Hello - first post here.

Does anyone know much about inquests in the UK?

Specifically im wondering about how much detail would be revealed at an inquest from my medical records (i.e. NHS mental health services) and especially what questions / how much detail would be asked from my private therapist?

I know it probably sounds stupid but i dont mind the obvious being stated (that i have depression etc) but really wouldnt want the triggers behind my depression to be brought out publicly like that (specifically past traumatic events etc that have led to mental health problems).

What would a counsellor be legally required to disclose? Would they have to give details of things i had discussed in the appointments or just that they were seeing me for low mood etc?

Thanks for any help.

Any history of MH would be put forward as evidence if suicide is suspected afaik.

On the plus side, you wouldn't be around to hear it.

Thanks - so would that include revealing anything I'd disclosed to them, including trauma / abuse etc? Theres some personal stuff that I've talked about in the hope of improving myself but would never want it to be "out there" even if Im dead. Just seems so unnecessary.

I would expect discretion to be used. For example it would be in the file for the coroner, and there'll certainly be a narrative as to *how* you felt, with less emphasis as to *why*.

An example being when someone suicides and divorce is the trigger. It may be stated that the individual reported being "under some strain following the breakdown of a relationship" but the minutiae of this will obviously be withheld from public view.

Thank you for explaining - it was very helpful.
