I now live in a state that if my own BROTHER rapes me, I still won't have access to abortion unless I can afford to travel about 800 miles away.

That's fucked up! The laws in that state are just insane!

This is insane. We can only hope this will inspire people in your state to elect legislators who will back abortion rights. I can't think of any other countries in the world that outright ban all abortion.

So is this a good or bad thing?
I don't think it's a good idea personally. I mentioned it in line with OP's sentiments with things taking a regressing (backwards) turn.

I sense you may disagree. I'm not looking to challenge or have a debate on it. We all have our opinions. Truth be told, I' d love to carry a gun for defense. I just don't think it's particularly safe.

That says it all, except the poverty, starvation, and disease in first-world countries is on a level the US as a whole will never experience. But the homelessness and access to healthcare, even more than ever for women with this ruling, is horrifying!!!šŸ¤¬šŸ˜
I have been homeless for over 30 years, was finally seeing some light that I might get a home and covid hit and has raised prices on housing, and everything else again so that my husband can barely afford gas to get to work. The LNLY reason we can eat is that we have no place to live, no rent to pay, no mortgage, which actually makes eating more exspensive, I have been sick for years, cannot get health treatment, it cost us every single dime we had saved to get a home, to get a a root canal done that I had needed for at least three years, possibly longer, my husband, I and my service animals had to live in a semi truck for over 7 years, because he was working 7 days a week, 14 hours a day and could not make enough to afford a rent or mortgage so we could even have a home to go home to on days off if we every got any, or that he could leave me at home in so I would not have to be in a tiny truck all day and all night every day and every night, starving and getting sicker and sicker because we could not afford to eat proper food and the processed shit you can get in truck stops, the only place you can get food when you live on the road, is nothing but crap that is actually designed to create obesity and is known to be responsible for disease and illness....
I lived in a third world country in the 80's, I had better health care, that was all but free, it cost a minimal, because I opted for the better more expensive private hospital, had a troubled pregnancy and a difficult delivery, saved my life and my child's who was born over a month early and it still cost less than $200 US for over a years of medical care, we had fresh food EVERY night, but could afford to eat out at the restarants, and my husband was a lowly government worker..... but yeah, tell me more about how the us will never be anything like third world countries disease and poverty. Wake up and look around you. See all those rvs and cars parked all round at walmart and on the streets all around you, they are here in every city, and they are NOT vacationers. These people have been living in their rv's, cars and trucks, parked at shopping center and on the streets around the towns all winter, all spring, no, they are NOT vacationers, they are HOMELESS... so please, tell me more about this great united states,,,,I waiting

The point of my comment was to not minimize the hell that EVERYBODY deals with in the poorest of countries in the world, not to make the US sounds like it's bliss. For most people it's a daily struggle. Horrifyingly, there are more and more people in situations like yours.

The US is an utter shithole! You'd never see me calling anything about it "great" It's a vile greedy, sociopathic country, full of shockingly stupid and horrible people!!!

I'm really sorry for your situation. It's absolutely AWFUL šŸ˜¢! I've been homeless and carless more than once and without healthcare for years between the time that I could no longer work and applied for and received disability.

I was totally alone, thank goodness (no children, partner, or any other mouths to feed). I had lost everything, including almost all of my clothes. I had and still have a family who doesn't know or care if I'm dead or alive.

I'm not sure how you got from my comment that I think the US is anything but a POS. I was comparing it to countries more like Bolivia and Zimbabwe, and many of of those in the Middle East.

I DESPISE the US and why I tried twice to kill myself when I was overseas, because I'd rather be dead than live there.

I've become desperate for about a year and why I was planning to CTB this week.

Your story is absolutely horrendous, and I'm painfully aware of the number of people like you and your family who can barely survive.

If it wasn't for a kind and generous friend, I'd be where you are still. Actually, I'd have been dead a long time ago and wish I was.

I REALLY misread that, when I go back and read it, I see how I misread it. Wow, I feel dumb. I am stressed, found out yesterday my now dead mother in law WAS the one who broke into our home and stole my children's identity papers, and my vision is being jumpy, I am typing backwards and with alot of typos, it is taking me alot longer to type and many more corrections that it normally does. I am really sorry I misread that. I somehow read that you did not think the US could ever be as horrible as a third world country, I REALLY misread. I am going to take a break from here now, please accept my apologies for misreading. I have taken the time to reach out for help from anyone who might have some legal expertise, so maybe when I come back here I can find some hope. I felt racked up and horrid when I woke this morning, like this woman has violated me all over again, now I feel really stupid for misreading. Time to take a break, sleepy time nappy time, why be awake when you cant read or type

I'm so sorry that you have had to endure all of this! The US healthcare system, lack of social services, and need for affordable housing are all in crisis. Thank you for sharing and pointing out how so many people are living in their cars in parking lots. I wish I could tell you how to find support but it sadly depends very much on where you live. US gonna be heading for a civil war between Red and Blue states. What's the point of having a united country when everything is going to be turned over to individual states, all 50 states might as well become independent countries. Heard that Clarence Thomas mentioned something overturning laws that affect same-sex relationships, same-sex marriages, and trans rights, which would make some of it illegal.

Yup, very scary indeed. I struggle daily with whether I should move back to NY where rights are protected or stay in Florida where my vote carries more weight. This is a big part of my hopelessness and desire to ctb.
If there's a war, I am definitely heading back to the north!

A civil war isn't necessary, it should be pretty clear to both sides that there are distinct ideological differences that tend to break down regionally. We need a plan to dissolve the union into regions that are more representative of their common ideology and make arrangements for those who find themselves in the "wrong" state to make their way to where they feel they belong.

(I know this is crazy talk, but I can dream)

People going to protest though, I don't see how that's going to help things. If you want to make a statement, we all collectively need to stop paying income taxes or reporting it, stop supporting politicians who won't raise a finger about it unless it's going to cost them their careers, and start supporting grassroots organizations that would one day overthrow the current two party corrupt system that we have today.

I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

Supreme courts ruled in favour of allowing citizens to carry guns in public too.

Wild west here we come. Only now we're less civilised but believe ourselves to be more civil than ever. The human race as a whole appears to be suffering with some kind of narcissistic delusional state of mind.

Are you NOT paying attention? Abortion is already banned since the overturning. It is basically banned is several backwards states that have incorporated church into state against the Federal Constitution. Texas, banned, AND anyone from anywhere, that is right, any state, can sue anyone who helps anyone else obtain an abortion, just file the suit in Texas. Oklahoma, banned. The list goes on. Several states that are not outright banning are using outright misinformation as scare tactics to deter and REQUIRe these tactics to be undergone by anyone pursueing an abortion.

I wish the vaccines could reverse sterilize, like we vaccinate the assholes in government that remove rights, any rights and they can not only no longer reproduce, any progeny they already have drops dead, their parents drop dead and they drop dead, problem solved, yay vaccines! No, seriously, very scarey, the whole situation, do you realize that within a matter of years, woman could be relegated to non person status, no longer able to vote, nothing more than mere property to be traded like goats.

What right is next? The right to marry who we choose? To love who we choose? To be black and still have a voice and not be chained and beaten into submission?

When we remove the dignity of autonomous bodily control, (which is what the right to abortion is, the right to NOT have a parasite suck your strength and vitality for nine months to the next 18 years, the right to NOT have to carry rapist's offspring, the right to NOT have your own life threatened due to complications), we remove personhood, we deny being, we remove a right that we have NO right to take away. That unborn fetus cannot survive on it's own, yet it can kill the person carrying it, in more ways than one, why should something that is not yet born and cannot possible be bestowed personhood, take precedence over a being that has already acquired personhood, against that personhoods will?

By removing personhood from women, you make them noting but vessels, property. It is disgusting.

Instead, how about we forcibly Castrate all the men, chemically or physically so that no female has to endure unwanted parasites in their body, forced into them by the male of the species. Abortion will not be needed if MEN take responsibility.

As for breeding, the world is so overpopulated at this point, we do not need to require birthing to maintain our species;
enough women WANT to have children and can;
enough women who get pregnant and do not want to raise the child are willing to carry the pregnancy to term and adopt out;
children left and right all over the world are orphaned and in need of being homed, orphanages are NOT empty,
It is NOT needed to require birthing to accommodate those people that want to raise children and cannot have any on their own.

Requiring women to carry pregnancies to term against their will is archaic, unscientific and a detriment to the health of more than women than allowing access to safe abortion.

What does the right to contraception mean exactly? It's a choice opposite to absitnence, not inherently a right. Even phrased like that, does reconsidering this case mean contraception may be banned?!

The right to contraception means the right to control my own body, period.
By however and whatever means I so choose. Period.
By chemical means, by chastity, ....but alas, chastity does not work when men use their strength, testosterone and tools like ropes, knives, guns, chains, belts, handcuffs, whatever they can find and choose to use, to take what they want from you, and often times, leave you pregnant with their filthy disgusting offspring,
so...... unless all men are WILLING to be chemically or physically castrated, then all women should have the right to NOT have to be forced into pregnancy. Period. If that means, that I cannot take the chemical contraceptions and I am raped and impregnated, then that contraception includes, ABORTION. Period.

At the time of roe versus Wade abortion was not even controversialā€¦ It was basically created by conservatives as a way of creating a wedge issue and allowing red state people to feel morally superior to the sexually Craven blue staters. The whole issue is frankly ridiculous. Hopefully it will actually drive more progressive to the polls in places like Texas so that they can actually pass laws allowing for abortion. The idea that you can't get an abortion in a place like Austin Texas is madness. Eventually red states will have to pass laws allowing abortion or they will get left behind as they already are.

Basically, they would be revisiting a ruling that declares that states/localities cannot prohibit birth control methods that have been approved by the FDA. If they were to overturn Griswold, states world be free to limit or outright ban previously approved birth control methods. i.e. Mississippi could make the pill illegal.

I am lucky to not be a US citizen now, but I am afraid of how will this affect what's happening in the rest of the world. There are just too many pro suffering anti abortion idiots outside America as well and this might be an encouragement for them, which means the whole world going backwards.

It really breaks my heart that so many people will have to suffer and potentially die because trying to control reproductive behavior like this leads to complete ruin of society, I suppose they've been inspired by similar shitshow that happened in Romania under brutal dictatorship.

And btw, where are all the "pro lifers" when it comes to healthcare access, education, social welfare, ACTUAL safety (gun laws is just one aspect of many), not having to worry being ostracized/treated differently because of one's race/ethnic background etc.? They're just hypocrites in my opinion, they don't care about the ACTUAL HUMANS at all.
