Susan, your situation gives me such a heavy heart. I'm so sorry you've been unable to find any relief. I just can't imagine.... :aw:

The following is not advised but comes from google:

If you stop eating and drinking, death can occur as early as a few days, though for most people, approximately ten days is the norm. In rare instances, the process can take as long as several weeks.

My ears have been ringing 24/7 since March so I can relate. About the only time I don't really notice it is when I have the TV up so loud that it masks the noise within my head.

Given my obesity, it would take a hell of a long time to die by starvation. That Dutch girl who died recently that way was anorexic to start with so she had an obvious head start when it comes to starvation. I'm sure hoping that I don't end up having to starve myself to die, though my chosen method -- shotgun -- is proving impossible to put into action thus far. I keep lingering on day after day, suffering as my deadline for death keeps being extended such that the deadline is always at least 24 hours from the present. It's a truly miserable way to live.

I'm not really sure how one is supposed to do not eating & drinking on their own. That Dutch girl I believe had palliative care, so they would have been able to sedate her into unconsciousness as she slowly died. Under such sedation I can then actually imagine death as being realistic & not terribly unpleasant. Just about anything is OK so long as you have the ability to be drugged out of your mind during it.

Yeah.I was almost there but you have to be really strongly minded, have massuve willpower bcs once you break fast-ypu have to start again.
Its not quick, its risky if you dont know how.
Issue is that if you will just pass out in home, outside in middle of starvation proces-you will be taken to hospital, put on drips, someti.es feeds and-what the worse-taken as a lavk of capacity and bam.Ypu will be forced fot treatme t

This is a bad idea I think. It's more painful than you think.

But if you're determined to do it, then stop eating - but do not stop drinking. Otherwise you will go insane with cravings and pain!

I know this subject has been debated before on this site. It could be helpful reading those threads.

I disagree.I mean....to just not eat ypu will need at least 21 days. With after a week max no go outside. If you are will sitting only on home for more than 2 weeks ppl will react straight away.
I did not consume any calories for 2 weeks and not drinking for 4 days. And nothing happen really.Of course my bm was pretty low,I was dry and had high calcium level but -nothing else...

Hi again Susan. I see the doc on Tues to see if CBT [cognitive behaviour therapy] will help me any. I am dubious, but at this juncture, I am willing to try anything.

White noise does help me, but it infuriates my partner. It doesn't get rid of the sound, it just masks it. There are other auditory options that I have yet to explore fully.

Have you tried in ear headphones? I find I do get some relief that way with music at around medium.low medium volume. Trouble is, once I stop listening, back to square one. I have read this

It is also possible that the initial tinnitus was the effect of some other underlying problem? Did anything happen 2 yrs ago that might be connected to the onset? Mine started after a severe viral infection got into my cerebellum and spinal cord, so I kind of know why and where it stems from. For some reason, its got worse this last few months.

have you googled any for cheap easy methods? I do news-feed searches on the internet periodically just to see what is successful for others. There are several accessible methods, unfortunately I can't tell you any of them, because if I do and you use one, your next of kin could accuse me of "murdering" you by providing the info.
Sorry.

She also (like me) suffers from hyperacusis which means she is unable to tolerate loud noise. The sound level that would mask our tinnitus is painful to us.

Yeah, I get that, same here, but that is what often works for me. After a recent hearing test where there was some auditory dysfunction, I was asked to try and expose myself to more sound, which I am trying to do. I am clutching at straws just trying to find something, anything that might just help Susan in her battle.

Just a thought, have you ever been checked for lyme disease? Symptoms sound similar and also fybromyalgia?

Then I would suggest a change of GP if possible. Do some research on all the possible causes of tinnitus and see which seem to apply to you, then go armed with that information and refuse to take no for a answer. I wish I could be more productive in your efforts, but exhaust every avenue before you give up completely. What noise colours have you tried? Have you tried any other sounds, like whales talking, or nature sounds? Sometimes they can help if you are able to find something that is around the same pitch.

I dont know enough about hyperacusis because I have never heard the term. I know it effects my left ear, a constant hum below the ringing, but right ear is ok, just ringing. It does seem a rare morph of tinnitus. What can be done about that, I have no idea, but intend to read more about later on.

Hyperacusis is when everyday sounds become perceived as painfully loud. It comes along with tinnitus for about 10-15% of us unlucky fellas.

Yes, I do know that much, I am not completely stupid, just partially

Just need to explore possible causes and see if anything fits. Initial reaction when I first read about it yesterday was, hmmm, sounds very much like what affects my left ear.

I don't think starving or dehydration is a viable suicide method.

Maybe if you're iron willed. I know some prisoners have used this method as a form of protest.
