The glass worries me, too. I do have other options though. I thought about using this particular door because the handle is massive, I doubt it would break. As for the knot, there is no way for it to slip off, I made sure of that. The upper edge of the door takes most of the weight. The handle is used to make sure the rope stays in place. I grabbed the rope with both hands and lifted myself off the floor, no problems there.
The rope is 12mm thick, do you think that's too much? I figured a somewhat thicker rope in combination with the turtle neck padding would put enough pressure on my carotids once my body slide towards the floor.
Thanks for the advice. I had no idea the cold would prolong the whole process. I know a few places with trees where I would not be discovered for a few hours. But again, as much as I dislike being found by a family member, there is something comforting about dying at my place.
I am not an expert, but I recall people saying 10mm is good, and that the thicker the rope, the harder it is to get pressure (I THINK)!
Yes, as for the cold for anyone in a colder climate, PLEASE be aware that any form of suicide outdoors would put you at a risk of not dying as fast as if in a warmer place. This is due to hypothermia-like reactions, which preserves the body. I have no idea what temps are safe, but have heard of numbers of people who were saved after up to 48 hrs, when otherwise they would have been dead. I nixed a plan to hang outside because of this--it's getting cooler out, but not near freezing yet, and I don't know if that would make it take longer. (Plus, I think neighbors could maybe hear if my body flails around.)
