What a load of garbage. You aren't the least bit patriotic. America was built with aspirations for freedom and diversity. We just fucked up from the jump and it took time to correct leaving scars everywhere. Now this place has outgrown you. You should leave for a more repressive country where you respect others. No ones going to cry if such a hateful, racist attitude moves away.
Russia would be ideal for this person.

Also the racists who denigrate the African continent

If it is directed at me this is laughable and insulting. I'm not denigrating anything.
As someone who knows IRL the African continent, this is fucking insulting.

Now keep believing there is not more wars and poverty in Africa than in the rest of the world if you want.
Live in your delusion, what do you want me to say. Meanwhile, discrimination based on ethnicities is a reality in Africa.

Reality isn't what you see in hotels FFS. Westeners are so laughable sometimes. Angelism is the cause probably.
You're the perfect illustration of it.

Sigh. It's so sad that on a thread where POC discuss their experiences of racism and how it has contributed to their suicidality, racists just have to inject their intolerance. It just proves @RedEther's point: "Nowhere is safe."

This conduct has historically occurred on other threads too in which people describe the systemic disadvantages they have faced due to various factors, and more often than not, someone feels compelled to swoop in to invalidate them or contribute to these experiences.

Stop it. Let people have a safe space to share the realities of what they face. Let people speak without being belittled, talked over or told to "go back to where they came from." Let people share their pain and their truths, no matter how "uncomfortable" it makes their more privileged peers feel. That "discomfort" does not even remotely compare to the suffering those who experience systemic racism feel. If other people sharing their experiences makes you defensive, that's on you, not on the person who has suffered systemic abuse.

This is supposed to be a sanctuary for suicidal individuals of all races, abilities, ages, sexualities, genders, nationalities etc. It certainly doesn't feel safe right now.

I am sorry @RedEther. You deserved to be heard and respected. Other POC here deserve to feel heard and respected too, and safe to share.

Look, this is the first time I've ever been called this way in my entire life, I wasn't going to just shut up.
And aside from @Bullit I don't see any racist in that thread.

If people want a safe space, then stop calling people names just because it makes you feel good.

I wasn't specifically referring to you @Amumu. But it does sadden me that the thread went in this direction rather than being a safe space for POC to share their lived experiences, as it was intended to be.

I dont personally believe in censorship. While I dont condone racism in any shape or form, I believe if someone chooses to express their racism they shouldnt be silenced forcefully about it. That doesnt mean they shouldnt suffer the consequences of showing their true colors. Other people are free too to express their disgust and aversion to racism as a behaviour. The racist or bigot should have a voice even here and we are all adults and should accept and live with the fact that there are people who would hate us for nothing just being ourselves. The comment asking the racist to go kill themselves is very wrong because this is a suicide support forum where nobody should be coerced to ctb unless they themselves want to. I think the world would be a better place with absolute freedom of speech and expression as long as we are not inciting violence against innocent group or individuals. I dont want to be misunderstood here, i think racism is so backwarded and have no place in modern or future world but I dont think the answer to eradicate it is by silencing it. It should be allowed a voice or it would be repressed and festered which will increase tension when it finally finds an outlet like an extremist political party or organized mobs.

edit: Nobody brought up that racism isnt a white problem. It has existed and still does in all other countries. For example, racism directed towards Palestinian Arabs by Israelies or Japanese famous racism. Even racism directed towards whites in south africa and so on. It is a global problem and maybe is highlighted mostly in western countries but it sure is an unfortunate side effect about looking or being different

That's what happens when you mix racist people and deluded angelic people.

Btw I think making a thread about discrimination in general would have been more appropriate than a thread about "POC" because as mentioned above, discrimination happens worldwide and the causes are numerous. Just my two cents.

I think people should have a right to specifically share how racism has impacted them and not have to extend that to all types of discrimination.

I agree that there are numerous types of discrimination with varying causes, and I'm sure a thread generally discussing that could be useful. But this thread isn't about that. It's about race/experiences of POC. And it should have been a safe place for people to share how experiencing that has impacted their lives.

The term "POC" divides people and puts people of incredibly varied origins together at the same time, paradoxically.

I think one of my first threads on this site was about exactly this.

I'm in the US, and let me tell you, being black to any degree and seeing the bullshit occur here over the last two years reminds me why I've always hated my country. It's like... people on the outside supportive of POC in the US are under the impression that every race is united in its struggle, that they care for every member in its group... Only for POC groups to sweep their horrible colorisms under the rug as if it never happens, turning gaslighting into a sport whenever you speak up about your own race being extremely prejudice against you for your shade of skin or hair texture.

And like OP said - there really are times when it feels like nowhere is safe. Like, your normal becomes just that; paranoia and raised defenses on the default. Granted, it's nice knowing the shitty African American group isn't the only one with internal mayhem. But I also kind of don't want this shit to happen to anyone else.

I was smart once! ...I like to pretend, anyway. Just *being* in advanced classes in gradeschool was enough of a reason for other students to hate my guts. My skin color was too light, my hair color too... whatever the flavor of the day was. And then you see new mothers being BULLIED because their child came out a weird color.
???
African American genes are so fucked - literal sexual gymnastics happened in the earlier days, making it an absolute gamble when trying to predict your child's looks. Suppressed Irish genes made me come out with blonde and red hair. But I look like a genderbent clone of my father, and share every medical condition to boot. "Were you raised by a white family? Why do you act white?"

I've tried scrubbing the pigment out of my skin goodness knows how many times already as a child. :/
At this point, I just never leave the house, and tell everyone online that I'm some fictional character. Works well enough so far.

I really dislike POC as a term. It implies white people dont have a color which they do. Plus it insinuates that discrimination is a racism problem or its a white people problem which both are deeply untrue. Terms like that are just made up by media and our global elites to highlight things they want normal everyday people to get busy fighting over while they are busy robbing more wealth and power from us. This thread is just an example of their success at their divide and conquer strategy. It is genius to say the least

I've noticed that American blacks seem have developed their own chauvinism. I haven't seen this in Europe, probably because there's no "black identity" like there is in the US. Instead immigrants seem to keep to their national communities (somalis don't mix with ethiopians etc). This creates are more finely grained pluralism that prevents creating twisted American-style dynamics where everything is a race issue. But Europe is also seeing the slow creation of ghetto/gang/parallel culture because the integration policies are either useless or simply non-existent. Soon it will be a second US.

It's sad you've had to experience this and i relate to many of the things you mentioned.
I'm a bit of a weird mix, (black and something else i won't mention, too distinct it'll make me noticeable to people i know if they browse this).

But i grew up being told by white people that i'm not mixed race when my parents are from literal opposite ends of the earth. but because neither is white they don't consider that as a "mix". I also grew up being told i'm not "really black" because i grew up in a white area and i wasn't ghetto, yet i faced racism of all kinds due to my skin.

once i found pride in myself it changed my outlook, but shit was tough, I hated myself because other people told me too.

Shut your mouth after putting a gun in it you brainwormed idiot, people self-identifying what groups they're in and how they're being mistreated is not fucking "divisive," the only thing we need is to get absolute wastes-of-air like you out of the fucking way. THIS IS A PLACE FOR TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT THE OPPRESSION THAT DRIVES PEOPLE TO SUICIDE, AND BEING IN SOLIDARITY ABOUT THAT. NO PLATFORM FOR IDIOT BOOTLICKERS.

You're right, I'm sure an immigrant from Taiwan, a Mexican and a Congolese feel they have the same culture.

And they face the same difficulties, ofc.

Fuuuuuuuuuck! For fucks, fucking, fucks fucking sake!!! What the fuck happened?! Someone posts about being a person of colour and the racist fiends just fucking can't leave it alone. I can virtually perceive the salvation and foaming at the mouth early on in the thread.

I read the first post and felt that maybe my experience didn't quite cut it to contribute. It seemed ok to begin with, the main issue being the comprehension of the abbreviation "POC".

I had thought about contributing to the thread but didn't perceive my own mixed ethnicity to be sufficiently comparable.

I'm not black, but, to some people I'm not considered "white enough" either. I won't specify my genetic heritage as it might lead to unintended identifiable information.

But I've been called racial slurs, spat at, called names based on characters on not very politically correct, characters on TV. Being constantly taunted with their catchphrase every time I speak.

I've encountered baffling, and disturbing aggression from people for no apparent reason at all, just standing around minding my own business and been assaulted more times than I can count and hospitalised on at least 2 occasions.

As a result I have wondered over the years if this has been due to the fact that I quote: "Look foreign" or some more racist variant of this.

I've been told "to fuck off home" plenty of times. To be honest, if my grandmother's country of origin was my home I would happily move there in a heartbeat.

So that's my experience and I'm sure that to a large degree, it pales into insignificance compared to OP's.

Even if my experience doesn't qualify, I can tell you that all that vicious, violent behaviour impacted on me and made my state of mind all the worse.

So it stands to reason that their experience is likely to dwarf mine, and they have every right to express their absolute fury if they so wish!

Yes I'm black. I think racism might have indirectly cause me to come here? When I was in high school I want to say, they Trayvon Martin case was all over TV and it was my first time following a case so closely, and no I'm not here to rehash the whole case or any of those cases. Essentially after awhile, after watching many black folks including youngins get shot down by the cops, I just became bitter and stopped caring about those cases because I knew how it was always gonna end.
My parents though, they aren't suicidal and they grew up during Jim Crow and that fucked them up pretty badly. Oh shit my grandparents and ancestors too. I would not be surprised if we had a bunch of bus catchings among my ancestors during slavery.
Basically my answer is yes and it's not surprising. What is surprising is that black women have among the lowest suicide rates in America and it baffles me that we don't CTB far more often.
