Discussion Is it okay in your opinion to wish for someone to come back to life?

Ive had this on my mind ever since my friend passed away a couple years ago. Is it really okay for us to wish for them to come back to life, or is it unacceptable? I always wish him peaceful rest when I visit his grave, but deep in my heart, I really want him to come back to us mortals. I just miss him so so much and I believe that if he was still here everything would go another way, but I just feel like its not alright to wish for someone to come back to life once they are already dead.

I wish every day to have my partner back. I will never call him ex, he will always be my partner in my imagination. I say imagination because he doesn't know if I'm okay, he doesn't know if I'm alive, he doesn't know that all the days are gray for me since he left me alone. He lives only in my imagination, now he is a dream. Of course I want him, but he won't come back, I'm completely alone and the pain I feel no one can understand... I live in the desert of love.

Yeah, that's the thing that comes to my mind. Everybody has taught me that if someone is dead, then just leave them alone. But oh gosh does my soul want to go the other way around it, it's just so fucking weird how I can leave everyone alone, but not my friend. It bothers me so much.

Yes, it's only human. In fact he will come back to life... he will be resurrected at the last like we all will.

I think multiple things can be true at the same time. Of course life ends , that's how the world works and if people came back to life that would cause problems - on a larger scale. Personally, for me as an individual: yes. I have a person I miss dearly and it still hurts that they are no longer with me. I don't think there is anything wrong with me just because I sometimes wish they would still be here with me to share experiences or just life. Life can be pretty lonely and tough. But at the same time I hope they rest well and I am okay with their passing. I m very sure when my time comes (ctb or otherwise) my friends and partner would feel similarly. Life is complicated. Emotions are, too. That doesn't change the reality of life and death. It's okay

I used to have this conversation with my Dad. My Mum died when I was 3. (Natural causes- cancer- not suicide.) Naturally, I missed her. I suppose as a way to try and get me to move beyond it, my Dad would tell me that, right at the end, she was really suffering and, it wouldn't be fair to wish her back in that condition. Kind of a weird thing to say though really- it's not like resurrection on this earth is even possible! so- why then insist it would only be possible under those conditions?

But anyhow- as a concept- surely, we wouldn't wish a mere existence of suffering back on someone we loved. We'd prefer them back in a happier state. I imagine that's what you would wish for your friend. That they'd return to live a happier version of their life with you. That isn't selfish. That's hoping you'd both benefit from it.

I suppose you have to consider whether that would be realistic though. I'm not sure if they took their own life but in a way, I suppose that further complicates things. Someone who goes via their own hand I imagine would probably want that decision respected.

As to whether it's selfish- maybe that depends on whether you would actually do it (if you could that is.) Thinking about it is one thing- it's natural to miss the people we loved. It's natural to want them in our lives still. To actually do it though- if you knew they were coming back to the same problems. Not sure. That's a bit murkier to my mind. Would you though- realistically? (If you could.)

People coming back to life is impossible, so my stance is strictly practical and not theoretical.

Respecting someone having been put to rest and wishing they could come back are both acceptable because there are no unacceptable feelings. Sure they're contradictory, but human emotions are contradictory. If it were possible to bring someone back to life I'd think it would be immoral, but bringing someone back to life would be an action, not a feeling, and it's not possible anyways so there really isn't anything to worry about here.

It's reasonable to respect someone's death and to not want them to come back just for them to potentially suffer more.
It's also reasonable to want someone back because we miss them.

I don't think it's wrong to want both of these things, and you don't need to feel guilty about wanting both at the same time. Human emotions always want to have their cake and eat it too, it's normal and not something to be ashamed of.

To wish to see someone you miss isn't a bad thing. It becomes a bad thing if you obsess over it or get angry with that person because they aren't here anymore.

Its only thoughts, after all it is impossible to make one come back, and the only way we could possibly meet is after I die, but even if I die, it's not guaranteed for me to go to heaven, and we dont even know if afterlife even exists, and rely purely on our religious beliefs
