DeBreather purchase, too good to be true?

This device is supposed to seal to your face not allowing any outside air in. So not sure how the CO method would add to this? If there's a leak maybe ? Or it falls off, but the CO might not work either?

I was wondering if the Carbon Monoxide would leak through any gaps and help finish the job? Haven't really thought it through was just wondering about a failsafe in case of leaks.

Can I just ask, is mask leakage the only current concern?

The major concern now is, do these work at all? A user already tried without success. And extra secured the mask with tape.

I wouldn't make it alarming. I would just say I've heard a report that one recipient attempted to use their device over the weekend, they duct taped any hose connections and duct taped the mask to their face and did not feel a thing and wore it for 30 minutes. They noted the granules turned purplish but has no other remarks.

@Living sucks and @Imroch, I'd like to share my thoughts about posting about this on the EI forum. If it's already been done, no big deal, these are just my thoughts.

Folks here have asked for photos and additional information, and asked if s/he was going to report this to Richard, and @DownToGo never responded. That's his or her right, but without more information, we have nothing to go on but a few brief posts and then nothing.

As I recently mentioned on this thread, we're going to be hit from all sides about this product, and if the product not working for one person who won't respond to reasonable requests or even acknowledge them, then it's taking the unproven drama over to another forum. IF this is a pro-life tactic, taking it over to EI is doing the pro-lifers' work for them. If @DownToGo was freaking out to the point that s/he couldn't respond to reasonable requests, it's still taking an as-yet unsubstantiated freak-out over to EI.

Personally, I think it's best to be patient and wait for other members here to try the product and report back if there are problems, or try it and have their names crossed out.

If it works how could they self-ban? I don't know the db doesn't work and C may be selective or straight up scamming. Oh there's this cold going around and if you are "lucky" to die enough from it; you are drowning for days. Wish I wasn't such a p and drank my N when I had it.

It seems that there had to be a leak in the system somewhere. Otherwise you could not have it on for 30 minutes without running out of oxygen.

Well, that's also concerning if one of the first reports had a leak in the systems. It just doesnt give me a good "vibe" about this whole thing.

The instructions do describe how to check for leaks. I think it is wise to take a lot of time making sure the mask is leak free. And this is possible per the instructions. It's also important to check the other connections just to make sure nothing has come loose. The instructions on the rtd website are very detailed, if one carefully reads and follows them, I think this method could work very well. It cannot be done in a rush.
But you have to be comfortable. If not, it's best not to use this method I think.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a mask with a filter for small particles / dust, place the soda lime in a plastic bag (eventually in small filter bags) and wrap the plastic bag around the head? Same concept, only 1 bag with possible leaks.

This is a new device and i would keep with an open mind of its effectiveness, we have only had one documented attempt of usage on here, lets be honest this person could either be a genuine person who had a totally faulty device and method sold to him , did not have the set up of the device correct before usage or even a pro lifer trying to stop people looking at this as an option

It is just a re-use of the re-breather used for other applications (and I believe that units used in anesthesia are more expensive); those re-breathers were designed with another target in mind: extremely comfortable design, portability or minimum coverage of the face of the user.
In a production line, ensuring quality at low price and setting up a fault-free production are a big problem, if the complexity of the device is larger.
And over-design is seen everywhere in engineering.
I don't argue that this design has a good comfort, but it has an user-dependent failure.
The extreme opposite would be sealing your head in a bag full of soda lime granules: uncomfortable, but extremely reliable, as long as CO2 buildup is kept low.
The right choice is in the middle. The idea of the soda lime is great.

Anyway: it should be reported to the producers. If they care about their business, they would try not to lose credibility.

The first bach was 100 Rebreathers and it was sold out in a few days. Nobody is returning to inform of success. Most people want to CTB priavately. It's what I think.

This is very personal to some ... i would rather be found with a device touted to be peaceful on my body than a plastic bag that looked like I did it impulsively, for my families sake.
