The Effect of Following Someone

I've "followed" several posters sort of expecting to get alerts of their activity or something like that, but I haven't noticed that it makes any difference at all. What am I missing?

Soul, thanks for asking this - I've wondered the same. I was thinking maybe because on other platforms, the more followers you have, the better you look. SS should not be a popularity contest.

No, we don't need "influencers" here, do we. I would like alerts to what the people I'm following are up to.

If you go to "your news feed" - available from "what's new" you can see what all the people you follow are up to. Not obvious, but it exists.
