Tara Condell seemed to have a ton going for her.

Caitlyn Loane exuded happiness. The video they are referring to isn't haunting in that she implied anything

Luo Lili was naked and jumped at 4 pm with baby. Her photos are all glamourous.

Steve Bing's issues seemed complicated.

Sad story.

For me, this will always be the most memorable suicide - a 29 year old baggage handler at Seattle airport steals an empty jet with no pilots license and no formal flight training, flies it around the mountains, pulls off a loop-the-loop and then deliberately nosedives it into an unpopulated island, obliterating himself and the plane in the process. No one else was hurt.

You can see the footage and hear his final conversation here:

Yes, he said 'chalk it up to minimum wage' while flying.

Low on money and perhaps Mick was leaving her.

Models who did it.

Super fucked up story.

There was an MIT student back in the early 2000s who set herself on fire in her dorm room.

Always struck me because I too was a very depressed college student at a school of equal caliber as MIT.

A medical student in New York City jumped out of her 8th floor apartment window (with her roommates sleeping) in 2016 at 5ish in the morning. She was found five minutes later by a group of surgical interns and a classmates of hers who was rotating with them. The dean of her med school published and article about her just entitled "Kathryn". It was very visceral to read as I too am a deeply depressed medical student and I have an overwhelming sense of how she felt when she jumped because of how similar the scenario was to my first suicide attempt. Coincidentally, I read about her on the 5th anniversary of her death just 3 days ago. I wonder if the universe intended for that.

Was there any talk about why the MIT student lit herself? Or why the med student in NYC jumped?

The MIT student, I think she was just your standard very high achieving young person who was breaking down under the pressure. Her parents actually threatened (or did) to sue her high school for not making her valedictorian (they said it was racially based) so she was salutatorian. She was spiraling pretty badly, had been committed to a psych ward, but ended up taking her life. To be clear, it's unknown if it was an intentional suicide or if she accidentally set herself on fire while she was more or less under psychosis.

Suicides among these types of college students aren't uncommon sadly, I've read a lot of different suicides but hers just stuck out to me the most bc I felt empathy with her behavior plus the shock of self immolation whereas other suicides are typically jumps or hanging. There was one at U Penn where a college girl stole cyanide from a lab she worked at to kill herself. That stuck out to me too because when I was in college in my chemistry lab, I wondered about somehow taking the nitrogen gas home to make an exit bag.

The medical student, Kathryn, there wasn't anything much on why she personally killed herself but the article talked a lot about the stigma of mental health problems in medical schools and for doctors, the overbearing stress we're under, and the need for perfection etc. NYC medical scene has been under fire for the number of resident phsyicans and medical students that have killed themselves in the last few years. One will kill themselves one day and then a few days later somebody else did.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much any individual med school or hospital program can do to help the issue because it's a fundamental problem with American society imo where mental illness is stigmatized and proles are expected to work themselves to death. Plus the culture of American doctors is so incredibly toxic where residents are expected to work 90+ hours per week and if you can't or don't want to do that, you're not cut out for the job, so it's just easier to kill yourself. Same with med school, we don't work that long, but you know, any significant mental illness report can derail getting your medical license.

Chris Cornell for me. I was a huge fan of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and his solo work. His music made my nightmare teenage years a little more bearable. It really hit me hard. A handful of his peers died tragically and died young- Lane Staley, Andrew Wood, and Kurt Cobain to name a few. He was seen as one of the ones who "made it" out of the string of young musicians deaths in the 90's. He was incredibly talented and successful. The man was a vocal powerhouse, a phenomenal lyricist, and a wonderful performer. His lyricism and singing conveyed so many emotions that resonated with me. He struggled with both addiction and depression. He continued to perform up until the very end. In fact, he had been on stage performing before he returned to his hotel and hung himself at 52. What made it so memorable and tragic to me is that he held on for so long. He had to have been suffering immensely for decades. The music says it all- he had been writing and singing about it for years. This man was talented, wealthy, a husband, a father of 3, and adored by so many fans. Depression doesn't give a damn about any of those things. Depression can take anyone.

A classic. Some parts of her story are really heartbreaking knowing how things ended up for her.

During her years at Laurel, she jokingly formed a "Dateless Wonder Club" with other "rejected" girls who did not have dates on Saturday night.

On occasion, Chubbuck incorporated homemade puppets she had used to entertain children with intellectual disabilities during her volunteer work at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Mitchell Heisman wrote an almost 2,000 page suicide note. Then shot himself on the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, MA in 2010.
The note can be read here, though I'm afraid to say it is borderline gibberish.

It looks like he had a Wikipedia page once upon a time, but it is now a dead link.
  • Mitchell Heisman, a 35-year-old who held a bachelor's degree in psychology from Albany University. His suicide note was notable due to its unconventional format; at 1,905 pages, spanning topics concerning (and not limited to) human nature, society, religion, technology, and science, the suicide "note" was more akin to a grand philosophical tome. Heisman published his book, Suicide Note, online for free download[27] within a day of finally shooting himself on the Harvard University campus.[28][29]
Most news coverage seems to have been removed with the passage of time, but here's an article from Huffington Post:

Marvin Heemeyer, the "Killdozer" rampage - In 2004, following a lengthy dispute with the town authorities where he lived, Heemeyer created an armored bulldozer and destroyed many buildings before taking his own life. The only loss of life was Heemeyer's own, however, making the whole "killdozer" line a bit of a misnomer. Big write up on Wikipedia:

There are a bunch of YouTube videos, but here's one, reasonably fair:

Thank you.

My issues have always been socially related not necessarily academic although that probably does play a role. I've generally felt like the unwanted ugly duckling my entire life and I'm not sure I'm ever turning into a swan.

I see suicide as very cathartic for me, like a strong itch I want to scratch very badly, but at the same time there's like a level of ruthlessness to me that's somehow keeping me alive. Trying to balance how miserable I feel about my existence with the legitimate enjoyment I get from intellectual stimulation from studying medicine and a lil bit of hope in the future I won't hate myself lol. I guess the forum functions as me sort of fulfilling my suicidal urges, like my own secret to keep to myself (my family and friends are aware of my suicidal tendencies but don't know I'm here).

Here's to hoping a massive dose of hallucinagens will cause me to fundamentally change how I view myself and my life in a different light so I'll stop fantasizing about killing myself hahaha.

Yes, I think she among other issues she was really hurt by her husband's affair with Assia Wevill. Assia then had his baby, took care of Plaths...got angry he wouldn't marry her and killed herself and child.

Yes, I really liked how Avicci's parents responded they said: he just couldn't go on. I think that sounds understanding of whatever he was going through. Yeah, slashing with a broken bottle is fucking so intense.

I think there was something weird going on with Anthony Bourdain's gf. I don't know. Shocking because he had such a cool gig and seemed like a cool guy.

He dealt with alcoholism and pancreatitis from it. Very painful. I think he was too sensitive (in a good way).

The theory I've heard: his girlfriend was accused of rape by a minor boy. She told Bourdain he was blackmailing her so Bourdain pays him off. But then the girlfriend admitted on a secretly recorded conversation that she /did/ rape him.

Presumably, Anthony Bourdain couldn't cope with his role in harming a rape victim even if it wasn't intentional. Sucks it was Anthony who died and not his disgusting girlfriend.

Heaven and hell exist but are temporary and the length you stay depends on the karma you accumulate. Hell can last billions of years if you do something bad enough like patricide or matricide. The goal is to break the cycle of suffering (death and reincarnation) and achieve nirvana

George Sanders (An Oscar winner)

He died of cardiac arrest at 65 after swallowing the contents of five bottles of the barbiturate Nembutal.

(At 31 years old he said to his friend David Niven that he would commit suicide from a barbiturate overdose when he was 65)
It said it took two days for cardiac arrest from 5 bottles of N! An interesting fellow it sounds...lots of bad shit. His note:

Dear World, I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck.
