Normal people will harp that access to the drug killed him or access to forums like these killed him. Here's the real startling fact:

"he had received mental health support but was facing a five-month wait for counselling."

Five months wait due to NHS shoddy system is what killed him, not the drug or the forums.

Exactly, if he'd received the support he needed earlier he wouldn't have to take the final step. If it wasn't SN then he would have possibly found another method. The usual misplaced, hysterical hand wringing.

Wish I could get hold of SN for £3.49

Don't these people know blaming the method only sets mental health back? Instead of addressing the real problems behind why people take their lives, we focus on the methods they used and this approach does absolutely nothing but make the lives of those suffering more difficult. It's so infuriating, especially when you're one of the people suffering from mental illness. I can't even afford to see a therapist regularly and when I caved and took their medication, it destroyed me even further. I've done the diet and lifestyle changes thing. So what else am I supposed to do?

I completely agree! Getting access help for mental illness is so hard and expensive. It's idiotic that instead of making it more accessible they'd rather blame the SN

I read that article and really found the author as well as those relatives incredibly unreasonable. What is the consensus here? We won't name that mysterious suicide drug because of what? If life is so great, what's the danger here? They will probably put it on teenagers and adolescents wanting to experiment with death or satisfy their curiosity or other made-up crap; or maybe life is so bad and we still have to keep all those people suffering just so their relatives are happy, right? We can't have people peacefully leaving when we can keep them around for longer, with more pain, anguish and discomfort leading to a lingering process of death by cancer or dementia. And this whole pro-suicide label. Really? Pro-suicide? I mean, by it's definition, being pro-something, means supporting it so it would make sense but I can't help but feel that in this case it is supposed to be patronizing and pejorative. We say that one can be pro-choice as in supporting a woman to decide what to do with her body when she's pregnant but isn't it being ultimately pro-choice to also support this woman to decide to terminate not only the pregnancy but also herself, should she wish for it? It seems to me that the people often labeled as pro-suicide are actually consequential pro-choice people. Seeing and reading articles like that really makes me feel like we live in some modern medieval times. And obviously the 5-month wait here doesn't seem to gather much attention from the author, it's the suicide drug and the forums that we should blame.

I really wish I had just bought it when it was cheaper and I had some money left on a card. Now I'm scared of it being taken down. Fuck. This is ridiculous, and doesn't solve anything.

I know right? How dare they to get away from life so easily?

Boy I love the smear tactics. Reminds me of: "Bullied girl dies after visiting suicide forum." When it actually was 22-24 year old woman who was bullied in school. If you thought that the "girl" was "bullied" on a suicide forum, and killed herself as a consequent of this, then it's on you to make assumptions. The articles like these are filled with brazen defamation, and what actually makes me frown is that there are people who will buy into this bullshit.

I would think someone would have the compassion to realize if someone takes their life that is because they couldn't stand life and were suffering. If we can euthanize our pets we should be understanding enough to realize people too need to be euthanized when suffering is unbearable and ongoing.

From my experience, in order to be able to empathize with those reaching their threshold of suffering in life, one has to have been there, felt it, contemplated ways out etc. Otherwise it seems to be a level of empathy completely unreachable by most people who don't have any first hand experience with worst aspects of human condition. This would explain why otherwise smart, educated and reasonable people, when met with the subject of suicide, suddenly go into some kind of autopilot mode and just start spewing the most cliched quotes which are out of touch with reality, like: "It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem", "Please, don't do it", "People love you", "Don't be selfish", "You will create more suffering" etc. Of course there must be exceptions to that but I've yet to meet one. Also I feel that people's instincts regarding the euthanasia of pets are a lot more on the right track as well as their compassion towards them seems to work in a more humane way, paradoxically.
It's been super hard to get SN in the UK since mid/end of 2020... I hate when articles make out like it was "easy" to buy, and how things need "legislation", when all we want is just peace in our final moments :I

I really wish I had just bought it when it was cheaper and I had some money left on a card. Now I'm scared of it being taken down. Fuck. This is ridiculous, and doesn't solve anything.

Is it banned in the UK or are there any restrictions regarding purchases by individuals? If I remember correctly, not long ago people were even getting it from Amazon? If it's legal there shouldn't be any problems to have it imported from other European country? Also local companies should be selling it to individuals because why not, people cure their meats etc. In central/eastern Europe it's going 2-3GBP for 500g and 99% purity.

Why is that? If somehow people could be educated to see it's no different with people we might get somewhere.

What really bothers me is that they use these tragic events to push a certain point of view. Instead of taking a stance like "We need better ways to helping those with mental health issues" they use this fearmongering BS. No doubt these deaths are tragic but there were circumstances that led to them, blaming it all on the drug and taking it away just leads to more suffering from those who do want to choose to end their lives

I'm still upset about those fricken nets on the Golden Gate Bridge. Interesting story though about the one where the sea lion saved the jumper. I wish I could hug a sea lion. But if it had been me they saved I may have never wanted to see a sea lion again.

Yeah, Amazon was where I was referring to, didn't know if I should say or not lol. (I'm in the US if that matters.) It's risen in price and I'm seeing more reviews regarding suicides, so it makes me nervous. I don't make any money so I don't know how I'd get it in the near future. Just hate to potentially lose it as an otherwise easily accessible option.

They should ban trains and cliffs, those are also suicide methods.
I immediately thought of innovatory train breaks which allow trains to stop very fast, to degrease the occurrence of train suicides. I can imagine a situation where the train stops so fast that people inside are thrown to the ground, two of them get killed on spot and ten recieve serious injuries, from which one dies in the hospital.

From my experience, in order to be able to empathize with those reaching their threshold of suffering in life, one has to have been there, felt it, contemplated ways out etc. Otherwise it seems to be a level of empathy completely unreachable by most people who don't have any first hand experience with worst aspects of human condition. More people are progressive towards the legalization of euthanasia for old and terminally ill, than, let's say, for those diagnosed with mental illness, or for young people, or for everyone. Because of that, focusing on the right to die for old and terminally ill is a good first move to increase the chances for euthanasia campaign to succeed.
