I genuinely do not understand why assisted death, in ordinary cases, isn't just an extension of autonomy? Why does one have to prove they're suffering just to die?

It's genuinely so absurd! Society does not value life in the way it preaches otherwise "collateral damage" would not be a thing! Simultaneously it also doesn't care about suffering or trying to prevent suffering cause the meat/dairy industry is thriving and we have literal war criminals and child molesters creating heaven on earth for themselves. While we just have to live… for WHAT EXACTLY? Living is not mandatory nor a moral duty.

I don't understand what's so crazy about not wanting to live? Why are we surprised that someone who has a terrible life… DOESN'T WANT TO LIVE IT??!!?!! I don't understand why they can't just leave if they want to? They obviously cannot change their mind nor regret it when they're dead… so WTF IS UP??? In the west especially we also do not tend to care about potential life as abortion is a thing. The whole thing of abortion is that one shouldn't have to use their body to sustain another (which I agree with) but what if i don't want to sustain my own body? Then i shouldn't have to right? How does that NOT follow out of that? Literally isn't that fucking TRIVIAL?

I am venting but I'm curious as to what other people have to add to this as i genuinely don't understand!

I don't know. I also think that it should be legal. I understand that of course there would have to be safeguards in place to protect vulnerable people from being pressured into making the decision by their family etc, but I think that risk could be managed.

Because humans are shitty stupid creatures. We are homosapiens, what could be expected from such race? We aren't some magical, divine creatures, but just stupid animals instead. I don't understand either, what I understand is just that this pathetic species is quite shitty.

While governments all over the world make it hard for citizens to just live they also don't want us to get hurt. I guess for statistics and bragging rights. "My country is better than yours." or something like that. I mean not only assisted death is illegal in most places but also driving without wearing a seatbelt. Who do you endanger if you are not wearing one? Yourself and? Nobody else. I am also just venting because i don't get it either, except the bragging rights thing.

Yeah that's true! I actually never considered that this could be a way to potentially kill people by forcing them to go through with it! Damn thank you for saying that

Yeah its an interesting aspect to think about! I could see why someone might feel pressured to make a decision to go ahead with it if they felt like they were a burden to their family or to society more generally. But, like I said, this is something that I think could be safeguarded against

really need public suicide booths on every corner.. you get to select your method from the touch-screen.. there would be some good options for masochistic people too like being flamethrowered to death.. also an option for if you want the outside windows to be opaque or clear to let the public view your death if you want to let them..

Suffering animals are granted a dignified death - humans grant other humans a horrible life even id there is no chance for them to have a good life ever again. That's human logic.

Not only incurable illness can cause an undignified life. In the environment most humans have to live there are uncountable other factors that make life undignified.

This is fact that has to be acknowledged.

I understand, it truly is the most horrific prison world where humans have made it inaccessible to die painlessly with the suffering and torture of existing seen as to force and prolong no matter what, it's criminal to me how humans are forced to suffer in this terrible, torturous existence where there is no limit as to how much agony one can feel.

I always suffer so much from how I cannot just cease existing peacefully as I'd never wish to exist, I'll always find it so deeply undesirable to exist, all that this existence does is just cause suffering all for the sake of it and I find it so horrible how the torture of existing can continue for decades longer just for one to face the extreme agony of old age, nothing would make me wish for that rather I just want peace, the peace of non-existence is all I see as positive.

to play devils advocate, if you want to kill yourself, it means you are not thinking clearly. you cant make literal life or death decisions rationally when you are not thinking clearly.

i dont agree with the above, but unfortuantely, thats how authorities view it and thus decide that suicide shouldnt be easily accessible to anyone, no matter their ailment.

in my case, im, thank god for that at least, physically healthy. but emotionally, ive always been ill. ive always wanted to die. ive always felt that i dont matter to anyone. i never got invited anywhere, my phone never rings. i would occasionally try to be "sociable", but it just didnt work for me. now you can pump me full of drugs and perhaps i will forget (?) that no one gives a shit, but whats the point? the world is a cruel place and i dont want to fight anymore, just set me free...

A lot of politicians are staunch Catholics and also rely on mass slave labour to pay part of their income.

We live in a "quantity over quality" society. It's why forced-birthers (pro-lifers) will fight for the right to life for a fetus but not for anything to support a person from birth to death. They want mindless workers they can abuse and don't want to give us any way out.

Our society was never built to reduce suffering. If it was less people would want assisted suicide. We'd have probably gotten the help we needed early on and not been in the positions we're in today.

In short I believe it's simply control.

Pro-life people will not agree with anyone killing themselves. There are endless reasons. Truth is, not everyone can be saved. Some people have success, some don't. Pro-life doesn't support this.

From a government standpoint, it supports the same standards.

From an economic standpoint, you represent potential profits. If people are suddenly free to die, then who's going to support psychologist/therapists? And think of the poor pharmaceuticals and their investors.

I say this in jest.. Kinda..

Like you, I believe it should be a choice. There should be safeguards though to protect anyone being manipulated.

With the future the youngest generation is looking forward to, certainly gives no good vibes.

And those who are older/getting older having to face crumbling health care systems.

Also anyone in between who might want support or just simply be able to afford existing.

With what we live in, I honestly can't blame anyone wanting to check out early. There's just too many reasons.

I just don't think this particular choice will ever be accepted widely. I'm Canadian, while we've made progress in our laws, you still essentially have to be dying to get MAID. There's language to support MAID for non-terminal patients, but good luck with that.

In the countries that will grant your wish, not many will take non-citizens. Then there's the price tag.

I think I'd have better odds asking Space Karen for a rocketship.
