This is kind of dumb but I can't have rope delivered to my house because I don't leave alone-- will employees question why I'm only buying rope at a store? For reference I'm a young adult (f)

Employees don't care, they just want to do their jobs and go home.

How will they even see what's in the package unless you open it in front of them? Or will someone come in and hand you the rope without a package?

If they see it, if they even care, if someone's curiosity/nosiness steps up, tell them you are learning to tie knots for when your sailboat arrives next week. Or you have decided to learn how to rope livestock. Go into an elaborate explanation about how you line up chairs, how twirling a big lasso broke your celing fan (Oops!). Then laugh, roll your eyes, and walk away. If they haven't already left.

Actually, if someone asks you a question, your best response may be, "Why do you ask?" Then shut up. Most people will be embarassed, make an excuse and leave.

What a great idea. Perfect for none of your business questions.

MG,

Probably.

Oh! @OP! How bout telling the questioner, in a rather tense attitude something like, "Man, I have to load up a bunch of junk from my hoarder grandmother's house and haul it to the dump. The rope is to tie it all down. Are you busy on (name a day, preferably a weekend)?" And "Do you have a pickup I could borrow?"

They have no right to ask you questions about what you're buying and what you're gonna use it for. Their job is just to sell it to you.

Don't think about it too much about it cause I'm sure they won't care anyway.

Also if the store has a self checkout I would definitely go about using that instead of a real cashier if you're still nervous about it.
