Hi,

I don't know if you are already familiar with this case of fatal intentional SN poisining. I haven't seen it anywhere on this forum (especially in the PDF with gathered scientific reports), so I thought I might post it here...

This article is relatively new, as it was published in June 2020. It describes a case of a man who ctb'd using SN. Also, drugs containing metoclopramide and ranitidine were found next to his body, so there's a high probability that he was familiar with the protocol suggested on this site. The thought that he might have read this forum in the past somehow makes me uneasy. :(

Anyways, the conclusion that can be drawn is that this method definitely works...

WARNING:

This article contains real photos from post-mortem examination, showing cyanotic body. They might be considered graphic, so I suggest not opening the article if you're sensitive to such content.

Here's the link:

Thank you for sharing. I wonder if he was one of the group members. I certainly had no concept of SN before coming here.

I suppose its not mean to be a public document. And the photo are for showing the effect on the body.

Having in mind how popular SN is on this forum, these photos could make some people reconsider the method.
If one worries about family members finding his/her body, such an image is not less traumatic than any other gruesome method... quite the contrary.
The body looks like the shirts bought at rave festivals.
Maybe in your notes to your loved ones you should write that all this discoloration happens once you lose consciousness... or they'll think you really suffered.

Not a pretty image, in no case "easier" than a blown head or a jump from a building.

I guess so, here's what it says on the last page :
Ethical approval
All procedures were performed according to the ethical and legal standards of the institution and the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. This study did not require informed written or oral consent from the victims' families since this is a scientific research conducted during routine forensic procedures.

I mean if one of the tests to see if it's SN is by seeing if it will turn your blood brown. If it turns a little bit of blood brown, imagine what your whole body will look like.

I am interested in the effects of sodium nitrite on the body. It appears similar to the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning.

CO and SN ultimately cause tissue hypoxia which leads to death. They do this by not allowing oxygen molecules to bind with the circulating hemoglobin in blood.

Methemoglobin (MetHB) arises when the iron component in hemoglobin is oxidised so that it is in the ferric state (Fe3+). MetHb is unable to bind oxygen and therefore cannot participate in respiratory function.

Carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) is formed when carbon monoxide (CO) binds to the ferrous iron found in haemoglobin. Haemoglobin's affinity for CO is 218 times greater than that for oxygen (O2), which results in CO displacing O2 during competition for haem binding sites.

I read some case studies and looked in a few journals. I was most interested in seeing the MRI results showing hypoxic brain injury present after CO poisoning.

I did find one case study of SN poisoning at a 92% methemoglobin level, showing the hypoxic brain injury in the structurs of the deep grey matter on an MRI. The MRI results look the same, or very similar to what you would expect to see in someone having severe CO poisoning.

I thought the same when I saw the photos for the first time. I wasn't prepared for it, most reports don't include photos, so it was quite a shock for me as well...

I was wondering about the looks of the body and I guess the way it looks depends on the time which has passed since death. The article doesn't mention it, but it says the man was found in a car. The photos, in turn, were taken during forensic examination. I don't know if it's a worldwide rule, but by law in my country the minimum time between pronouncing someone dead by a doctor (let's say it was the moment the man was found) and conducting post-mortem examination is 12 hours. So all the signs of death may have had plenty of time to appear.

I'm not sure, it's only a guess, but I think it's also possible that the victim's body already started to decompose. During this process, proteins break down and gases are released by the tissues, which causes the body to swell. This is the reason why decomposing bodies often look as if they were fat, even though the person could have been slim when alive.

Maybe when found quickly, the body won't look that dramatic, or I'm just kidding myself... I guess despite all that I said, the traumatic image is inevitable. Cyanosis is an inherent part of this method, and it occurs especially around lips and fingers, the parts of the body which are rarely covered with clothes.

I'm sorry if my message sounds harsh and unemotional, English is not my first language and it seems I have difficulty writing about death in a more euphemistic manner, although I'd really like to. :(

Even with hanging you can look like shit. Most videos and pictures I've seen their faces are swollen, tongues swollen and looking pretty blue around the gills. Is there a way of leaving a beautiful looking corpse?

As @Remember_Me stated above your face would be arguably worse than his if you were to do full suspension.

There is no death that is cosmetically pleasing, but atleast this one is less traumatic for the one who chooses to do it themself.

I bought primperan and ranitidine very easily of that popular market site as well as the SN, however, that site doesn't appear to sell it anymore. I suggest using the search function with your country to find out the best way to get it

I mean the state of the body probably depends of the time of body decomposition. Everyone looks ugly when they're dead. At least all the few corpses I have seen with my own eyes were ugly. So however you die, it won't be like in movies.

To those bothered by or concerned about the appearance of the body.... Death will not be pretty no matter how we die. Suicide isn't pretty, but on the positive side if the body is found soon after death it won't look nearly that bad. The other good news is we would not be there to see our decomposing bodies. Just leave a note on the door to spare loved ones.

I don't think so. If you found some way to flash freeze yourself at the moment of death you might be able to stop decay from setting in, but I doubt even that would look beautiful.

My own thoughts have always been to try and make sure my loved ones aren't the ones to find the body. Picking a deeply wooded area far from home might do it.

So what effects do you notice if using this method? Do you go unconscious, fight for breath, fall asleep, choke. Personally I don't care what I look like after the fact, I care about what I'm going through during.

thank you for explaining all of that. I have advanced for age emphysema. I remember a time my lungs were acting up. I was tingly all over and a touch dizzy. Respiratory came, took blood did a breathing treatment. I was sitting in my er hospital bed and people were walking by looking into my room. Respiratory tech cam eback in and said ya see the doctors checking you out we are trying to figure out how you are talking. Your COHb is 37% thats what we find in people unconscious in a fire! I've also had hypoxia as well. I was curious about this in relation to SN.

Being a nitrite (highly potent vasodilator) a headache would seem to be a reasonable expectation to occur after consuming the SN. ?
