Anyone speaking in absolutes on this matter is just projecting their own belief systems. There is no way to know what happens after death.

I think, yes. Because we are looking for peace sometimes, not death. Death and peace I suppose coexist.
Yes I agree! We were not even conscious of life or a planet or a solar system, universe......nothing Before we were born.So it could be the same when we are gone. The darkness, the void. That's what I call it. I think no consciousness = peace. Personal peace.

My experiences with death are very different. Once I felt like I was wrapped in cotton wool, while partial hanging. It was warm, soft and I was about to lose consciousness.

I think the issue is that 'clinical' death is simply not dead enough to argue whether or not there is something after we live. So the nay-sayers of an Afterlife could argue that it's the brain reacting that is creating the near death experience (nde).

More compelling evidence would be if, for example, someone died and was cremated, and came back as some other form that we could communicate with that was indisputable to scientific method.

My theory (and it makes sense if you think about it) is that, once you're dead, you can't experience time. Since you have no consciousness capable of experiencing time, googolplexes and googolplexes of years go by in the blink of an eye. Therefore, something has to happen. If it's not reincarnation, then it has to be your life reset somehow (maybe in some alternate universe?)

People say there is nothing after death. But if there is nothing after death, then how were we born here as humans in the first place, when there was no Earth, no Milkyway solar system; nothing?

Millions of years of evolution from single celled organisms...

... Whereupon, Spielberg would then yell, "Cut...!" :blarg:

I sincerely hope so.

I don't want to come back.
I certainly don't want to reincarnate.
I don't feel the need to transcend.

I just want to cease to be.

In the book "On a Pale Horse" the main character takes on the role of the Grim Reaper. One soul he has to collect requests that he not be sent to the afterlife and rather would just have his soul obliterated. The Grim Reaper obliged him. Oblivion feels like it would be the most peaceful option.

We were born in the darkness, we will die in the darkness. Everything was created from the chaos and will end in chaos. So yes, it is a kind of peace.

Yes. For sure.
even though I have a spiritual path that I follow. I still don't know for sure that I will go to the place I should go to according to my spiritual beliefs.

I think if there were not any beliefs about afterlife, people would value life more. Thousands of years that was merely a speculation. Warriors believed that it is not that bad to die because there is an afterlife ahead. It is so easy to rule the people in this case. Though we can't say for sure if afterlife exists.

True true! I'm Pagan because I resonate with paganism on a personal level. My branch of Paganism believes that after one dies, one has a choice. To protect the land (land weights) means land protector spirit, or go to the spirit world. But what if it is just darkness? I guess we won't know, until we get there. I want to protect the land after I die. Or join my grandad in the spirit world! He was my hero!

I used to be pagan for a little while. The most interesting thing about this is that there was not any heaven and hell and was no eternal torturing. In gods' afterlife world there were 7 levels. And gods lived on fourth (that is extremely interesting why they were not on top). Unfortunately, when Christianity came to these lands, pagans had an option: to convert or to die. Many decided to die.

Yes! A lot of pagans refused and went underground! The holidays that we have now....Easter ,Christmas etc....they are all based on pagan gods...e.g. Oestre=easter, yule=Christmas. Our days of the week too Thursday=Thor, Wednesday= Wotan, Saturday= Saternalia. Friday = Friggs/ Freya. That's also how they got pagans to convert. By meshing their gods with the Christian ideal. Even the saints are all old Pagan gods. I'm Pagan for life. Took an oath imma stick it out til the end! (A line from Rihannas song " Umbrella ") I would rather die than be forced to convert! I would rather die on my feet, than live on my knees.

Personal peace? I'd assume so.

I don't believe in any afterlife. The lights go out and you stop existing.

Peace for friends and family? That's an entirely different topic.
