The world is full of successful ugly people. I watch tv and I see about half the people on it are so fucking ugly, I can't believe they don't break the camera. But there they are, living their lives, very successfully.

Looks matter, but pretending looks are all that matters is just silly and immature.

I just binged the Handmaid's tale and I can barely stand the sight of the lead actress, her face makes me so uncomfortable. But she's making millions with that face. Good for her.

Take out loans and go get whatever "fixes" you think you need - hair implant, teeth straightening and whitening, lipo, nip tuck, whatever. If you plan on ctb anyway, what's a loan matter.

You'll see soon enough that beauty doesn't make life better if your head isn't in the right place. Some of those most beautiful people see themselves repulsive and commit suicide...
Also, a reminder, beauty is highly subjective. What one person finds hideous another may love (Gap in teeth, freckles, curly hair, dad bods, bbw, etc - I've seen all of these on both sides of the discussion as ugly and beautiful).

Fixes aren't always so easy as "just get it done." Hair transplants require that a guy have enough hair on his head to provide hairs that will be moved to his balding areas. The problem with this is that guys start balding in their 20s and they get a transplant done and then they bald some more and they need another transplant, and then they keep balding further and keep needing more & more transplants as they age. When they are all done, they're spent so much on their hair that they they could have bought a Corvette instead. In the end some of these guys still just end up shaving their head, but then you can clearly see the scars where hair was taken from the back of their head. If hair transplants were a viable solution do you really think Jeff Bezos would be bald? He's not bald just because Amazon doesn't sell hair (yet).

As for teeth, that can be quite a process. My teeth are yellow, have a cross-bite, they're not even close to straight, due to grinding they are all worn down severely and at least 10 front teeth have chipped. The front teeth would all require crowns. That's some extensive restoration work, in addition to treatment for gum disease.

Lipo & a tuck could do the job if you're relatively lean and just have some stubborn fat that exercise won't get rid of, but it's not going to remove the extra 50# I have (and that's after losing 30# since last fall). Though surgery like that isn't a very realistic option for me since I'm absolutely terrified of blood & surgery & pain. I'm that guy who is covered in sweat & ready to pass out when giving a blood sample.

As for beauty being subjective, that's true to some extent, but they are certain traits that are generally deemed attractive by basically everyone. There is a reason why fashion models are all tall & lean & young. Even plus-size models are always the best looking young women who happen to fit into the smallest of the plus-size range. They don't have any 300# middle-age lady who is fighting for fat acceptance, since hardly anybody (except chubby chasers) thinks that's attractive. Now I'm not trying to insult fat women. As a fat guy I get what it's like. I fully recognize that women do not soak their panties thinking about men who look like me.

Regardless, there are options.
So hair treatment is extensive, get a wig - so forth.

I get what you're saying, it's not a quick fix. There are options for most cases though. Personal opinion, not trying to be argumentative.

Not if you're filthy rich or have other traits that make you desireable. It contributes ALOT to how your life will play out but it's not the definative factor per sé. I'd be happy to put all of misery and loneliness on being unnatractive but it's more than that alone.

That's basically it.

It is like a sentence from birth, as if punishment for something. It also means that such a person has bad genes and may have health problems. I learned to endure my disgusting appearance, the body is just a tool for me (like drone), but I don't know how to endure suffering and vile sensations, weakness and worthlessness. I would really enjoy being alone, be NEET, to be asexual, I was never going to have some kind of social life. I would be pleased to work as an IT specialist if I could - but my cognitive abilities are extremely low, i feel too bad. I don't have money and my parents will die soon.

All I ever wanted was just to sit at home alone and play video games, but I couldn't get even that, most of my life I lived in complete poverty and could not buy computers and tech that i like. 3 years I could not buy a new computer mouse for example, I cann't play "Cyberpunk 2077" when it will release because I have no money for a new computer, no money for N, just no money. I feel damned, this is a special humiliation for me.

I'm obese, bald, middle-aged, and my teeth are absolutely horrible, which means (if I didn't have disabling social phobia) that I could get an obese 45-year-old woman with bad teeth. Unfortunately, I'm not attracted to such a woman.

i do believe though that the OP meant people who are unattractive by nature, not other factors (things that can be improved if you wanted them to be i mean - hope i'm not being offensive)

also who says bald men are unattractive, some look manly as hell.

You are right about unattractiveness being a potential indicator of health problems, which makes it sensible for not wanting to breed. Many visual cues indicate poor health, and it would totally go against evolution to want to breed with someone in poor health.
Yet most people just find someone as ugly/unhealthy as themselves, and breed anyway.

Note the ten figures in Jay Z's net worth: $1,000,000,000. When a guy is a millionaire a thousand times over he would look just fine even if he were a troll.

It gives a feeling of inferiority, weakness, humiliation. The real problem is that it is even if we are given the perfect beautiful body, we will still feel the same way, we have lived for too many years like that. I have always been too nerd with big glasses on my ugly head, I don't know how to live otherwise.

This is not even that nobody likes people like me - people like me don't understand all these human relationships, i am sociopath it seems.

In practice, it looks like this: when I studied at the institute several times one girl tried to talk with me, she helped me several times for no reason or reward. I didn't understand why she does it? What the hell does she want from me? She was smart, rich, kind and very beautiful (too beautiful, like model, I felt somehow wrong even standing next to her, I would never even have thought to talk to her). Only after a few years of reading the Internet, I realized that for some reason probably she liked me, was so kind to me for this reason, but then it didn't even occur to me. Appearance affects the psyche and personality.

Yeah, the bald thing works for Jason Statham though it might be that women like him because he's a muscular stud. He's not exactly your average bald guy. He's a really good looking guy that just happens to be bald. And would Statham perhaps look even better if he had all the hair he had 30 years ago?

It's not over because of that, but it helps. It's when you lack money, intelligence and personality when you are screwed. If you have at least one of those, you can make it out somehow.

I do not think you are a sociopath. Sociopaths actively want to hurt others, you just don't understand them. Except, you do.

OK, I'll agree that looks aren't everything. Though they are an important factor.

Now how much money do all of you think is enough? I'm not poor, so I have that going for me. Though money just means you can afford to shoot yourself with a nice gun. Intelligence is highly over-rated. I've known two Mensa members in my life and I was not at all impressed by either one of them. Being smart might actually be a negative since it can hurt to have the ability to think critically. Thinking is a real downer when done in a world that objectively sucks. As for personality, I'm not sure I ever really got to develop that with the lack of social interaction that my anxiety imposes.

Actually, not being born ugly simply delays the inevitable doom unless you are born into a rich and wealthy family. You think good looks last forever? I fucking wish.

Most of the people I came across who claimed to have high IQs were morons too.

My attractive years are over, now I'm in my invisible years. It really is something, turning 30 and simultaneously fading into the background. I'm not special anymore. There is nothing special about me, in fact. But it's a matter of fact and I accept it. You can't help but notice when you go from getting a little bit of attention to none. I wish I'd made better use of what sexual value I did have when I had it. I'm over the hill.

She looks pretty cute with makeup when her hair is brunette,I just really hate how they presented her in that show. I mean I know makeup was forbidden but come on. Also I didn't love the way they did season two. Too melodramatic, it lost all plausibility.

"June get your shit,we have an escape route but you have to go NOW. NOW!"

"Oh cool, I'll just do a ten-minute hug-and-goodbye tour around the house and garden, hugs all around, and stop to write some dumb shit on a chalkboard, because women can't ever just get their asses in gear in a life-or-death-situation, amirite ladies?"

The whole second season made a mockery of femininity, I hated it. I'm surprised they didn't have her stop to primp her hair in front of the mirror on her way to escape.
Also they would not have killed Eden in Gilead, she was a fertile female so she would have been made an UnWoman, a Handmaid. A breeder.
Ugh.

It limits your options and yeah, it's definitely a disadvantage, but unless we're talking about the most extreme cases I wouldn't necessarily call it "life defining".
It's taken over my life and I'm certainly not "the most extreme",
but at the same time, I would never say that everyone and anyone's life is over because they're unattractive. That is too broad a statement and hurtful to those who may feel they can get through it.

It just depends how the issue effects the individual. For me, it's a big deal. I feel trapped behind my own face and body. Uncomfortable beyond comprehension.
For other people, they may not be so negatively effected by that type of misfortune.
Life is full of lotteries, losing one of them causes anything from mild distress to complete agony.
Exactly.
Take out loans and go get whatever "fixes" you think you need - hair implant, teeth straightening and whitening, lipo, nip tuck, whatever. If you plan on ctb anyway, what's a loan matter.

I've seen it make an incredible difference in a lot of people's lives, many of whom couldn't be in a good mindset before they were relieved of their physical detriments. It is a freedom people take for granted,
especially those who never lived without it.
We all know beautiful people can have problems, that doesn't change anything. That shouldn't invalidate that the lack of beauty truly effects another person so deeply.

Also surgery is so much more complicated than that unfortunately.
There is absolutely no guarantee, even with hardwork, research, time, and hefty funds thrown into it.
It doesn't always work..and it even goes wrong way more often than people know. Or it can just make someone look weird. Even if just one procedure goes a little wacky.
(Plastic/cosmetic surgery is nowhere near perfected.)
I'm talking about everyday people, not those fanatics who ask to look inhuman. A poor result can happen to anyone.
I hate that anyone has to be put in the position to want or need plastic surgery.
Once you step in, you may never get out.
You don't like Elisabeth Moss's face? :)

So untrue. So, so, so untrue.

I think Elisabeth Moss is quite attractive. She has unconventional features that could be called unattractive, but she also has objectively beautiful features, I think overall she draws the eye in a pleasant way.
If I looked like her, I wouldn't change anything. I'm sure I would have had to get over not being a classic beauty in the earlier years, but that's boring anyways.

Either way, at the end of the day, I just want to look like an attractive version of myself that I can connect with.
And that's not how it is.

This post is HiLARIOUS! You have REALLY put some thought into this! I really needed this comic relief. I've never seen an episode of "Handmaid's Tale," but your critique makes me want to start. Thank you so much for this wonderful post that made me cackle. Really appreciate it. Love to you, N-A-R.

For guys especially, you can be unattractive when young, but then become successful and women will be interested in you.

My opportunities went from almost nil in my teens to overlapping in my 30s.

If women notice that others treat you as important and you come across as confident, looks matter little. That may not be so for women under 20 or 25, but once they're looking for a mate, social status, income, character, etc are more frequently priorities.

lol. glad it made you smile. I analyze everything in such detail that it's almost impossible to enjoy any tv or movies, except I guess the analyzing is what I enjoy and people accuse me of "thinking too much" but it's effortless, it's just how I process everything. If you ask me about the weather today I'll give you a four-page essay about it.
Shrinks always tell me they just need to "find a med to slow down my thinking".
I go "you wanna make me slow like you, so you can keep up? Nah."
Those bitches make 150 an hour, of course they want everybody to talk and think slow. ;)
