My trauma massively affects me in my functioning and daily life to this day yet not really anyone I know has any idea as to the full extent, if at all. Trauma isn't something someone can simply 'get over', it's just that everyone processes and shows symptoms of their trauma differently, some more outwardly and some more internalised than others.
Many conditions caused by trauma are also inherently internalised and hidden for the majority of people experiencing them. Subconsciously masking and coming up with ways of coping, often without even realising, can become part of daily life for some people who experienced trauma. Resulting in them being able to put on an outward display of being 'okay' and having made a good recovery from the event/s, when in reality they may be doing horribly mentally and feel unable to express those emotions and thoughts for many potential reasons.
With that being said, I hope you're able to find healthy ways of processing your own personal trauma and if you're able to it's always worth at least trying to find a decent therapist specialising in PTSD (which it sounds like you could be experiencing) to see if they can help at all. Even if you don't believe that therapy would work for you or that you're in a place to commit to something, it's worth seeing if just having someone safe to talk to about things in real life could help. Either way, wishing you the best OP.
