I think in my case I would bet that my future is more hopeless. I can see some somewhat realistic scenarios how the world can do damage control to all the things that happen.
Moreover, the world has managed so many crises in the past. And it recovered. There is a lot of scientiifcal progress.

Personally, I also have been through a lot of crises but actuallly I am still in a pretty bad shape. Compared to an average mentally ill patient. And the structural problems of my life accumulate without being able to actually solve my major issues. I am like a deer in the spotlight. I just freeze. And actually fighting against the odds also almost drove me to kill myself. So I just have to give up and accept my fate.

Probably the world. I really think we're fucked. Climate, overpopulation, reaching peak oil, dwindling natural resources, nukes, dangerous politics, wars etc etc

I could likely endure all sorts of crap in my own life if I thought it was worth it somehow... but since I don't see any reason for any of the pain/suffering I would rather opt out and also lower my chances of getting one of those rare but horrific things happen to me in the future - motor neurone disease etc.

I think that after World War III, the world will eventually recover. I believe in meliorism, so anyway, I think the world will be fine in the end. The only question is: how many people will be left?
My own future looks a bit darker, but I still think it can get better. I've managed to overcome some of the negative symptoms of my borderline personality disorder, and I've learned to manage the rest much more effectively.

Both look worringly bad. It's hard to predict which is the more f*cked. I suppose it's too nuanced as well. Even when things get so bad here- with severe weather and climate change disasters cropping up regularly. If AI and robots replace most jobs. Some arseholes out there will still find a way to capitalise on other people's misery. As in 'Game of Thrones'- chaos isn't a pit for some people. It's a ladder.

For the majority though- it's impossible to know whether their life will be easier or harder than mine. It's difficult to predict what's even ahead for me. I don't think any future looks good though. Hence, why I'd rather not have one.

Agree that they're both completely hopeless, and betting on any progress in the world to fix things is a massive trap. The structures of society are decaying as fast as or faster than our individual lives. Science can't fix that. But I don't really buy into just freezing and accepting date either - you just have to wake up each day and face the routine even if just out of pure utility.

realistically, there is always a possibility of hope no matter how hopeless it may seem from this point now.
but to me, both are equally hopeless... or maybe I choose to think they are hopeless because I just don't want to be disappointed.. I'm tired of trying

Definitely personal future. I don't keep up with any sort of politics so I can't comment on the state of the world.

My own future is more hopeless. This planet will always recover, with or without humans, there have been mass extinctions that have fertilized the soil for new life multiple times in Earth's history. I, however, am irreparable.

My own future here on Earth will be brief, and I actually do have pretty high hopes for myself in the Hereafter.
This Earth though sadly is very sick with a malignant cancer AKA humanity which keeps tormenting, exploiting and murdering the others, invading and destroying their habitats and suffocating the entire biosphere. I'd hope that AI or something else would save the Earth by ending humanity, but how that would play out for the others is also doubtful. But the only hope for the Earth and all the other species who live here is in stopping humanity, and doing that without (further) harm to the rst of the biosphere would be very difficult at best.
So I'm actually much more hopeful for my own afterlife.

My personal future. I don't think the world is going to end or anything. Humanity has always been a mess but somehow we keep going anyway.

For me, life has mostly been reacting to things rather than pursuing them. It's hard to imagine things getting significantly better when I'm still the same person I've always been.
