Trigger warning: the pictures in the paper are quite graphic and may be very upsetting.

https://scihubtw.tw/https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jflm.2020.101989 (this is a link to the full paper on sci-hub so that anyone can download it)

Here is the original paper if you want to buy it: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1752928X20300962

It seems the man whom the case study revolves around followed the protocol. He had meto, ranitidine and SN.

The authors of the paper seem to be under the impression that the guy literally bought a 'suicide kit':

"Fig. 1."Suicide kit" ordered by the internet found at the death scene next to the victim."

"This case also reveals the danger and the importance of preventing and fighting existing suicide support networks over the internet, which allow the purchase of a "suicide kit", by circumvent the customs services."

It seems like the guy just put all of his pieces in one box to me. As far as I'm aware, there is no person or person(s) selling kits with SN+other things. There's no such thing as a purchasable 'suicide kit' in any form I think.

Anyway. This is a seemingly undeniable death by SN protocol. Whether it was peaceful or not is another question. There was no mention of vomit at the scene.

There are no suicide kits but I guess there are megathreads on here with advice how to put one together.

I can't bring myself to click on the link. I don't think I can look at the pictures.

I wish they would spend more time and effort fighting the fire instead of preventing functional fire alarms from triggering.

At least they didn't show that poor guys face in the photo. Imagine how that looked! Couldn't they at least have put a towel over his butt?

Ah sorry, I didn't realise there had already been mention of it!
A search of the topic before posting may be helpful! There's a ton of good stuff here.
and yes, that picture is disturbing and
Glad you brought that up. Now I get to visualize exactly what someone will find and it is super unpleasant

This is why I have printed a document that says "Do not come in. I have committed suicide. I will not be a pleasant sight. I am definitely gone so spare yourself and let the medical team/garda deal with my body." (garda are our cops/police)

It looks horrible. Didn't expect to see something like this. Before seeing it I was sure about using SN, but know I have some doubts

I'm not opening the pic, afraid that it will be too disturbing after reading the comments. Are you trying to point out that the person might have suffered based on the picture?

I think they're pointing out that the body doesn't look pretty and it might hurt those who will discover the body of someone who suicided with SN, because the body might have the same outward symptoms. (Cyanosis, I think? I can't access the link.) That those who discover the body might suffer.

I've been pointed out that the "blue body" might have other underlying causes.
That person was dead for days before being found, the discolouration is from blood pooling in the body since it's not being pumped anymore.

That colouring is NOT from SN. It even says that in the paper.
I can't be bothered doing the research to verify your words, but what I can say with certainty is that I don't know why the body became blue, so ignore my post above where I say with certainty why the body became blue.

If you read the abstract it says:
The results of the autopsy showed general signs of asphyxia, such as intense cyanosis of the extremities, brown-gray-blue-red livor mortis

The "blueness" that SN causes is cyanosis, which in this case happened to the extremities, as you can see in the picture, his fingernails are completely blue.

The discolouration of the rest of the body is liver mortis, which is the last stage of death.

On Livor Mortis:
Livor mortis (also called hypostasis) is the pooling of the blood in the body due to gravity and the lack of blood circulation as a result of the cessation of cardiac activity (Knight, 2002). These factors cause the blood to pool in the lowest points of the body, giving the skin a purplish-red discoloration.

The discolouration of the rest of the body is because of that, and the grey-yellow patches are either areas that were under pressure so the blood was forced away from them, or high points in the body.

SN does not cause your body to turn blue. This isn't true, the discolouration in the photos of that study happen in every body once it has been dead for several days.

I'm not spooked by the pictures. I wouldn't expect him to look very well anyway. But once his eyes are closed and a sheet laid over his body, I'm sure he'd look just like any other dead body.

I regret looking at the pictures because I'm so sensitive to these types of disturbing images. Nonetheless, it's informative for someone looking to use SN. Thank you for sharing
