Favorite things about where you live?

I don't and can't get out of the house much but I do like hearing about how life is outside if places like mine. I realize there's always something bad about every place in the world but I know there's good things too.

While being mindful about giving away your location and/or identity on here (pictures are welcome but please learn to delete metadata and realize that Google Lens is now very good at figuring out city locations from pics), what's something you love/like or is your favorite thing about where you live?

For me, it's how beautiful everything looks by the beginning of May with flowers all over the place and a warm but not too hot yet sun.

like how the city is organized. It's very clean, there's not much visual pollution, and it's huge. So when I leave the house, I feel it's more comfortable to walk through the streets—in the afternoon, of course, because I hate being in too much sun and I don't like walking around at night.

i live somewhere urban-suburban which smells really, really good at the beginning of autumn around september/october. in other US states, I havent experienced the same smell around the same time, so Im pretty sure its a unique combination of the specific pollutants, flora, and the households around me lol.

also, there are a lot of independent rescues for feral cats, run by a singular person each and accomplishing crazy numbers of TNR and rehab/rehoming every year. i love the animal lovers here.

I like how small it is. I hate urban areas and can't really stand being in places with more than 15,000 people. With less people there's less crime. People trust each other here, we see familiar faces. I live in a city where people are fine with leaving their car running for long periods of time unattended. Not something that could be said about some of the other nearby cities with large populations. I don't need a bunch of flashy entertainment venues, just a grocery store, clinic, and a restaurant or two. A lot of people get caught up in needing to live in a huge city because they need to have all of this stuff to do, but I never really understood it. I certainly would never want to deal with the sheer volume of people and traffic and smell.

We've also got lots of cool lakes with sandy beaches and forests you can hike in if you like doing that. A few places that you can hunt as well, though I haven't in many years. Sometimes in June I like to go around the parks and walk around the forests and lakes. It's nice.

Similar to mine, just without the beaches and lakes. Also everything I need grocery wise to get is only a 5-40 minute walk away so I don't have to use a bus/get a lift. Also barely any noise which can get frustrating.

You're not a fan of the quiet? I wish I lived in a quiet place, but sadly where I live there's always the drone of cars which doesn't bode well with my misophonia. Wish we could trade places.

I live on the east coast in the woods. The best thing for me here are the early morning hours when I'm sitting outside smoking a cigarette. Every morning or other morning, I get 7 or 8 deer that comes wandering through my front yard. Sometimes they'll stop and eat at some of the vegetation, sometimes they move on without stopping.

They are so used to seeing me, they no longer consider me a threat and will sometimes come toward me, but stop once they get so close.

Once I was able to hand feed a deer at my parent's lake cabin many years ago. It was one of the best things I've ever experienced. Try giving them food, over time they'll begin to trust you, and maybe some day they'll even eat out of your hand like they did with me.

Ooh I love deer. We get them here too. Tons of them in Spring and Early winter. There's always at least one mama deer with a set of twin babies so there must be a gene for that in the population.

We had one doe here years ago that would do that. She would take veggie scraps from our hands or just chill near our house. She was a real sweet girl and very elderly and grey. One day she came and she was just so tired. It was the last day we saw her in the summer and she was perfectly content to just lay under the trees near the house to keep cool. We never saw her again. I think she must have passed soon after that. I hope her passing was peaceful though I know she probably was alone.

At some homes I've lived in around here, you can step out onto the street and it'll be dead silent, no matter what time of day. Even in suburban areas. It's quiet and there's not a whole lot of people here, I kind of like it but it depends. It's also very lonely and isolated here.

The snow. Every snowfall is magical, especially at night. The snow absorbs noise so everything is quiet for a time, and the snow also reflects light so even at 10pm it's not totally dark out. As someone who feels dead all the time, I also like how all the plants are dead. It makes me feel more "at home"; spring puts me in a foul mood because there's too much dissonance between my dead soul and the life growing around me.

It's pretty rare for a large city to get so much snow (there's a permanent thick layer from December to February), so I'm grateful for that at least.
