I think there are many things to consider. One could do this as thought experiment and apply it to all people on the world.
I find it more interesting to imagine that it is limited to a restricted time period. If you could trade shoes like.
I had this talk with friends in the past when I had extreme psychosomatic pain. I always tried to describe to them how painful it feels. At its worst it felt like getting torn apart in my feet. I asked them whether they would accept the deal to feel to pain that I experience for a short time. I think this had to do with existential loneliness and the feeling of isolation that no matter how precise you desribe your consciousness to someone you will never know for sure what the other person is going through. Never might be an exaggeration. We will see what neurallink and transhumanism will bring to the table. It rather sounds dystopian to me though.
My friends replied to me they would not want to feel it one week or one month. I wanted them to agree to the deal with such a length. Because you are able to cope with it from moment to moment. The real existential pain comes from the feeling and fear that this pain will last forever and that it is actually inescapable. I think they agreed to a few hours up to a day. I had to laugh about their reasoning. One friend replied he was scared if it lasted longer that he would kill himself. When I remember it I sort of chuckle. Because I don't think this is how suicidality usually works like. At least not for me. Yes you might fantasize about suicide when you are in a lot of pain. But all the planing that is necessary, all the research. When I was younger I also thought in such a way about suicide. If one really horrible thing happened I would be gone immediately. I had no clue what is accompanying all of this. And the extreme overwhelming worries about what could go wrong. But not all people work like me. Some are really impuslive and take huge risks.
But I still have to answer the question of the title. Obviously I would make the whole world literally everyone feel as bad as me forever. And I won't give them the mercy to die. Jk. This isn't my resentment and bitterness speaking. It was just a joke. I think though the world might be a better place if many powerful people or at least very privilged people and elites would experience what it feels like being in my shoes. Or in the shoes of someone on here. On certain issues I am also very privileged. Actually I think the people would probably be more in favor of liberal assisted suicide laws. But the guilt one feels when one is suicidal maybe some people would interpret that as religious warning. I could imagine with my past psychoses some would go down the dogmatic religious rabbit hole. And explain their pain through religious beliefs. But now seriously. Why not my pain one week for all. And then back to normal. I think many people would suppress and fade out the experience though. Do rationalization and stuff like that. Things they already do in practice. Actually I am not fully convinced the effect could also backfire. Because many people would also go back to normal and say look we all became better afterwards. That's probably a loophole in the iogic of this thought experiment. Not sure how to counter that. Extenting the time period to 1 year. Would this be ethically defendable? Too many questions that are implied now. I won't answer them. I might play some video games with friends now.
What do you think about it? But remember the economic damage could be devastating...
