Whats the f26 gang
A group whose specific aim is to shut down this site. As if doing so would stop people feeling the urge to ctb...

Do you know what the name means?
On their site it says:

"26 words provide legal protection for Internet sites that promote assisted suicide and other dangerous and criminal activities"

They want a certain law (section 230 of the 'communications of decency act 1996') to change so that places like SS would be illegal. Fuck those morons

I am so sick and tired of "moral police" trying to take away rights and claiming themselves as having a right to force others to believe as they do. Don't like this site? Don't get on it.

Most of the people who are a part of fixthe26 lost their child to suicide in which they were instructed on how to do it on SaSu. (Even though though probably would have ended up doing it anyway especially since they were researching suicide methods to begin with) one of the guys left a letter to his mom saying "please get that website shit down"
Just do a little research..

Fuck that. Its still on the parents, not the internet, to make sure their kid is okay, or to see if he's visiting websites like that. Research my ass.

They are spearheaded by people who are the relatives of some of those that ctb'd on this website. They are unable to cope that the person who went through with the ctb was beyond their power to help so they pin the blame on SS for existing because without SS existing their loved one would not have access to this information. It's classic boomer behavior, they think that beating down a suicidal person, restricting their access to information and pretending that everything is ok is enough to "fix" someone in mental distress. It's a joke really, they are just people looking for something to blame. The people on this forum do not encourage anyone to ctb nor do they actively endorse any methods for people on the brink. There are discussion and detailed methods on how to ctb but none of them are marketed. It's like F26 trying to take down Wikipedia because it had information that some Chinese emperor kicked the bucket due to mercury poisoning. I swear some of these boomers need to get a life.

These people also suffer from the delusion that the mental health system could have helped in some way. And maybe, in like, %10 of cases, but most people I have been in facilities with, long term or short, don't feel like they are being helped. Meds don't help like they want people to believe they do, they help a small percentage of patients deal with symptoms. But not with the actual problems in life. Cause mental health problems or no, the biggest reason that I think people leave is simply that their life has become unlivable. Period.

Yo don't talk to me like that.
I'm leaving this here for the person who asked.

The venom ain't towards you. Point is, the parents aren't parenting and are taking it out on what should be a freedom for other people. If you don't get that then use the ignore function. I'm not changing my tone.

I was familiar with this group already and hope that the families find peace. Their grief is understandable and it's easier to blame a website than to accept their loss and the true reasons behind it. Those are the stories that make the news but how many people have been helped by this site? How many have stayed alive, or been comforted in some way, even if it was in their last moments? Those stories won't make the news.

This site is the first place I've ever felt like I can be honest and genuine. Ever. In 45 years. I see great value in that.

Okay, coming in with a hot take. I'm no more a fan of F26 than the next SS-er, and I condemn their vitriolic approach and desire to suppress our community, speech, and choice. But maybe we'd all be better off if we met them with compassion. This is a group of grieving parents and people who don't want to see others (especially children) die deaths they see as wrong and preventable. I don't mean to say they're right in any of this, but it's understandable that they would be angry and feel vindicating in pointing a finger and rallying against a group they see as doing real harm.

That said, I'm really not a fan of the tone of parts of this thread.

I'm not arguing with that, but I would like to point out that you would also very much not be a fan of the tone of most of the Tweets from fixers. They have zero compassion for anyone who is on this site, unless that person is young, in which case the person is objectified as a helpless "victim" of all of the older and/or outspoken people here.

I personally cannot stand pro lifers and I do not care what they say. If someone wants to leave this world then that is their decision and taking away suicide methods would mean that people would have to resort to risky and painful methods to end their suffering. It would not reduce suicide at all. I do wish that we lived in a world where our right to die is respected. No one should be forced to live against their wishes. After all, we will all die eventually someday and life is completely meaningless.

None of us asked for this horrible life in the first place and in a world like this, wanting suicide can be perfectly rational. It is what makes sense for me personally. Something could happen to the pro lifers to make them suicidal and then they would want to exit peacefully. After all, we live in a world where there is unlimited potential for suffering and things could get so much worse for anyone.

I loathe how these go about what they are doing, I have been in arguments with them, but they refused to speak to me when I stated I did not want to tell them my real name nor show my face on a video (I have no idea what they hoped to gain from something like that!)
I did get in contact with a mum who was/is against this site, we spoke via social media for hours, her points, my points, heavy debate, it was incrediable, as by the end she agreed that whilst she will never understand this side of life, whilst I will never understand her strong pro life stance, we both went away with more understanding from both sides, from what I see now, she barely if at all interacts with fix the 26, yes she is bitter about this site providing her child the means to the end, but she now realizes that he would have found that info regardless of this site.

I attest; shutting this site down will not make me any less inclined to suicide. If anything, now it'll make me even more inclined to go with a more brutal, impulsive method.

It is truly bloody amazing you did that. Wow.

The problem is that the two sides simply become the worst of what's on the internet—unyielding angries that just shriek pointlessly into the void, cancelling each other out. No one gets any wiser, no one learns anything, and nothing changes.

A big portion of those parents, maybe even majority, drove their own children to suicide. All who pretend to care about children only after their death should have cared about their wellbeing while they were alive. In any case, those who made them want to kill themselves are to blame.

I wasn't there so I won't make assumptions. I don't know what any of those people were going through or what was going on in their life. The families might not have even known that their children were suicidal to begin with. None of my family know. If they ask me I lie and say I'm fine.

I don't agree with this. I'm sure there are a measurable percentage of parents that did "drive their own children to suicide". And a percentage of them are truly narcissistic and "pretend to care…only after their death". But there's likely a larger portion who were doing their best. Maybe they were struggling to make ends meet and where too exhausted themselves to see the signs. Maybe the signs were hidden like Shu mentions. Maybe they didn't have the emotional intelligence to process what was happening around them. There are a nearly infinite set of conditions we could assume here, but I suspect most of them are just very deeply hurt people, lashing out at the unknown and struggling to make sense of what happened to them.

And although I don't agree with their methods, I understand first hand the pain of losing a child. So I chose to extend grace, and just ignore them. The world doesn't have to agree with me.
