hi sonny i'm an old person (44 years old).. why are people saying FP (favorite person) these days?.. that just sounds weird to me.. back in my day we just called them best friend.. why are we calling them a person now and not a friend any more?.. even "favorite friend" would sound better than "favorite person".. it's just weird and i don't understand it.. might as well call them favorite human individual.. is there a different nuance between favorite person and best friend or what?..

Its a term that originated in online BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) communities. If you haven't seen this term used with frequency until now, it is because you are on sasu, and there are a disproportionate number of individuals with BPD here. It is used not just to describe their favorite person, but the person who becomes the center of a their emotional world - who is capable of emotionally regulating that person. This person can often become solely responsible for the borderline's sense of self worth. It is the most intense emotional bond someone with BPD experiences to someone in their life, and similar attachment patterns occur with other personality disorders, those with complex trauma, and really anyone with an anxious attachment style.

I'd say a "person" describes a larger group of people than "friends", so when you say they're your favorite person it's like they're the best in the whole world, instead of just within your small circle of friends! :D

My favorite person will always be myself. I'm not a narcissist but I'm the only person I can trust. I never let myself down.

What do you mean "these days"? I saw the phrase "favorite person" said back around 2008-2010 during MySpace

Agree with it not being so new, I feel like I started seeing it a while ago, but it's not like it's used everywhere.
