I read some book about suicide in East Germany, which was a communist country, also called DDR.
They had hanging as number 1 method for men. And toxication (different prescribed medication) number 1 method for women.
The East German government did control nearly all aspects Of East German life and it was a totalitarian dictatorship. This though did not stop the fact that the suicide rate was nearly two times higher than the democratic/capitalistic West Germany (now Germany). But the popular methods were the same. Only West Germany had a small percentage of people ending their lifes by getting ran over, jumping from heights or by a gun.
