia. Apparently both is caused by excessive muscle tension.

@NZkiwi: A synonym would be vocal therapy, i.e. I do breathing exercices and exercices for speaking in order to relearn how to speak without overly tensing up, as the tensing up apparently causes the pain I often have while speaking. But it also includes exercices you would more expect in physiotherapy for loosening up the shoulders and the like, because I am super tense in many parts of my body which also contributes to my problems with speaking.

I went to the beach with my boy-friend yesterday. It was ok I guess, but it felt really weird. I feel like I don't love him any more, like I kind of fell out of love. I don't know, if love can come back or if that will be the end of our relationsship. I probably shouldn't be surprised, because during the last weeks I felt so let down by my boy-friend because of his lack of support while I was really sick and felt horrible. And I was so disappointed to realize that his priority is only taking amphetamines and drinking alcohol and not me, so I concluded that the best thing I can do to protect myself from further hurt is to also not make him a priority in my life. To see him like one of many friends with whom I can spend time and nothing more. And although so far I couldn't get myself to end the relationship (party because I wanted to prioritize getting better first, partly because I dread the talk about ending it and wish to have at least enough of my voice back to be able to say what I want to say without too much trouble, but also because it is so sad to give up a relationsship of +15 years that for the most part I was quite happy with) it seems like my feelings have already decided for me. At this point I don't know, if it would even change anything, if my boy-friend put in more effort, if he stopped drinking and taking amphetamines 24/7. Because I feel like I don't want to be hurt again. I don't want to get my hopes up again, just to experience the same lack of empathy and ignorance I experienced the last few months.

My body seems to get used again to cope without PPIs. The reflux is still bothering me sometimes, especially at night, but it is not as bad as it was the first 1 or 2 days without PPIs. My voice felt a bit worse yesterday compared to the day before, not sure, if speaking more caused it to get worse again or if it is normal to fluctuate a bit during the recovery process.
