My response. Hell, I don't know. If one believes in existentalism - which I tend to favor - then it is up to us to find what keeps us "motivated" to keep living. For some, it's family, for others it's the value they find in the jobs, or the purpose they find in a goal.
Other philosophies have theology or science as the underlying purpose.
I don't believe there is going to be any great epiphany for the general population. Finding ones purpose is primarily a lonely and at at times frustrating endeavor. I wish I had better answers but this one is way above me.....Because of the things we like. It's entirely subjective, but most of us has at least something that we simply like.
Personally I have lots of things that each bring some value.

For me it's to build a life with the people I care about and also experience the things I enjoy like nature, there is so much to see with it and it basically never ends. I want everyone to appreciate nature because when you do it can bring such a joy to your life finding all the beautiful things. That's also why bird watching is popular, it gives you a goal when you start looking to see if you can find all the birds.
