But Germany had has such low death rates so far, you really did manage the crisis very well. What is the press saying about that?

Just don't come to the UK. My money is on a second wave. Maybe I'm just pessimistic but I just get this idea we are going to fuck it up soon.

I was going to visit Basingstoke this summer because you recommended it to me, but I guess I'll wait then.

Go to Rainham, South Essex instead. I'm sure there are worse places in the world but I've not been to them. It makes Basingrad seem like Butlins.

The moment the state epidemiologist announces on national tv that it's ok to travel, I am packing my bag and going somewhere warm where I can swim and drink cold frappuccinos on the beach.

I'm going to work on the Potato Principle I think. Whatever is decided to be a sensible course of action, I will do the opposite.

Do you distrust the government, or are you going against in on principle because you are an anarchist at heart?

If you follow the Potato Principle, then you assume that most people are stupid and any consensus must be wrong so you do the opposite. So if everybody stays in, go out...lovely and deserted. And if everybody goes out, stay in and keep away from them.

But really I'm just being a git.:blarg:

And we DO have the highest numbers in Europe I believe.

That is terrible. Why did it spread so much in the UK?

Who knows? Maybe mitigation was a better strategy than lockdown. Dunno. We went into lockdown late so as not to tempt people to get bored with it (which they are now) and half arsed it.
We'll be easing the measures from Monday, which means many will just disregard them entirely. I think we fucked it up because we didn't properly commit to it soon enough and will come out of it too soon too.
So we appear to effectively be a mix of mitigation and isolation, in order to try and protect the economy, and so manage to properly accomplish neither.
But I dunno just a guess, who knows with is bloody thing?

Here is an explanation...

It's a beautiful, cozy spring night and I am l lying on the bench in my backyard, scotch in hand, gazing at the stars (I think I can see Jupiter), listening to the alcoholic wife of my neighbour throwing up in her bathroom through the open window. She is throwing up in violent, short bursts, spitting and moaning in between them.

The media has of course used this pandemic and contributed greatly to the panic in the populace. At first I was worried, because they reported on it uncritically, but as it went on they became more balanced and presented critical voices as well.

In the comment sections the great majority, who are in favour of the lockdown and harsh measures, seem to have abandoned rational thinking for emotional appeals and fear mongering. A good example of this were the images out of Bergamo, where the military had to transport caskets to crematoriums in different locations because the local one was at maximum capacity (close to which it usually operates anyway – it only takes a few extra bodies a day for them to become overwhelmed). These images had a powerful emotional effect on people, and soon after they were released, people used phrases like "heaps of dead bodies" to shout down anyone questioning the proportionality of the measures, even though the number of bodies that had to be transported by the military was not all that great – compared with the average all cause mortality figures in italy before the pandemic for example. You see a lot of scapegoating and black and white thinking.

And then there is this thread where someone misspelled SN as NS which has been floating up for a couple of days. "Getting NS in Europe" or something.

Maybe we have been infiltrated by neo Nazis long ago and they are dog whistling.

There was a thread I think two nights ago that got deleted, by a member, who says he was saved from wanting to ctb by joining an online fringe right-wing anti-covid group, and was liked so much that he was one of less than 10 people invited to a sleepover party at a bar tonight, and maybe they were a cult or a gang, or maybe it was a police sting, but it gave him a reason to live since his reason for ctb was the quarantine and was political. And if he was dog whistling, my dumb ass just helped him.

Seriously weird shit has been going on on the forum this week. I asked in a comment on this thread earlier this week, I know there are waves of pro-life attacks on SS, are there also waves of troll attacks? Or now I wonder, fringe group attacks?

Edit: And yeah, the guy today who posted about ctb with homemade C4, thread still going.

I was in that thread warning him about getting hogtied in a basement by guys wearing strapons. I wonder if he went?

The site is rather large. It's bound to attract some trolls.. let's just hope that it's not too many of them and that the admins can swiftly deal with them.
