For the people that claim that SaSu is dangerous and causes people to CTB

Just by looking at the numbers, supposedly there's around 500 goodbye threads on this site. I don't know if this is accurate but if SaSu has been around since March 2018 (that's the earliest post I could find, maybe it's been around for longer), that's 8 years. Out of 65,447 registered users that's a rate of 95 per 100,000 per year which is 10x the rate of suicide globally.

But a quick google search states that the rate of suicide for a MH illness such as bipolar is 10 to 30 times higher than average. I'm not saying everyone on SaSu is bipolar, but you could make the case that people that have gone through the trouble of signing up on SaSu are either struggling with a mental health issue or difficult life circumstances or both. Either way they're more likely to CTB than the average person. Are they 10x more likely to compared with the average person? Could very well be.

This is not taking in consideration all the people that CTB on this website without making a thread, but I think the numbers are overall fairly low for a website that allegedly 'drives people to CTB'

People will take one look at the website and immediately write it off as the site that encourages people to die. If it weren't for this site, I'd probably have attempted already (and in a very unsafe manner that would likely leave me with medical issues). None of them want to actually understand how we think and feel, they just want everyone to keep their issues private and not bother anyone, that way when a person kills themself, they can say that they had no idea why they would do it.

i mean lots of people die without posting...
but people here are in pretty much hardcore si population too so kinda hard to know if we lower the population that ctb or not. maybe we should comper it to si population .
i think it is more belief based rather than some fact, kinda hard to make an ethical study about this site too.

what we know for sure that they prefer we die in silence rather seeing the truth

yep same. if i wouldnt found this site i was planning to buy a lot of opiods.

but the good bye threads doesnt mean anything. i bet there are plent of people that went without a good bye thread.

the speed of mental health care is not helping aswell. people think they can magicly fix people but they don't
current society and AI are certainly not helping to it. there are plenty of reason even outside diagnoses to CTB imho

That is true. But after googling to see how many suicides have been linked to the forum by the police regardless of whether they made a goodbye thread or not the numbers are still close within this range. And when looking at those numbers you'd have to expand the total number of users since I've only taken the registered users into account, there's hundreds of thousands of people that have access to the forum but don't have an account, and this would significantly lower the rate.

I'm not claiming to have made an ethical study on Sasu, but at first glance at least, this site hasn't risen the likelihood of suicide of people accessing it, if you assume that this population is already at risk.

I do admit however that I am sometimes uncomfortable with the age of some people on here. I'm afraid kids can just check the box to say they're over the age of 18 and get access to the site.

Wait a minute- were evil
But seriously people like that are really just doing harm by tryna remove helpful resources that in all likelihood save more than kill. Theres plenty of threads by people who got better and then moved on and people who did that but silently. They just distract from real issues like lack of Healthcare, housing, food, employment opportunity, etc. Not saying fixing those will erase suicide but we'd all be a lot less fucking stressed if we could sulk in our lonesome without fear of hunger, homelessness, or lack of access to therapy and antidepressants.

if anything, SaSu gives people resources to ctb safely. and not only that, there is a strong sense of community here. i've honestly felt better and much less suicidal within the first week or so i've been posting on this site, despite knowing about it for years before i ever made an account. at least people go away without any long lasting harm, and/or knowing that people will be thinking about them if they post a goodbye thread. the issue with this world is the lack of mh resources and people around to support us, not SaSu. SaSu is a side effect of how the world treats people like us.

Absolutely! I've never seen such a pleasant and comfortable community. I'm usually very nervous about expressing myself in any way in public, but here I feel absolutely no anxiety when writing a post or leaving a comment

I have found this forum very supportive of people having mental health issues. I've tried to offer words of comfort when I could. I was having a difficult time and I got a private message from someone who said just what I needed to hear. The way the media portrays this site is all the posts here are people saying they want to CTB and all the replies are saying "Go for it! Here are the exact steps." That couldn't be further from the truth.
