Hi,
I plan to use SN in 100ml of water. I was wondering if I could use an Emergen-C brand dissolvable packet in my water to curb the salt flavor and help increase absorption via Vitamin C. Or maybe using milk for calcium?

Also are Tums or Alka-Seltzers a OK substitute for Tegamet? I have all of the dosages fine, but I dont want anything to react to the SN making it absorb slower, resulting in a slow painful exit. I'm no chemist, I'd appreciate legitimate advice. I'm tired of cruel people and don't desire any money or material possessions, I just want a quick exit to rest.

Thank you in advance.

Regarding the second paragraph, use the Resources Compilation and the site search. Already lots of discussion and advice about this. Also search SN and milk to see if it has been addressed.

Use the drug interactions at bottom of Resources Compilation for SN and vitamin C.

Stan clearly stated in Guide not to mix anything , especially not acidic.

Please read Guide , FAQ , Resources .

Seriosly @mods, still "no need to pin SN Resource Page" ? :blarg:

Yes, I too remember reading somewhere that Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) definitely reduces the effectiveness of SN.

Thanks everyone. I'll just have a chocolate or mint after drinking it.

My notes on H2 blockers / antacids :

You should be able to find these over-the-counter.
Note : They are not considered to be essential, and can be omitted.
Some people believe an antacid may be faster acting and more effective, but opinions vary. H2 blockers reduce the amount of acid your stomach makes, whereas antacid neutralises the acid already in your stomach.
H2 blockers : Tagamet (Cimetidine) / Zantac (Ranitidine), or supermarket own brands of cimetidine / ranitidine. Pepcid may also be suitable (though I haven't confirmed or researched).
Antacid : Ideally, get an antacid containing magnesium hydroxide, so Mylanta or milk of magnesia may be good choices. Other options : Maalox, Rennie, Tums.
I'm not sure if Sodium Bicarbonate (eg Alka Seltzer), is a good choice, since it was removed from the peaceful pill handbook. The suitability of Gaviscon has also been questioned.
Many people seem to go with Tagamet or Zantac, so you could just go with one of those.

I'd avoid it. It won't help the taste, anyway. The only non-water liquid I can think of at all that wouldn't just make the salt taste worse is maybe a clear broth of some sort. (I'm not recommending that, but if you were dead set on ignoring the warnings to only use water, maybe it would be ok.)

Regarding vitamin C, the main thing I know is when you eat foods that contain nitrates, that converts to nitrites. Vitamin C stops that conversion, which is good if you're trying to make your food healthier. I don't know what it does directly to nitrite, but it's probably not good and should be avoided. It's also acidic, which will interfere.
