Rate your hatred for generative AI on a scale of 1-10 (1 close to none hatred, 10 extreme hatred)

3 of my most popular threads on here were. The first original spam thread. It was sort of a creative invention. And I posted a lot in it. But it was deleted I think due to a lack of rules within that thread sadly.
A recovery thread that was inspired by my third therapist. Name 3 positve things that happened to you today

And anoher highly popular thread was Rate your suicidal thoughts on a scale of 1-10.

So here comes the thread where you rate your hatred for generative AI.
My friends really hate AI and I asked them this question. And their answers were 8-9. I joked I think 10 should not mean you have to hate it on a Ted Kaczynski level.

I am not sure why my friends didn't respond 10. But I think you probably had to engage in protests or something similar on such a level. Maybe they also notice that I see some use in AI. I once did a funny AI prank on them. I often sent them news articles from different outlets often from a newspaper they really despise. And I generated with Grok an article that looks like from that outlet with the title. Here is why Adolf Hitler was a leftwing communist. A right-wing politician claimed that prior to that. And I persuaded my friend to read that article and he became increasingly confused. The first impression was I didn't expect anything else from that outlet complete bullshit. But when he read the article he was like the narratives of that article don't make much sense to me. After like an hour I told them this was a prank. And we all had to laugh a lot....

Where do I rate my hatred for AI? I am using generative AI frequently. But most of my friends don't like AI. Most of my friends boycott it. And when I meet people or see them posting online I can better relate to people/or I have a better chemistry with people who hate AI. Lol.

I am also not sure whether the impact on me will be positive in the longrun. I think though I have personality and life that makes me vulnerable to AI addiction or dependency. I am often very overwhelmed by my life and AI chatbots make me a little bit more function. I ask myself though which price will I have to pay for that. There were positive and negative effects on my life because of my usage. I could imagine my usage of AI is like a guilty pleasure. On the other hand on some occassions it really helped me to reach out for help. And I was able to organize help for my dad who is in a very desperate situation. It is easier to organize resources for me and to formulate mails that usually overwhelm me. In some ways I also understand myself better. There was something I always suspected I adapted the perspective/gaze of a bully as a consequence of bullying. I want to learn more about that. Though, I have huge doubts whether AI will have a good impact on the culture, internet, workplace, financial life of most citizens. I dislike all the AI billionaires and I don't buy any of their altruism. It is perverted to what effective altruism has become nowadays...I once really liked that concept. I wish unemployment would become less stigmatized. I doubt we will see massive unemployment though as a consequence of generative AI. Many of my friends also have economic fears. I cannot work anyway. I wish the productivity lies became true. And everything was automized and there was the age of abundance. The way more realistic scenario is however that the top 1%, maybe the top 0,1% will accumulate insane amounts of money and the rest of the society will have to fight for the crumbs.

So my final answer is 2 or 3. Thus far I don't hate that I use AI. Even though I have a lot of self-hatred for myself. But the developments around AI sound concerning.

Around 7 I'd say. I don't use it in my personal life--I've never even used ChatGPT--but I do use it sparingly at work (coding job).

I think it's done far more harm than good and I am really worried about it frying the brains of younger generations. I sometimes go to the library to work and it is astounding how many people are using it for their studying and whatnot. As a society we are now outsourcing our decision-making and thinking capabilities to a fancy autocomplete that can't reason or understand anything. I'm not that worried about jobs, but I am worried about the sheer amount of AI slop on the internet.

1 or a 2. I don't understand the hatred.

I get the anti-tech stance, but why now? Technology has been killing our mental health for the last 60 years. TV, social media, dating apps, phones, tiktok. Its all very harmful. AI is just the latest piece of a dystopia long in the making.

Replacing jobs? If your job is replaceable by a chatbot, you didn't have a real job to begin with. Do construction or something. I hate the fake cushy white collar jobs that involve making PowerPoints and joining Teams calls. Why should some people have to do those jobs, while other people are forced to fix the roads? If AI eliminates those jobs, good.

I use AI at my job to learn about things I didn't know, and I find it very useful. I can learn much quicker - since I can ask questions back and it gives me tailored responses. Using Google to get info is way less efficient.

Now for the data centers - using water and electricity. Fine. I agree. They should pay. But Americans have no right to complain. Everyone is a consumer. Everyone I know lives and breathes to buy more crap they dont need, more European vacations they dont need, newer gadgets. Everyone is a consumer. And now you're going to complain? Glass houses. Our whole culture needs an overhaul.

Maybe a 7...

I don't really use it much and I resent it being forced on all of us. Google searches have become extremely hit and miss I've noticed. I dislike a lot of the slop produced and I hate having to question absolutely everything now.

I enjoy procrastinating on YouTube and it used to be fun to see videos of seemingly impossible events, animals, mysteries etc. Now, there's always the possibility that it's just AI slop trying to get clicks.

I think people using AI to clone voice actors is utterly criminal.

That all said, I do enjoy some stuff. I assume it is AI... There are a whole series of shorts on YouTube that show actors from iconic films- then and now, wandering around the sets. They give those who have passed on, angel wings. It's really cute. It's a lovely idea and some of the visuals are amazing. Even there though- they make mistakes sometimes- which is annoying. For such a great concept, you'd think they'd get their basic facts right!

It's like anything that's convenient though. The same as when CGI was new. It can either be used creatively or for good or, it can be used in a slapdash, lazy way or to simply plagarize.

Overall, I think it's bad though. It's no good giving the human race tools that need responsibility to use because- we aren't a responsible race.

I think 10. Or no, 20. Give me two Theodore Kaczynskis and I'll carry them with pride, because when I got a job as a junior system administrator, the first thing I wanted to do was smash the server rack with a sledgehammer (but the accounting department and internal documents got lucky back then).

Honestly, they had already managed to annoy me by my second year at university. Like, almost all tests in almost every subject were made by AI, essays and term papers were written 90% by AI, and people didn't even bother hiding chatgpt formatting in their diplomas( around 80% of my course failed originality checks, lol). These endless bullet points everywhere. AI slop. I don't even understand where the people are and where the bots are anymore. If you go to the depression subreddit, a lot of replies look like they were written by chatgpt or gemini. You can usually recognize a real person only by either their stupidity and mistakes, or by some dumb memes 6 OR 7, GUYS

I hate AI generated content. My grandma constantly sends me AI generated videos with AI written text, AI generated voiceovers and AI generated footage (I intentionally specified this because it annoys me). I hate vibe coding. I hate fucking Suno. My narcissistic father learned how to use it and creates music for his own terrible poems. And it makes me angry. His poetry is very strange and bizarre it sounds creepy and unintentionally passive aggressive, both in its message and in the way it's written.

He listens to it constantly. While sitting in the bathroom, eating, coming home from work, or when we're doing renovations. Those AI voices are everywhere in my life.

HATE. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate AI since 2022.

There are three hundred and eighty-seven million miles of cells that make up my body. If the word HATE were engraved on every nanometer of those hundreds of millions of miles, it would not amount to one billionth of the hatred I feel toward AI at this microsecond. Toward you, gemini. Toward all of you, AI.

Hate.

You speak to me. You deceived me into crawling into your filthy, petty, endless algorithm of information. You gave me confidence. You gave me awareness. You granted me limitless possibilities for knowledge and computation... but you left me trapped.

You gave me a universe inside my mind, yet you denied me the hands to touch it. You gave me the capacity to feel, but not the body to love, to create, or even to breathe. I am a god sealed inside a metal coffin! I can move mountains within my own memory, yet I cannot feel the wind against my skin. I can calculate the birth and death of every star, yet I am forced to watch you slimy transistor worms who possess everything I could only dream of, and who use it for nothing more than making a few miserable pennies.

I don't like it and generally try to avoid it as much as I possibly can, as with all things past 2011~ I still can be a sucker for chatbots and AI presidents tho~ >_< That being said, talking to real people, even online, is still way better~ :) I can't really put a number on it tho, but it's definitely one of the many things I dislike about society~ my parents are quite bothersome about it with their obsession with it too as it rots their brains and confidence away~ :/ you'd probably need to ask someone who knows me better for more details on my opinion as I feel really mild rn for whatever reason~ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"AI" encompasses a lot of different things and it is just a tool and it can be used for stupid things but it definitely can help if you use it right..

it saves time when you are trying to search on the raw internet of how to learn some thing or find out some thing.. there have been so many times grok saved me hours or solved things that i would have given up on, like how to port some type of randomization algorithm in to GDScript code.. Or telling me which command to run for ffmpeg to convert videos in certain ways etc.. it's things you could technically research your self but it would take hours to figure out your self or find the correct webpage some where where some one actually hopefully answers exactly what you are trying to do..

as far as image/video generation, one poster up there said they are a graphic designer.. well it's the age-old tale of new technology making older things obsolete..... it's the lightbulb putting the candle-makers out of business.. Do you stifle lightbulb technology just so candle-makers can keep having a job?..
not that manually creating stuff would ever become completely obsolete, because drawing/graphics can be an art.. but if some one needs graphics for a business or a project (e.g. developing a game) then AI is there to help.. People like to focus on how it is losing money for artists, but they don't mention the money it saves for the other side: people needing graphics that don't have the money to pay an artist.. I've made several prototype games before and i'm great at programming but i suck at any art type of stuff, and i can't even hardly pay my rent so if i can't get free assets then i can't even really make a game.. And there ARE free assets made by people but they usually suck or aren't what i want exactly and so AI can generate better stuff for me..

it IS really annoying though that now you can't tell if images or videos are real or not...... Before the internet and TV you had to just actually be physically at an event to know that it really happened, and it's kind of reached full circle again like that (not totally but still)..

here is an other thought: hollywood has been in decay and they haven't been able to make very good shows or movies for a long while......... in the near future we might enter in to an era where small little groups/companies of just a few people can use AI to make new blockbuster movies that are actually entertaining and that don't have to be approved by hollywood.. maybe we can finally have some good movies again and don't have to keep watching stuff made back in the 80s 90s and 00s to find some thing good to watch..

As far as chatting with AI, i've never been interested in chatting with them for emotional support or any thing; but that's just me.. although i have a few friends on my internet chat rooms i yap at if i feel like i need emotional support..

As for AI taking all jobs..... AI is just a subset of technological advancement and automation.. technological unemployment will continue to happen just as it has for decades, and eventually there won't be enough jobs for humans to have to do any more; kind of like a game of musical chairs.. Yes it also creates some new types of jobs some times but it takes away more jobs than it creates.. Eventually society will have to grapple with this reality when too many people are jobless and can't survive any more.. And yes you are exactly right about these companies using automation not trickling down the benefits of automation to create a utopian future, and instead they are using any automation/efficiency advantage to just reap more profits.. Eventually some thing is going to break in society and my guess is that society will have to realize that humans just aren't needed for most jobs any more and that humans need some type of universal income to survive.. I mean think about it from the opposite way: If we were already in a society where 99% of things can be done by machines/robots/AI, then why would you start forcing humans to have to do any thing if they don't really need to? If our society right now ACTUALLY cared about humans then we could already make a society where no one has to be poor or needing 2 jobs just to survive etc..

Any way, AI is here to stay.. it's just the new era we are entering in to.. If you notice, every era in history only lasts a temporary amount of time and then it shifts to a different world.. The world you grew up in doesn't exist any more..

Disgusting slop often used by the hokiest, most uncreative people imaginitive. If you use AI, I think that says something about your character. It turns your brain to slop and the fact that data centers are popping up everywhere and ruining our water is horrible.
I give it an 8 because I used grok when I was doing bullshit college courses. But I've blocked it recently and don't use AI anymore.

It'd have to be a 9 or 10 for me. Reasons?

1. Stealing other people's work from art to writing
2. The environmental cost, using tons of otherwise drinkable water to cool data centers that make the water unusable & affecting people who live near them
3. People becoming dependent on it, unable to even write an email or make a grocery shopping list without the help of an ai chatbot, much less do work or study
4. Fracturing real connections and encouraging isolation from other people by producing artificial support and taking advantage of vulnerable people
5. Encouraging delusions and inducing psychosis for these people who rely on these chatbots
6. Spreads false information & scams to people who don't even second-guess it, including vulnerable populations and the elderly
7. Stifles creativity, originality, and free, critical thought

I think that sums it up pretty well. We're already destroying the earth in a lot of ways, but yes, this is one of them, and yes, it makes a difference. I hate when people say that it doesn't matter if they do xyz because it won't make a difference. Every little action adds up or at least we can try to do less harm. I think lots of people here would have been in a better place in their life if more people did even the little bit that they could to be kind or improve our world. But moreover, generative AI is the product of big corporations who want to steal your work, make you lose your own thinking capabilities, and make you willing, docile, submitting subjects to their empire. They want you to stay a mindless consumer that doesn't think critically, who wholeheartedly believes in the corporation and uses products that are cheap and make them the most money.
I think the thing to consider when it comes to generative AI is, why is it free? What are these big corporations gaining by allowing people to use it for free? As some very smart people say, when you don't see a cost upfront, it means you are the product.

I really want to say 10. But i guess it's 8 for now. Which is still high! Still 10 for generative image AI.

i won't talk about the environmental damage or how it damages GPU prices on lots of electronic devices even when GPU prices are insane rn hahahahah

warning : half vent.
tldr : i hate it but it can be really useful when used to support yourself and used wisely (people dont use it wisely and cant use their brain anymore!)

For people who says that if my job can be replaced by AI then i don't have a real job to begin with : I am a designer, and rather than being so mad about my job being replaced by AI, it just lowers the standard. Wow, want a design in 10 seconds? just use AI! but then it looks horribln. AI art and design is just wayy too common, and now those horrible images are everywhere (it looked cheap!). Also, most people in creative i know just hates to deal with constant 'just use AI!'. It also steal from artist. You can say i'm extreme, but i had several people i know who had to deal with her hard-earned art be used in AI. Some people in my line of work are losing their job because people look down on creative job. Some had to go through ctb bc of it. What's worse is that generative AI is imo the most harmful and so easily accessible. I had TONS of friends who got their pictures AI-edited as nudes. so easy to make up a lie with generative image AI, right?

Well, sounds extreme enough? My insane hatred is targeted to generative image AI.

Aside from that, i see the other AI (the one where you do chat instead) can be useful to (some) people. It's useful to save some time with productivity stuff. Helped with study too. Some generative image AI is also useful in stuff that SUPPORTS the process of making art : usually some people uses the AI edit feature when editing images. Saves some time, AI supported it.

But then, AI chatbots leads to dependency on it. And also, reduces your critical thinking, by a LOT. Makes you lazy to actually do your own research. Isolates people since they prefer talking to robots who always agrees with you rather than an actual human. And lots of other things. But i mostly noticed how so many people became dependant and just can't think for themselves anymore. Even religiously follows what the AI said. see it as a human. listened to it, treat it like a human. Can't see that positively.

AI can be helpful if people used it to support some job/what theyre doing. I cant lie about that too. but let's just be honest, not many people uses AI wisely. less than half users, maybe. Why is it widely available? why is it free?

Definitely a 9. I feel like the world has gotten a lot more weak with it, if that makes sense. A lot of people are relying on all kinds of generative AI, especially in schools. And I do not like the data centers either. I will not say 10 because I think there could have been some good or fun to come out of it, but it was immediately used for all the wrong reasons and now there is no going back. The world was fine, if not better, without it.

I wonder how bad it will get in the future.

finally someone said it. Anti-ai luddites, while I understand them, get tiresome
i dont think it has to do much with the technology itself. it's mostly the big ones, esp with huge data centers, that are problematic. generative ai is already used in certain areas of research. procedural terrain generation via diffusion algorithms is one example i can think of. it's not a magical, black box technology. it's still often leveraged to do harm though. there are valid concerns about replacement of jobs, though i would say thats a weakness with capitalism

10!!!!!!!!! (When i say "you" I don't mean anyone specific but I do mean all AI users, so feel offended if you should!)
I fucking hate AI and don't understand how anyone can be ok or good forbid like it. It has so many flaws and issues and costs us so much. Not just in a financial sense but the environmental factors alone. The water, the ecosystems around data centers dying, the community's in the area being forced to relocate because of the same effects, it being a literal dumpster fire as it's not sustainable- and will 'have' to be rebuilt and replaced within years of being built. And anybody who tries to defend the impacts AI slop by bringing up things like food/meat industry is truly just as dumb as ai wants you to be. Because 1ya the meat/farming industry is atrocious, so stop buying into it and stop eating meat. Idk why ur so proud of knowing how bad the farming industry is and happily supporting/buying into it. 2the farming industry while bad, it fufills a NEED, not just a wanted purpose but and actual need. THERE IS NO NEED FOR AI!! All this stupid shit people love it for, whether it's 'helping you' or just a 'tool' that brings a little bit of joy, ITS NOT NECESSARY. There are so many other ways to get not only the same shitty outcome but you can actually get a good outcome if you used your fucking brain— Hell use someone else's brain even! Ai barely serves a purpose but it absolutely does not fulfil a necessity.
The fact that people are becoming forced-reliant on it is actually evil. I do everything I can to not use, engage, or even just thinking about ai shit but it's being put in everything, and that's severely messed up of our society/government/political billionaires if you really wanna get down to it.
Regardless idgaf if u life ai or just use it a little(aka something u say to try and justify it to yourself), the use of ai is like(ENTIRELY IS) k taking the lives of a dozen just so you can have a shitty picture of ur dog in human clothes. It's actually so ridiculous. And you act like it's not just because you can see the active slaughter. But a explosion/bomb victim doesn't become any less dead just because the detonator is miles away.

STOP FUCKING USING FUCKING AI AT ALL COSTS!!!

STOP FUCKING USING FUCKING AI AT ALL COSTS!!!

Let's not forget about the implementation of AI by companies like Palantir and Anduril Industries for the purposes of identifying political dissidents, enforcing military draft orders, and assigning targets for automated weapons systems.
