What does "positive pressure environment" mean?
@everyone:

1) in this thread, I read that you need 600 liters of N2. Others say you need 225 liters (not compressed). So how much do you need?
2) if 600 liters: how do you even carry this in your house? its extremely heavy
Positive pressure environment simply means an area witch has a greater gas pressure than the surrounding area. This concept is used in operating rooms to keep air flowing outward, not inward to keep germs out. It doesn't mean you're trying to make the positive pressure EXTREMELY positive, just enough to keep gas flowing out, not in.

1, You would need 20cf of gas, which translates to 600L (rounded up); however, it takes on an average of 20min at 15LPM (300L) to fully succumb to the effects of the gas. The balance of 300L is your margin of error at over 100%.
2. 600L of N2 in a cylinder weighs only 4kg (8lbs) which is not unreasonable to lift. Kindly note that I am assuming the cylinder is made of aluminum. Stainless steel of course will weigh a lot heavier.

For a cylinder specification table, please refer to my Jan 24th entry on my blog.

Cheers!

Perhaps you were looking at the weight of 600L of LIQUID nitrogen.
Now that would be extremely heavy.

Where I live, i can only buy <200 liters cylinders. So I have to buy 4 x 200 liter cylinders. How can I connect four 200 liter cylinders? I know there are valves to connect two cylinders. But are there also valves to connect 4 cylinders?

I have bought an argon gas cylinder (10 litres), a regulator and special mask which i connected with a car valve to the regulator.

I have tried to smell the argon and indeed it didn't taste like anything.

Now here is an interesting question:

What happens in the last few seconds of you still having conscioness? Will i feel pain/headaches? Will i grasp for air?

I had a surgery before where the surgeons put some anesthesic in front of my nose 20 years ago and i didn't anything at all but they needed 2 tries to put me to sleep.

Will it be similar to that?

The photo of the hood appears to include both a respirator and a hose inlet. Please ensure that the respirator has a one-way valve built into it. I cannot tell from your photo. Best!

I connected a car/bike valve to the metallic filter that you can see on the first picture - this is where the argon will be comming through into the hood.

The hood also has another valve down there for letting out air during breathing as you can see here in this picture.

What do you think?

True. But maybe there's a way to modify the bag? It's really only the fact that it's so close to my face. Hell, everytime I breath in, the bag was so close it was getting inside my mouth.

Something that creates space between the face and bag. Something like a baseball cap. But not that of course. It's too impractical.
I have heard it suggested that you can use one of those standard white painting/dust masks while in the bag, to keep the plastic from touching your mouth and nose

Hi Greenberg,
Thanks for putting together all the information on your blog. At this point I'm trying to find more people's thoughts on the products made by EM. Are there any threads here about it? I don't have the capability to search yet.

I am also new here, and thankful for all the information that has been presented in this thread. I am glad to see Greenberg here steering the discussion, as it seems that several of the original posters are no longer with us.

I reside in Ontario, Canada, and am seeking information on how to acquire the necessary equipment in my area. A lot of the items posted in this megathread are no longer available. Sourcing Nitrogen/Argon here seems to be a little tricky. If anyone has advice on this, it would be appreciated.

Is the helium tank heavy or light? I read that its not heavy but im not sure how heavy it is? Please share who knows

also anyone knows how to measure the purity of the gas inside? Cause i have to confirm beforehand i its truely pure as the seller might not fully trusted

That escape hood has a respirator filter which is not the most appropriate. you might wish to compare that to what is being offered at escmode. best!

I found a guide on how to use that hood, that's why i bought it.

Translation:

Method nitrogen with mask

78% of the air we breathe contains nitrogen (nitrogen). I like that the body knows this gas. Nitschke et al. have switched to nitrogen, which may also be due to the fact that in some countries pure helium (not the usual balloon gas) is difficult to obtain.

Shopping List:

A 5l nitrogen bottle filled with 200 bar pressure.
A nitrogen pressure reducer with flow meter (best brand = Rhön).
A compressed air bottle 200 bar, 5l (for practicing).
A simple pressure reducer / manometer for this bottle.
Two 6 mm nozzles should not be included with the pressure reducers.
2x a 6mm hose to connect the mask when you are in a good sitting position.
Some hose clamps 2 0hr, 7-9 mm.
A can of leak spray to check the connections for leaks.
All of this is available at Gase Dopp
Two fire escape hoods from Dräger. Model: "Parat Trainingshood, label:" For Training only ". The single pack in a box is sufficient. Because of Corona z. Unfortunately a bit expensive at the moment.
Available on the internet or in good specialist shops.
Two hoses, as usual with wheelbarrow wheels, bent valve. (You only need the two 6 mm valves, it is the same size as the bicycle tube.)
Tesa textile tape to fix the valves on the masks.
Adhesive: rubber / metal, superglue is also possible.
A three-wire garden water hose, the very flat one for easy rolling up, also popular with campers. You only need about 30 cm of it.
You can get it all in the hardware store

The preparations for this system are more laborious compared to the described helium method. If everything has been judged and practiced, the finals can be quite easy.
First of all, you may want to prepare the masks:

The Dräger fire escape hoods each have a tight-fitting inner mask that is held in place by a 'cap', a stretchy textile fabric. The outer hood should then close everything in addition to the neck. The front hood can be removed from the mounting sleeve for assembly purposes
.
The valve from the wheelbarrow hose is to be glued to the front hole (about 1.3 cm in size). Inside you can still see a small tin. Leave it as it is. It serves to distribute the incoming N so that it doesn't shoot you right in the nose.

You cut the valve out of the hose in such a way that a circle is created from the rubber that fits well on the hood in its dimensions. The vulcanized valve in the rubber tube remains as it is.
Now you still have to unscrew the 'soul' inside the valve, with needle-nose pliers or a small tool like those used by cyclists. You only want the 6 mm tube.
Now you can glue the valve in the middle of the hole in the hood. The valve wobbles a little in its rubber. So eagerly cover everything with tape. The scoop can then be put back into its rubber sleeve on the mask. Finished.
Testing: Pull the mask completely onto your face (see instructions below), hold the valve tube with one finger - is the mask tight?
Now the gas bottle has to be straightened. The pressure reducer is completely assembled and only needs to be screwed onto the bottle with its large union nut. Check the tightness with the leak spray.

The mask and bottle can now be connected to one another with the 6 mm hose. Push the hose onto the nozzle and valve and secure each with a hose clamp, squeeze the clamps together with combination pliers or pump pliers.

You will also need larger pliers to open the main valve on the gas cylinder, which is quite stiff.

The kit with the compressed air cylinder (for practicing and familiarizing yourself) is also assembled. You can also have the compressed air cylinder refilled in a diving shop. You can also disconnect the second exercise mask from the supply hose and practice effectively with the mask alone, e.g. in front of the mirror. B.

Now you can still consider the CO2 problem. In contrast to the helium method described, there is a certain risk of muscle twitching, but only after the person has become unconscious. Compare the YouTube clip on stunned pigs with helium and the article on gas mixtures here at LF 8 (2).

Even if it is no longer supplied with oxygen, the body converts a large amount of existing 0 into CO2. When you exhale, an N + CO2 mixture can initially form in the mask. At the beginning, as much CO2 as possible should be exhaled to the outside.

You do this with a small hose, approx. 30 cm long, which you cut from the garden hose reel you bought and split lengthways with a kitchen knife so that only 2 of the three veins remain. Make the two-core piece nice and smooth too. You want to slide it under the mask, which brings a certain amount of leakage with it.

So you put the tube in your mouth before you put on the mask. And then: nose in - breathe out forcefully through the tube in your mouth. Even when the mask is on, you breathe out vigorously through the tube about three times while nitrogen is already flowing in. No fear! There is still quite a bit of oxygen in your body to begin with.
Then you slowly pull the tube out of your mouth and mask again and, if it still works, check that the mask fits properly again. The rubber lips of the inner mask will nestle against your face without any problems.

If there is a small leak, this is not a problem. Even if the body should still absorb 5% oxygen, hypoxia occurs. The N flows in strongly from above.

However, it should be noted: do not wear a beard and the hair on the head must not reach back to the neck. The check valve incorporated by Dräger will now do its job.
Practicing the entire story will make you more confident and you may discover improvements. Here are two more to-do lists as I wrote them down:

Steps I: Put on the hood
1. Insert the two-wire water hose into your mouth and hold it with your teeth. Practice 3 times: breathe in your nose, breathe out your mouth.
2. Roll up the ruff of the hood. Grasp the mask with both hands above the ruff and initially just pull it in front of the forehead. Is she sitting in front of your face? Check the non-return valve below for correct seating. Everything very calmly and slowly. Eyes and nose are still free. Check: Are the ears close and halfway in? Does the ruff fit well on the neck?
3. The mask should now be placed in front of the face - first put the right thumb on the right temple, then the left thumb on the right temple in the hood and pull it over to the left. Thumbs are on both temples.
4. Pull down the hood. Check the fit of the inner mask - lift the inner mask off the face with both hands on the hood and straighten it. Check: Chin well in place? Is the ruff on? Everything is very calm! You have time.
5. You can now practice two things: a) The mask is not yet connected; the inlet valve is mounted at the front, but remains open. Amazingly, you will still be able to draw in enough air through the 6mm valve opening. So just practice inhaling and exhaling. b) You connect the compressed air cylinder in a second exercise and practice the entire finale.
6. When practicing without the bottle connected, you can easily check the tight fit of the inner mask by holding the inlet valve. As long as you have the kl. If you hold the tube in your mouth to breathe out, it will not be completely tight. So also practice pulling out the hose slowly and continuing to breathe. A small leak is not a problem. The ruff of the hood also seals at the bottom.

Steps list II: The finale

1. The kit is fully assembled and placed. The flow meter is easily accessible. Open the main tap on the N bottle. The flow meter remains closed. Does the pressure gauge show enough pressure? Min. 180 bar (!)
2. Assume your sitting position, possibly strap your legs in.
3. Put on the hood, following the list of steps I.
4. Check the inner mask again for a good fit. Chin good? At first there is still enough remaining air in the mask to straighten everything out in peace! Does the mouth tube sit comfortably and firmly in the mouth?
5. Exhale again very deeply, slowly open the flow meter and continue to breathe deeply. (CO2 has to get out) The stopper in the measuring glass of the flowmeter bounces a bit at the beginning and should come to rest just above the setting.
Therefore attach a marker. SET to 20 to 22 (= liters / min.)
As I said, the briefly present nitrogen-air mixture does nothing. The hypoxia doesn't have to be particularly rapid. Even a short respiratory arrest does nothing. Exhale about 3 more times deeply through the hose, then pull it out slowly.
6. The mask should now fit snugly.
You have enough time !! Most of the CO2 that is still exhaled now goes out through the R valve. It takes at least 15 breaths to become unconscious = a full minute. possibly also two.
Lie quietly and relaxed. Never breathe hectically !!
Multiple organ failure after about 30 minutes.
It is good to have a dying companion with you. He / she can e.g. B. Document your "offense" via video and intervene in an emergency. Note the following:
- Align DGHS papers beforehand (no obligation to guarantee, etc.).
- You can still cancel in the first two minutes.
- After five minutes the brain damage is irreparable.
- Gas supply, manometer and flow meter - everything is within the normal range?
- Control any muscle twitching
So much for the noble gas methods presented. Another very effective method is the well-known method of poisoning with carbon monoxide, i.e. the charcoal grill in the sealed bathroom. Before doing this, switch off the smoke alarms in the apartment and measure the CO level achieved with a technically superior device, of course only as a visual display.
There are other good methods as well. See the literature listed. Ultimately, being able to say "I have a good feeling about this" plays an important role.
You will likely and understandably be nervous about the finale. If you're used to alcohol, you may find yourself getting drunk a little beforehand. Or you take a sedative, a boosted dose of a benzodiazepine, or something. The Z-preparations (sleeping pills) hardly calm you down.

If you are doing this in a building that has other occupants, you are putting them at risk. Also, a sign on the door should warn first responders to lethal CO inside the room, that way they will be warned to wear PPE before entering the room.

Trying to get my supplies organized. I am on the path of a full face scuba mask method as from what I am gathering is that this could be the most safest of all methods involving nitro. I have read some of the Greenberg blog and slowly getting my head around all the info. I have no experience with diving\scuba so do have a steep learning curve. I have been set on nitro\exit bag method for some time and when I came across Stickstoff method I felt that this is a easier (albeit expensive) as there are less moving parts in this setup or am I fooling msyself in beliving this? I have some learning to do but feel I need to start working on my supplies to give me some comfort and I was about to place order for the cylinder below but thought will check here first.
I am thinking this 10L (does this equate to 1000 ltrs of nitro?) should be more than enough.
Price seems too low for a cylinder and the gas at £31.96 (USD $45) am I reading this wrong?

Hi, the total price seems about right if the cylinder is rented. The cylinder if purchase will cost around $100. Incidentally, nitrogen is dirt cheap. Oh, 10L is more than sufficient. Best!

I think I will look to purchase outright. Is there a difference in a Aluminum and a steel cylinder? Aluminum is obviously lighter in weight so easy to maneavour but is there a issue with amount of gas and the pressure Aluminum can handle against Steel?

My personal preference is aluminum but it is more expensive. Aluminum when alloyed is equally as strong as steel so there is no issue with containment. I would suggest though that you consider purchasing a valve guard with your cylinder for added safety. Please feel free to PM me should you have additional questions. Best!

I've never felt so dumb as I feel reading this thread :D
I can't understand shit about fuck but seems a very peaceful method. I'd try if I had the time to hunt for all the materials and wrap my head around the instructions.
Hope y'all get to ctb in peace

Are there many confirmed ctb via the inert method we know of here?
From what i can see It seems more people ctb via SN despite investigating the inert gas method.
