SS'ers, please respect @fightingsioux's wish - DON'T EVEN POST ONE THING ABOUT HIM

Shame he left behind a PM that required an unpleasant sequence of events to unfold.
He could have easily made a post himself, stating his wishes.
People then could have avoided posting, and this thread could have been avoided.
Not too sure why he didn't do that.
@nitrogen Did you consider replying to @fightingsioux 's PM, and suggest he make a post, to make his wishes known ?
That way all of this could have been avoided....

The way this has been handled, namely :

seems poor, and a bit unfair to those just innocently wanting to acknowledge somebody they respected.

Ideally, the majority of SS'ers should not even know that he CTBed - from the outside, it would seem that he simply stepped away from the site. That's the best way to go without making a splash. In fact, many members simply wean off the site or take a break from the site because they're preoccupied with real-life matters without giving any explanation or saying goodbye.

Unfortunately, some "blathering moron" took the liberty to announce his death in a tribute thread yesterday and refused to remove it, even inserted profanity in three separate posts. If that did not happen, this very thread would not have been created by me today. And yes, all this drama could have been avoided.

Wow thank you so much you guys are awesome also should I be worried about the "Earn it act" like has this ever happened before or is this the first time something happened where they are trying to make an "act" to get rid of the website?

After @fightingsioux CTBed, I kept quiet because he would hate to attract attention and become the topic of discussions post-mortem. However, sure enough, somebody posted a tribute thread for him yesterday. Despite I quoted @fightingsioux and asked the OP to delete that thread, the OP insisted on leaving it up and questioned my credibility. It took me some time and effort to finally get it deleted by the mods.

Since many of you have read that thread and become aware of @fightingsioux's passing, anticipating discussions about him being sparked soon, I have to jump into action now to nip them in the bud as I promised him I would several days before he CTBed.

I'm posting the screenshot of his request here to avoid distortion of his words and to settle the source credibility issue.

While many of you are saddened by the passing of such a highly respected and beloved veteran member of this community, please remember that his wishes come before your sentiments. As such, although I'm usually not on SS much, I'll start to check the forum frequently to make sure his wishes are honored.

Sorry he's gone I interacted with him a couple of times and he came across as intelligent, why didn't he just say goodbye and not mention ctb and self ban himself that way he got his wish and no one would be any the wiser. RIP. I'm sure there's a few who just want to ctb and not be mentioned I supported someone a couple of weeks ago who didn't want any fuss.

@Buffy5120 Sorry Buffy 5120 it made me laugh you keep asking this question and you don't get a reply, I think this is the first time this has happened but you can bet your bottom $ if it passes in the US it will only be a matter of time before it spreads to Europe, but for secure e-mails you could setup a protonmail e-mail account and make sure everyone you message has an account because it's encrypted and they won't be able to read it, but that will get banned as well eventually.

I actually totally understand his point of view. I don't want people talking about me when I die, I don't even want them to remember about me. It's more wanting to disappear from the world than dying. I assume it's what he felt, I don't know, I may be wrong.

This was not a goodbye or a tribute thread , but just a notification of a person passing , best used to discuss euthanasia process . I did not see any tribute . That post did not speak of any "travel" . X went to Pegasus , X is dead and done , just like @fightingsioux wanted , that's all there was to it , lets talk euthanasia .

I'm disheartened people here decided to misrepresent this with melodramatic aggressive posts , missing the finer points of issues , and blindly evoking outrage and dispute . That thread was locked at a perfect timing and the entire issue could have died peacefully (ahmm) , but nooo . DRAMA !

Even if you are right there's a way to say things , and this one clearly does not seek understanding but to stir up emotions , saw discord , and inflate the issue even further .

To be fair to @nitrogen, she was placed in a difficult position, and was simply doing what she had been asked to do.
@fightingsioux 's PM was quite categorical : "If some.......to even post one thing about me....."

In terms of the way it was handled, my thoughts are that it should have been handled as follows :

> PM the thread OP, and discuss the issues. Ask the OP to ask the mods to delete the thread. If necessary, send the OP a copy of @fightingsioux 's PM.
> If that doesn't work, only then approach the mods.

I don't know if it was handled in the way outlined above (?), but if not, then I would say it was somewhat mishandled.

However, overall I still feel @nitrogen has acted with integrity on this....

That thread was titled "RIP fightingsioux". A thread without the word "tribute" doesn't make it not a tribute thread. Yes, there were some posts, including your post about euthanasia, but there were also other posts typical on goodbye threads and tribute threads. If that thread didn't get taken down by the mods, it would have gathered more than 10 posts by now. Btw, there were already way more than 10 posts last night before it got removed. I actually took screenshots of the posts from the OP that contained profanity, the post numbers were above 10.

The main purpose of this thread is to prevent FUTURE discussions, which is irrelevant to how many responses yesterday's tribute thread got.

You are 100% right . Dead member did not want attention , but was open about euthanasia , and @Berlin76 post was basically about the euthanasia process . Personal details were minor component of that , and those may have removed .

Hence this thread's point is (mostly) a red herring.

I know when we go into linguistics , "what is the meaning of words" , that's trolling , sorry :) Member X declared death of member Y , you cannot blame innocent members for adding "peace". The original post was short and to the point , not much tribute .


By doing so you have created a false narrative out of random events that were not planned or intentional , and did not rise to the threshold of "a tribute thread". . You could have added that personal message , calling people to respect by avoiding cliches and tributes , but you chose to escalate . I doubt this mode of action resolves issues ; it usually leaves them murkier .
