Just waiting on a few issues to be resolved with my pension and I will know how much I can get my hands on or draw down as income. Should know by Oct at the latest.

Anyway.

Wild camping is totally legal in Scotland, not in England unless you do it on Dartmoor. But over the border, the only place that is restricted is around Loch Lomond and the Trosachs. You need a permit around there as far as I am aware. But that does not affect my dreams. I love the west coast of Scotland from about Ayr and all places north. Its wild and I love the outdoors and nature. Its also pretty damned deserted most of the time as well. I would also love to see more of the Hebredian islands which are also beautiful. My partner is not interested in upping sticks and heading off, so if it were to ever happen, it would be solo by the looks of it.

But I should be able to afford a good four season tent and the gear I would need for day to day tent living if the pension cash comes through. Just to tell the benefits agency to shove their fucking money and set off and go where I want, when I want, with no restrictions. Its my idea of heaven/nirvana, whatever you want to call it. I am hoping that with possible draw down, I can have a fixed income and know exactly what I have to live on. No fees to pitch a tent, ever, so all monies go to living costs. I am a decent cook, so thats no problem. New camping stoves are very economical and quick for things like boiling water, which can be the base of so many good recipes.

Then reality creeps in and I know its just pie in the sky, But a dead man can dream. Does anyone else have a dream they would like to share? I find it lifts the gloom a little sometimes to read something that is approaching positive.

Gets friggin cold sometimes in the winter around the highlands. Not great for slumming it in a tent. But on the coast, the temps stay up a little higher.

It's the place I want to go most in the world and I'll never get there.
But you can tell me whatever you want about it.

On the west coast, you get a little bit of everything that you would associate with Scotland. The islands are unbelievable and I have a few left to visit. Who knows, one day one of us might make it there..

My ultimate dream is to live in the Hebrides. Never see the sun again. In a tiny cottage with no other people on my island. Or maybe a few, but far away. Would take money though. Nothing there so you have to manage all supplies yourself and all that. Not sure Amazon delivers there, you probably get mail by boat every two weeks or something.

@SinisterKid a I have to say I thoroughly enjoy your posts and active succession of your profile pic. I assume we would be good friends in real life, albeit some really sarcastic comments and very "disturbing" conversations. I dig ya kid.

I think the place that gets the most sun in the UK is Coll, one of the Hebridian islands, so unless you close the curtains, you might get more sun than you bargained for. Yeah on the island, they are mainly served by ferries, with the odd plane that lands on a beach or a helicopter in emergencies. So Amazon and many other companies charge a small fortune to deliver to the Islands.

Also a fairly high atheist population (over 11%!), I'm gonna cry, I have to stop reading and listening to gaelic sound files.

Same dream as you OP but living in a hut in the Alps. A slow low bandwidth mobile internet connection would be great too, just enought to socialize 45m a day reading SS and playing D&D or some other game.

Thats how I would like to live the last year of my life if I have the chance. I do fear finding myself loving that lifestyle and having to forcefully CTB because Im running out of money or my health is worsening faster than I anticipated. I have money saved to support myself for a year.
