Lurked here for a good while, taking in as much as I could. I feel as though I should post here now.

I've had my entire adulthood snatched away from me by the mental health department. I've spent at least 11 long, miserable years going in and out of psych wards, rehabs, jails and other institutions. I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar 1, seasonal affective disorder, schizoaffective disorder, drug induced psychosis, the quacks can't seem to come to a concrete diagnosis which has alienated me from the rest of the world. They tell me to work or find groups with common interest, which really is just blanket one-size-fits-all advice. What do I have to talk about besides the system? It seems that is all mental health can gIve you. They claim medication is the fixer of everything yet they force it against your will and lock you up for…. your emotions? It seems to be the new conversion therapy, where you're gaslit into thinking different.

The amount of time I have done has shown me some rather shocking revelations about my country and how it treats the mentally ill. Criminals exploit the system to get off charges against them under the guise of mental health. Hell, forensic patients aka the criminally insane get placed in a hospital-like jail setting with no definitive sentence and some of them have been there for life. Pedos end up pleading not guilty due to mental illness, spend 10-15 years locked up in a psych jail, then they get conditional release and end up working in our schools, our daycares, anywhere where there's vulnerable children and people alike because the system doesn't record a conviction if they're mentally ill. The judges and solicitors scare people into not using the mental health card by saying you'll be confined in hospital for life. Complete bullshit. Someone does 25 years to life for murder but if it goes NGMI (not guilty mental illness) they end up doing less time than if they didn't use the insanity defence. Some people never get out, others end up doing less time than what they would have had they gone the normal judicial system.

Corruption is rife in Australia. I speak now because I've been completely transparent with the administration when I first made an account. I feel that my actions may have caused the stink between my country and this site to which I apologise for. There's just nowhere else to turn to, to discuss this topic. Everywhere else is met with hostility or basic feel good advice - that the person giving advice seems to benefit more, they are under the impression they are helping you and they feel good from that however on the other side, my side, the patients side it is abuse.

I really do not mean to cause any trouble or harm to anyone here and I plan to keep my posting to a minimal, but seriously we all know the worlds fucked. We wouldn't be here otherwise and I thank you for giving me and others a place to truly discuss suicide. Many lives may have been lost, but I reckon there's been many saved as well. Cheers guys. A drink to death.

That sounds really awful what you've been through, to me this world certainly is such a hellish place.

I'm sorry for all that's happened to you. No person should have to endure what you've went through, I think few truly understand the realities of being entangled in the MH system, rehabs, etc for so long. Many people have no idea what goes on behind closed doors in psychiatric wards, or how "treatment resistant" people are regarded and treated.

One of the biggest problems with the system (in every country) that you've highlighted here as well is that there is a dearth of actual consent. Medical treatment is supposed to be guided by informed consent, yet this principle does not apply in the world of psychiatry and psychology. Treat people like prisoners with no freedom or agency, no control over what happens and no say in their treatment, and of course they will languish mentally.

As someone who has been thru the mh medical system for over 10 years, I don't doubt it for a second. The medical system is filled with quacks who don't care about the well-being of their patients. To hope things improve is like waiting for pigs to fly, it feels absolutely hopeless.
