i feel like a mental block i cant get over is self-pity and self blame. im preventing my own recovery. so many people have "gotten over" the same type of trauma, even in my own life. i'm not strong.

Well i mean i wasn't able to get over mine. Traumas are not easy to deal with and the people that say they easily got over it probably didn't even have a real one

People don't get over it. They box and shelve it, lock it in a dark room and cry when no one's around, and try very hard to never ever think about it, so they can fake normal.
Fucked up inside is normal. And maybe it always was.

Naturally sounds like you may be suffering from PTSD. It's a horrible disorder and for some there's no escape as it lingers and can pop up years later when you thought you conquered it. Have you sought someone out to gauge the situation?

Trauma isn't something that you can easily overcome. It becomes a part of you and takes over. It actually changes the wires in your brain.

My trauma massively affects me in my functioning and daily life to this day yet not really anyone I know has any idea as to the full extent, if at all. Trauma isn't something someone can simply 'get over', it's just that everyone processes and shows symptoms of their trauma differently, some more outwardly and some more internalised than others.

Many conditions caused by trauma are also inherently internalised and hidden for the majority of people experiencing them. Subconsciously masking and coming up with ways of coping, often without even realising, can become part of daily life for some people who experienced trauma. Resulting in them being able to put on an outward display of being 'okay' and having made a good recovery from the event/s, when in reality they may be doing horribly mentally and feel unable to express those emotions and thoughts for many potential reasons.

With that being said, I hope you're able to find healthy ways of processing your own personal trauma and if you're able to it's always worth at least trying to find a decent therapist specialising in PTSD (which it sounds like you could be experiencing) to see if they can help at all. Even if you don't believe that therapy would work for you or that you're in a place to commit to something, it's worth seeing if just having someone safe to talk to about things in real life could help. Either way, wishing you the best OP.

please don't blame yourself, trauma isn't something you just "get over" per se. it's very difficult to deal with/work through and many others struggle with it as well, you're not alone

People around me who've experienced traumatic events but don't seem to let it bother them on a day to day basis.

Hiding what you're going through may not be easy, but is is very possible. Just because it doesn't "seem" to bother them on a day to day basis doesn't mean it doesn't bother than at all. Something not "seeming" to be what it may be is simply your perception.

Many people suffer silently. I've been in a turmoil of emotions many times and but no one noticed since I was silent and kept to myself, so no one was able to perceive it.

I can't get over mine either, and it wasn't even that bad compared to some on here. In fact, It mutated into early onset schizophrenia.
