• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

Wow, you watched so many Anime since last year, thats awesome. I am more like when I am in mood for it, so frankly speaking you have probably seen more Anime than I did, but my personal favorite is probably Naruto, I know its cliché to say that but it was my first Anime I get into (not counting pokemon) and it taught me good life lessons, music is also beautiful and story is great, apart of that I do really like One punch man because its hilarious, ofc Death Note or Attack on Titan, but you have probably seen this more popular ones, so its nothing new. Yes its Inori from Memories Off, thanks ! :) I should probably watch more anime its so refreshing to see it, sometimes It helps me to escape from reality.
Don't be hard on yourself for your taste. What matters isn't how "unique" any work from any medium is, but how happy it makes you, and how close you hold it to your heart. I haven't seen Naruto since it's pretty long, but I do have it downloaded. Would you believe it when I say I still haven't seen One Punch Man or Attack on Titan? Eventually I will. Death Note is a fantastic anime imo. I just loved the directing, all those crazy camera zooms, how over-the-top and in-your-face it was. The sheer over-the-topness of it all made me grin tbh. The director Tetsurou Araki (I know he also directed AOT) said his philosophy behind making shows is that he wants to make something that his 14 year old self would instantly pick up off the shelves. People often approach anime like Death Note and AOT very cynically since they've got such popular appeal, and I think that's undeserved. Death Note has so much heart and is so much fun. And this comes from someone who isn't really a fan of Marvel movies or the blockbusters we've got over here.

About the last thing you said -- I feel like just any hobby, including anime, is much better than doomscrolling or getting too caught up in the doom-and-gloom of now. There will always be good and bad times. People can be so obsessed with "living in reality," and knowing everything about reality, that we've become addicted to bad news, and it's hurt us. An escape, in moderation, can be good and bring passion to your life. I love talking about anime with people on here, so I'd always be interested in listening if you're ever up for it :D

Love the eeriness and the shadows. I still need to watch that one, but I love everything that I've seen so far from Chiaki J. Konaka. I would probably love Texhnolyze, too. It just seems right up my alley, very atmospheric, brutal, depressing, and light on the dialogue (though I love series with abundant dialogue if said dialogue is good.)

Look at those great colors, the strong unbreakable gaze, the judgement of the bird, the contrast between the blurred background and the sharp bird. The orange things looking like gold. The silver stone looking like magical metal that will make the foundation of a new empire.

I'M HERE I'M STRONG I CAN FUCKING DO IT!!!!

BIRDS ARE COOL AND CAN LITERALLY BLAZIKEN KICK YOU AND DROP SHIT ON YOUR HEADS WHILE IT FLIES FAR FROM YOUR REACH WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO HUH?!

True, wise words, sometimes I do feel like I would like to watch some anime but then when I am trying to pick one it gets so overwhelming because there is so much of it (which is good) and I can't decide, anime is very popular right now so yeah a lot of different genres and types. Personally I really like 80/90s art style or cyberpunk/retrofuture. I am in love with that style I can just listen to music and enjoy pictures of it and it tells story or mood and I do like that a lot.

I do believe you that, you probably found your own style that you like, so dont force yourself just because its popular or hyped.

Death note is great, music, investigation, inner talks, manipulation, characters, animation, funny angles, that reminds me angry Mello in orphanage at Near... all works perfectly, (spoilers ahead - for potential reader who have not seen DN yet) I do like first half more but I dont mind Near/Mello arc too, people usually talks badly about second part. I do also like second part and personally I think Mello is underated, without him Near would have fall for Kira trap, Mello knew he has to sacrifice himself to push Kira in action which led to Mikami mistake and I respect that. In the end I think Mello was smarter than Near because Near would never sacrifice himself, Near has high self confidence and ego which are his flaws, I always wanted to know how both of them found info about death note, because Watari deleted all the data when L and He died. All the people who knew about DN existence was Kira investigation unit, so thats something I would like to see in show.

Naruto is indeed very long so I understand that, I heard that One Piece is great anime but I refuse to watch it because how extremely long it is. The older I am the more I appreciate short anime. If I have not seen Naruto I think would not watch it today, but I might be wrong.

I like your view on things, well said, sadly my life is at the point that escape and daydreaming is all I have left, its the only thing that is keeping me in this reality, which sounds funny. I am sane in this reality because I can escape to other realities. This is truly unique age we live in. Thanks for talk, its good to talk about not so serious stuff, I am for sure up for it :D

My advice to OPM is , start watching it if you really want something funny and not so serious to watch. AoT is exact opposite. Both of them are Peak though.

Maybe self explanatory since the show is very popular.

I enjoy life whenever I can find a single bit of purpose, but once it's finished or close to it I'm back to wanting to stop existing.

Like meeseeks, I wasn't supposed to exist this long.

aesop carl from identity v. it's a piece of official art made for his birthday, my banner is from the same drawing.

identity v is one of my favorite games of all time, and i felt like he was an appropriate pick for my profile theme. i've seen someone else around the forum who also has an aesop profile picture, so i guess there's more of us around than i thought!

here's the full, unedited drawing. i think it's really beautiful. i made it smaller so it wouldn't take up anyones screen, but i think you can view the full size if you right click to open the image in a new tab.

First of all, I don't blame you at all for not "getting it" watching Bakemonogatari. I honestly didn't like it the first time I saw it, dropped it, gave it another chance after having seen more shows, and ended up loving it to bits. It's a very Japanese, very dialogue-heavy anime that relies on your ability to read and process fast subtitles, along with a lot of insider knowledge on tropes, otaku culture and things like that. It's a series which can be made or broken by a million different factors, including, well, just whether or not you'd even be in the mood to see an episode or two. It's got a pretty high bar of entry, and it's just not an easy anime to recommend to people overall.

A lot of it relies on the quality of the subtitles you're using, too -- its community regards the show's official subtitles as being pretty awful, and most people opt for fansubs for the best possible experience. This may sound counterintuitive, but official subs are often rushed, misconstrue important sentence structure, and try to "localize" words that don't really have adequate English equivalents -- if you've ever seen that Pokémon dub clip where Brock calls onigiri "jelly donuts," this is a pretty infamous example of what I'm talking about. It happens with bad subtitles, too. Fansub groups tend to care a lot more about creating the most respectful and accurate translations that they can. This is very important to get right when it comes to a series like Monogatari, which dabbles in wordplay and the like.

I love Monogatari for... a lot of things. Its maximalist and idiosyncratic approach to storytelling, all of its thought-provoking dialogue and imagery, its boldness and the way it carries itself, its complicated and multifaceted characters. What I don't like about some anime is that the girls are written to be as unintimidating and inoffensive as possible, to bend over backwards for the protagonist. Monogatari doesn't really have that, at least from what I've seen (I'm not done with the entire series since it's long.) Some characters are nicer than others, but every girl has some amount of "bite" and just overall humanity to them. I love it for challenging me and holding up a mirror to the contents of my mind, and how a lot of it matches the images in my head. I love its novelistic and intricate conversations. I love how "specifically" it thinks and operates -- it's packed with insight and the characters have so much to say and think about in comparison to most other anime. It also deeply inspires me artistically.

Senjougahara is my favorite because I felt understood by her entire conflict. Her conflict isn't all too hard to interpret, despite the show's intimidating presentation -- a girl isolates herself from all her friends after being traumatized by a sexual assault that her own mother let happen, loses an inhuman amount of weight to "unburden herself from the weight of her problems" (allegory for an eating disorder), and becomes aggressive and standoffish when it comes to an unassuming person who just wants to help her. All of that, and she acts unusually cold towards the people she loves, and doesn't really seem to know how to normally express love and appreciation for others -- you see it a lot in her interactions with Araragi. That really struck a chord with me. Not only that, but she's just really fun to watch and I love her banter. Again, I understand why you may not like the series, and that's totally fine. I really did light up seeing a Senjougahara profile pic on a different post you made, though!

My profile pic is a screenshot from an Avenged Sevenfold music video for a song called "Nobody". I chose it because I see all the horrors of the world the same way as the skeleton in the video does, and also because most of the beauty we see in the world is fake, it's a mask to hide how cruel nature and humans really are. The bar code on the flower represents how manufactured most things in our world are.

Always nice to see other Vocaloid fans on here since I've been listening to it ever since I was maybe 5 -- I'm sorry you even are here, though. That's the Vocaloid shoegaze album thingy, right? I don't think I've listened to that all the way through, but I just know it's a compilation that a lot of people love and respect, even people who aren't too keen on Vocaloid in general. Maybe I'll try and give it a listen tonight. Have you ever seen the Vocaloid MV for the song Tower of Sunz? It has this really mystical, cryptic setting and a very stoic, somewhat brooding interpretation of Miku. The music itself is also pretty downtempo-y and minimalist. It's a song about a cycle of hating the person you used to be, and aiming towards the future, but always maintaining this unfortunate "spiral of resentment" towards yourself. That song and MV resonated with me a lot and always stuck with me. It's a very old song, but perhaps you'd appreciate it. When you described yourself as quiet and unconcerned, that's one of the first things which sprung to mind.

Wow ok I had no clue that it ran that deep! My experience with monogatari genuinely only goes as far as my bestie and I were stoned and put something on while we sank into the couch hahaha. I'd love to give it another watch if you could show me where to get some good fansubs? I had no idea that it was the kind of show that relies on its wordplay and always thought that the version we watched was "missing" something. Admittedly I completely missed out on what was happening with Senjougahara but I think I'll pick up on it and her nuances more after a rewatch.

I'm glad to have brought some light to your day! I'll try to post here and there- catch me around!

Haven't heard of Tower of Sunz but just gave it a listen. The messaging (lyricism and symbolic reference of the Tower of Suns), while appreciated, didn't resonate with me much since I am quite detached from my self, but I was able to find connection with the atmosphere and vocals. It was unexpected the song being 8 minutes and abstract as it was for being from 2008. Adding the album it's from to my listening queue.

And yes, it is always nice coming across other Vocaloid enjoyers :)

Yeah, it is a pretty complicated series. I couldn't imagine seeing it high and coming out with a single thing lol, it'd be like watching some weird adult swim show. Also, thank you :) I'll PM you about the subs thing and where you can find them. Be warned that you will need some spare drive space, but if you don't have that, you could download one/a few episodes at a time and delete them or something.
