I lite one grill in a garage that is about the size of a bedroom but with a high ceiling. I have a CO detector that goes up to 1000ppm. I got a reading up to 800ppm 10 minutes after lighting the grill. As soon as I put it out with water it was down to 32ppm. 800 is the the least that is considered lethal. "Healthy adults will have nausea, dizziness and convulsions within 45 minutes. Unconsciousness within 2 hours and then death".

I prefer to have much higher levels
• 3,200ppm is lethal in 30min
• 6,400ppm is lethal in <15min
• 12,800 is lethal in <3min

I have another grill on the way. What are your suggestions on getting the ppm over 1,000?

More charcoal. This method is unreliable for a quick exit. Good luck in your attempt, let us know how it goes.

Everything less than 2.500 ppm for at least 3 hours is insane. Even then you have a 50:50 chance for a failure do tue several reasons.

I agree. 2500 should be the minimum to be effective. Anything less and your just risking brain damage and other organ damage. Be smart, research and plan ahead.

Is there any reason you've opted for this method? It doesn't seem like a great way to go...

Could you list the reasons. I know one is being discovered too soon.

I thought it was after I read a few case studys on the method.
Here's the link:
It only cost me $163 in materials as I am broke but don't want to wait. I have fireproof caulk for sealing the room, 2 grills, lighter fluid, CO detector, lighter cubes, chimney starter and charcoal briquettes (specifically Royal Oak because they stay lit longer).
During the dry run, I found the fire and the smell of the grill to feel relaxing, in fact people die by accident this way because they're unaware of the undetectable gas.

My ignorance on the method is what made that come to mind, so forgive me.

It does seem that CO poisoning is a peaceful way to go if carried out under the right circumstances. Though, I'm not sure I'd want to risk a method with so many variables as the idea of failing and being left with serious permanent damage is a massive concern of mine.

I've always thought that drinking N would be the best way to go, but when I recently became more serious about CTB I discovered SN and that became my method of choice. Mainly due to its availability followed by its effectiveness. Plus I really don't fancy the risk of getting scammed for N or paying an extortionate price to exit this place... 😅

Anyhow, hopefully you find a reason to stick around; if not, good luck with whatever you decide to do! 🙂

I appreciate your input because all this b gs must be considered. It's how we have eachothers backs on here 😊 I've found SN to be an option but throwing up would be an ironic way to given I've had bouts of bulimia. I bought a generator and plan to do it in a car. What are your thoughts on that?

Thought about this method for a long time, one final good night few drinks and a few smokes, then eat some stuff from barbecue then get into tent with it. Would be ideal way to go if nothing went wrong.

i failed with the method about 2 months before , in a 220 sqfeet room , i closed all the ventilations bought 4 kg of char_coal bri_quettes took a lot of time to get it to light used an lpg torch , i lit it in an aluminium bucket all at once it was burning there was smoke as well . it was about 2:00 AM in the morning . within half an hour i felt difficulty in breathing there was smoke in the room . i drank 5 pegs of rum and went to sleep hoping i would never wake up . woke up at 2pm the same day with extreme migraine ( dont know it was hangover or c_o ) on the floor struggling to breathe . only had little impairment , i opened up the windows fell on the floor and slept for like 2 hours more to wake up feeling perfectly normal just with migraine . no brain damage

i wanted to get a C_O meter in the range 10000 ppm but its costs like 1000 USD far far beyond than what i could ever afford .

I have a friend who failed this method back in 2007. Did it in a very small side garage, maybe 8×6 or smaller.

He ended up giving himself 3rd degree burns and spent months in the hospital. His family found him after he'd kicked the grill over having a seizure and he'd set the garage on fire. He spent over a semester in the burn unit before I saw him again.

A lot can go wrong with this method.

AFIK he never tried to ctb after that though.

Im sorry for your struggles. I have am considering other methods because of the CO's unreliability. I found a CO meter that test for up to 10,000 for $400 on Amazon. It takes 2 weeks to ship though.

What about in a closed car in the desert?
I've heard of stories where it worked in a car but also where it failed- I think it can't be burning but still needs to be hot- you would want to research other threads for details.
