disgusting
and you too @Arvinneedstodie for liking it

I am done with this forum if these putinists are allowed to post
Forgive me, but how is this pro-Putin in any way? It looks like a regular question to me, no need to be so confrontational about it.
If anyone is curious about anything about the situation, feel free to ask me
How likely do you think it is that the anti-invasion protests in Russia will eventually convince Putin to cut his losses and leave Ukraine? Wishing you well

Are you insane? I'm not Russian & I clearly despise Putin:

"Listen, you're deeply critical of the West with good reason, but downplaying the fact that Putin is an imperialist autocrat who poisons everyone who criticizes him & keeps his subjects in abject poverty while ruling an unbelievably resource-rich country is just plain silly."

Btw, how do you feel about your president? Are you a fan of the great democrat Erdoğan?

It looks like a lot of people have been posting significantly better advice than I could but I did want to just say that I am so sorry for what you are going through. I can't even really understand or imagine the position you are in but I want you to know that I sincerely hope you end up being okay. My messages are always open if you ever need to talk.

Like I have said for so long on here, we are like a huge family here and when one of our members is hurting, in trouble, having a bad day, the list goes on, WE ALL are there for them.

@Nessie, I wish, hope and pray that everything comes out good for you. You are a kind, caring and thoughtful soul and I hope I can speak for everyone, just on this occasion, that Godspeed in that you are ok, that the war is done with quickly, (Putin get out!).

I just read where Putin told Finland and Sweden to think twice before ever thinking of joining NATO. Is he mad(crazy)?

Wishing you all the best, if possible, please keep us informed, as YOU are part of the heart of Sanctioned Suicide.

Heart to heart, I am with you.

@ncmxm спасибо :heart:

@Dr Iron Arc thank you! You've always been and remain incredibly supportive of me (as well as other forum members) and I am immensely grateful to you for it. I hope my story doesn't get you too upset. You're a very kind and beautiful soul. I know how much you love to deny it at any cost and get mad at anyone who talks about you positively, but please, do me a big favour and lets not do that dance right now. Thank you for being my Internet bestie for these two years, in case it's goodbye or even if it isn't. For as long as I am able to be online and reach you, you're being super helpful by just talking to me, being supportive and maybe offering some advice. Love you to the moon and back

A bit of a practical advice moment - I have packed some stuff into my handbag and put it next to my apartment's door in case I'll have to run for some reason. I'd also take it with me whenever I'd leave the house in case I'd be locked out. Here's what I packed:

- My ID
- All cash I have (which is, unfortunately, not a lot). Small notes in a front pocket, bigger notes hidden inside.
- My two credit and one debit card (mostly useless at the moment but who knows?)
- All the meds I regularly take or might urgently need (except for the ones I already don't have, sadly)
- A small notepad and a couple of pens in case I need to take some notes
- A powerbank, two phone chargers and two USB cords
- A couple of lighters (cheap crap but those are the best I could get), small scissors
- Personal hygiene stuff, a small pack of wet wipes (could use a bigger one), hand sanitizer
- A couple of energy bars as a small snack
- A can of soft drink because I am a complete and utter idiot and only bought two huge ass bottles of water that I have no way of carrying around and I apparently don't have a single small, packable plastic bottle in the house. I plan to buy a small water bottle ASAP, it might take time but so far isn't outside of realm of possibility.
- A packable bigger tote bag in case I need to also pack something bigger on the go
- My keys

So a few questions to the fellow forum members who are not terrified stupid like me:

1) Does packing some food and drinks that would require hot water to make (quick oats, mash potato pack, instant coffee with sugar) makes sense or is it stupid of me to assume they will be of any use in an emergency?
2) Does packing a second power bank makes sense or is an overkill that will only make the bag heavier and bulkier?
3) Does packing a foldable knife sounds like a good idea (practical) or the worst idea ever (can get in trouble with police/military, or get it taken away by someone who'll use it on me)?
4) Any suggestions on what else should I put in this bag?

Let's operate on a hopeful assumption I will be able to read your responses. Thank you in advance for all suggestions and support. And in case this will end up really being the oddest goodbye thread on the forum, it was super nice knowing all of you and I wish you peace in all meanings and interpretations of this powerful word.
Don't take just my word on it okay? Trust your instincts, it isn't called survival instinct for no reason.

Packing food that requires hot water to make is kind of depends on the situation. Having access to hot water is key. I think some things don't require hot water to make, but need hot water to dissolve faster. The plus side is that they won't spoil soon and are light to carry. If you add it in slowly or let it soak overnight, eventually it will soften or mix in.

For the power bank, it depends on your usage, setting everything to max out battery on your devices. It's really up to you depending on your usage.

I think that water is mostly going to be the heaviest, no way to really reduce the weight.

I don't know about knife laws in your country, but I kind of think that the authorities won't care much right now, they got bigger things to worry about. Try to use the knife for more practical things like opening things. But if you are attacked run first, if you decide to defend with a knife, there is a chance that you can accidentally stab yourself. But never get into a knife fight.

I don't have much for suggestions for packing. If you plan on walking around a lot, weight is something more important to consider.

@Nessie I
Hey, everyone. Once again, thank you everyone for suggestions and support!

@Manaaja special thank you to you for taking the time to give me so much detailed advice.

It's not a good thing to hope for, but it is a realistic thing to hope for given the situation. The thing is, it is really unclear what the hell does he really want, frankly. Putins rhetoric is all over the place.

That is not completely outside of the realm of possibility, potentially, but I don't quite imagine how to do it logistically at the moment. I don't have a car and don't know anyone who will take me with them in their car, so considering that there is no long distance public transportation in my area now, at the moment there is no way for me to get anywhere other than on foot. Additionally, even if I did had a car, as far as I know we aren't totally encircled and surronded, but there is war action in all directions from where I am, and leaving the city bears a very real risk of ending up in basically at the frontline, unfortunately.

It absolutely breaks my heart to know you are in this situation. I wish there was something we could do to help you get out of there.

I am leaving you this link to a google doc with different contacts of people from Modova and Romania whos are helping ukranian refugees. Maybe at some point it will help

Latest claim: Ukrainian citizens were hiding "rockets" 🤣 (said without irony) in apartment buildings so they can get Russia to attack civilians.

About all those accusations Russians throw about, how do they keep doing that but still say "we are one nation"?! If Ukrainians were drunk nazis possessing dangerous state-of-the-art nuclear weapons, so are Russians themselves then.

I just read where Putin told Finland and Sweden to think twice before ever thinking of joining NATO. Is he mad(crazy)?

No, Walt, he just wants to protect russians living there by invading them as well. Doesn't have to use weapons, can send his goons to drink the swedes under the table. Now about the finns, don't think so.

Are you a fan of the great democrat Erdoğan?

Seriously, who hires their son-in-law to run the economy?! Not even Berlusconi is that bad...

Hello, everyone. As usual, I am super grateful to everyone who is offering advice, resources, or just their genuine support. You're my biggest source of moral support now, guys, thank you so much, you all are incredibly kind!
However, please, please, even if you're upset which is understandable, unless someone is super agressive and/or trolling let's try not to attack each other and fight over this. On behalf of all people of Ukraine (maybe thats cocky but okay), let me send love to all of you and gratitude to all supporters. I will answer the questions in the next post or by editing a little later.

I promised one person an update if I actually see something right out of my window and I did see some kind of aircraft exploding and falling from the sky relatively close a few moments ago. I also hear something that sounds suspiciously like gunfire and it has never been so close yet. Very very scary. Even for someone ready to part with their life, very scary. I hope none of you ever know how scary it is. I also hear someone crying hysterically in the apartment next to me through the paper thin walls...This is so unfair...So many people did absolutely nothing to deserve this.

I am extremely disappointed in people here who recommended him or her to flee the country she/he was born and cares about. incredible

What future does that person have after recovering from extreme financial situation and disability? Do you expect that person to fight to death? I think he/she has a right to leave to someplace where he/she can be safe and benefit this world more than being a cannon fodder.

I'm extremely disappointed in the ones that hope we all get nuked

Thanos is not real and this is not a solution. Nuclear war will throw society in a bedrock age with anarchy and crime and world full of radiation that will take ages to disappear. Don't judge people who don't know what they are talking about.

How determined are the people of Ukraine to resist now that it's clear everyone has left them high and dry? How united is the country?
As far as I can tell people are determined to resist, mostly not because we're very hopeful, but because there is really no other choice but to resist. Most people don't really believe that Putin can be trusted anymore (because he was swearing he has no plans to attack us in the first place) and therefore don't really believe his peace offers are not BS just to look better in the eyes of the world. If you want an example of how the public feels, you might've heard this story (was definitely on CNN) about a small group of soldiers on a small island that were approached by a huge ass Russian warship that sent them an oficial announcement "This is a Russian warship. We offer to surrender, lay down your arms to avoid the bloodshed or we'll bomb you" and the only response they got wasn't some official determined refusal to surrender, condemnation, threat of retaliation, or valiant statement about protecting our country but a very short and simple "Go fuck yourself, Russian warship". Those were the famous last words as the soldiers were immediately struck and killed in an explosion after that. That's what the general reaction is like - the willingness to resist is mostly the "fuck everything, we're doomed anyway, let's go out with a bang" attitude.
I'd say the country is as united as I've ever seen it. Only about a week ago there was a violent clash of two small protester groups, one of the right-wingers and the other pro-communist crowd blaming the west for everything. A couple of women particularly stood out because they had an ugly physical fight with equally horrible verbal comments of the "you deserved to die under rubble you degenerate whore" variety, that was posted on social media in local groups. One of them happens to be my neighbour and I personally know the other one. I've seen both of them over the last couple of days, one in a supermarket line, and the other one in the long-ass line to an ATM. They are now perfectly united in their reaction to events, both sporting the exact same thousand-yard-stare and the only comments they make have nothing to do with politics and are among the lines of "this is horrible, I hope my family is safe and it will be over soon". Everyone is simply in a shock, and I didn't see anyone anywhere arguing politics, not in public, not online, nowhere.
How likely do you think it is that the anti-invasion protests in Russia will eventually convince Putin to cut his losses and leave Ukraine?
I'd say extremely unlikely. Putin doesn't give two shits about his own people beyond his closest circle, unfortunately, and I think the whole world knows his attitude towards protests. In order for the protests to have a real effect on him they have to get super massive to the point when he will be genuinely scared for his own safety, and in order for that to happen the Russian people would need to face a threat to them from his actions that is so massive that it will outweight the very real threat of being beaten, arrested, tortured and thrown in a horrible prison for protesting. If the Putin is insane enough to directly threaten NATO, the people might get so scared that the protests will get supert massive and violent and Putin will feel a real pressure from the public. But he probably isn't that insane. The slightly more realistic possibility is that people in his closest circle will get so pissed about the losses they suffered from his decisions that he will begin to worry about them using their wealth to bribe his guards to look the other way for a second and to hire a very nice hitman to take Putin out in something that will later be portrayed as an attack by some rogue Ukrainian/oppositional/pro-NATO/far left/far right terrorist.

Everything got quiet again, so I don't think there is any immediate danger (well, on a very relative scale, I guess from the outside any scenario looks like fairly immediate danger). Since there is not much I can really do at the moment, I'm going to make myself a good strong cup of coffee and get to work. If things continue to be quiet and the electricity and the Internet will continue to work, I hope you don't mind if I'll continue posting.

Also do you know that your country is one of the list to get in the European Countries soon, maybe that's one of the reasons they decided to do that, just thinking out loud. Dont want to go offtopic but IRAQ wanted to start selling their oil in euros and not dollars look at what happened. Although that scale will never happen in your country.

It's hard not to admire that spirit, but it's fucking frightening that it probably means Putin will realize that installing a puppet regime is useless & that he'll decide to annex as much territory as he can instead. :eh: Goddamn psychopath...

Why would Putin care about what happens to Russia? At least he has not shown to care about Russia in a long time.

I think Putin is very scared about something happening to Putin.
( @Nessie , I really like the scenario you decribe: "The slightly more realistic possibility is that people in his closest circle will get so pissed about the losses they suffered from his decisions that he will begin to worry about them using their wealth to bribe his guards to look the other way for a second and to hire a very nice hitman to take Putin out in something that will later be portrayed as an attack by some rogue Ukrainian/oppositional/pro-NATO/far left/far right terrorist")
I am not familiar with Russia's most inner circle politics, obviously, but there must have been something going on recently. The was no reason to have this conflict right now. On the other hand, the US knew beforehand when things would happen. I am betting on NSA or whoever knowing Putin was under pressure and needed an outside war.

The same has happened many times before. Take the war for the Falkland Islands, for example. The Argentinian dictator was losing his grip on power, and needed a war. So they declared one. The Falklands just happend to be close by, and so far away from GB that he hoped they would not really go out of their way to keep them. The British prime minister had a lot of inner political problems to distract from, so this war came very handy indeed. The actual people on the islands were reported to not give a thing who governs them, as long as they and their sheep are left alone.

You don't get it, Putin is a man on a mission to make Russia great again, to restore as much of the Russian Empire as he can... If you want to learn more about it, read & watch some interviews with the Russian dissident Masha Gessen.

Well, according to official Russian propaganda (sorry, I don't have a milder term on my mind) the whole world that isn't China is afraid of Russia and is conspiring to undermine it as much as possible, and ideally to completely destroy it so that it isn't a threat. In reality he's probably more worried that the NATO wants to undermine his personal power and power of his government rather than Russia as a country. But I am no expert on what is on his mind, I can only guess. For example, I have no idea if he's genuinely paranoid and convinced there we're secretly conspiring with NATO to let their army attack Russia with missiles from our territory, and therefore he will really cease fighting if Zelensky accepts neutrality as if we weren't neutral to begin with, or if Putin really wants to annex as much as he can and tries to convince our army to lay down their arms to then quickly capture territories and pretend that our people were excited that he came here to protect us from "Nazi drug addicts" and let us join Russia just as we always wanted. In case of the latter, please know that you have first-hand evidence of the person in Eastern Ukraine that I don't know a single person here, no matter how terrified, that would want any part of Ukraine to become a part of Russia and many people are willing to stand to their death to make sure it doesn't happen, including civilians making fucking Molotovs at home, so if that is the lie he spins there is no guarantee that people in any country next to Russia (that isn't China) wouldn't suddenly want to be liberated from their awful govenment next...

Also, @motel rooms I appreciate l that you're being direct and honest. I think it's clear that I'm not delusional about our situation so I wouldn't get mad and scream how dare you suggest our troops wouldn't win.
I will never live to see it and I doubt in folks on Sanctioned Suicide will, but hopefully one day, we will do away with money altogether, we will have moved way past fossil fuels and we can spend our time instead of ego, greed, wars, to use the time and energy to better man and womenkind.

Very profound words. I always knew you're a beautiful soul @whywere. People like you should be in power, then the world will be a much better place.
I am with you @Nessie heart and soul as we are all together. When one hurts, we all do. I said a prayer for you last night and I stand with you 100%. You are such a kind, caring spirit and to have to deal with a jerk like Putin, is just so, so wrong.

Thinking of you each and every minute, 100% for real, as you are like family to me.

GOD bless you my awesome ad dear friend.

Walter
