“Suicide is selfish” It’s selfish to want me alive when I’d be better off dead.

Since I'm chronically and mentally ill, those around me take care of me more than I take care of myself. I'm a massive burden to those around me, especially financially. Being too unwell to work properly as an adult is pathetic. I'm suffering just by living every day. On days my illness is bearable, I tend to physically hurt myself anyway.

With that knowledge, why do others think I should continue living?

I sound like a broken record mentioning this on every post. But I truly am sick of being in an endless cycle. I can't just "get help". No cure exists for me. I've tried convincing myself I deserve life. But there is nothing to love about me.

My last two attempts failed. Now, I'll make sure I don't make it to my 19th birthday.

I'm disposing of a burden to those around me. Why would anyone consider this selfish?

Well... if you die, they lose a customer.

Besides, normal people will never be able to understand how someone could be driven to the point of suicide.

Maybe it's biological maybe it's social, idk, I'm not smart enough. Their brains simply will not accept that outcome.

They quite simply don't understand, I wish there was something more I could tell you. They apply their life experiences over yours. I also have a chronic health condition. I have eczema, right now, my inner thigh is oozing some shit and its pretty gross. It's chronic, there's no known cure, I may have this for life. I hate my life, I hate my parents for saying that "roaches in the house are normal" and pitting all the blame on me for it saying "I should clean up more" when it's all around them too and we've had the issue my whole life. And guess what? Roaches are one of my more severe allergens, my skin issues are triggered by these allergens. I'm sorry for yapping, I didn't really mean to.

I can't tell you what to do, but I feel the same way. I wish you the best man.

I can relate to this. My family only blame me for wanting to leave, when they are the ones who have largely put me in the situation - but the have to deny and blame me for it.

Yeah, as someone who is chronically ill and disabled with chronic pain 24/7, I agree with you and I understand how you feel. It's selfish af to want to keep me around when I'm in pain and suffering every moment of my waking life. My illnesses are progressive and my pains are degenerative. I'm "young" and I can't live like this for the next 20-30+ years. I want out

2 things I say to this:

1) The people who say it is selfish tend to be the people who offer the least amount of support for the suicidal person; they want you to make a sacrifice (continuing to live) while making little or no sacrifice (support) themselves

2) If its your parents saying this, then giving birth to you was selfish on their part. They did not ask your consent to be born, you weren't given a choice. Now you are merely correcting their error.

Being selfish doesn't need to be a bad thing for someone. You could say the same to people that call people like US selfish, too. It's all just an opinion, and opinions don't need to be true. That's why they're opinions and not facts, you know?
