Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

From the viewpoint of Stephen Wolfram the universe is a simulation, a big cellular automata.
From the viewpoint of solpsism we can only be sure that our mind exists, everything around could be a simulation.

Yes I believe the universe is sort of a big video game and everything is preprogrammed. When I trip on a big dose of pregabalin, it feels like that even more.

Everything feels unreal. Staged is a good word too. Scary unreal at times, as in can't even believe this (or whatever) is happening.

Not really. It feels real to me. Unfair certainly but, real. I suppose I feel that if it was a simulation, there might be ways to 'cheat' it.

I can't really figure out the end goal of it being a simulation either. Asides from a storyline from 'The Matrix'. In most scenarios relating to that though, I would think things would be different/ worse.

So, let's say it's a Matrix type scenario. Spoiler alert! Some other being has trapped us in an illusion where they feed off our energy. So- why allow us to be mortal? Surely, it would be more effecient if we lived even longer? If they're feeding off of emotion and specifically, negative energy, why not make people suffer even more? Why allow antinatilists to survive and boycott the system? I don't know. Maybe all to sustain the illusion of choice. I still don't really buy it though.

I certainly think we are born into capitalist/ consumerist systems/ traps that are hard to change and escape from, without probably suffering more. I see them as physical traps set up and maintained by real people who have power though. Aided by our parents (arguably) naive decisions to enlist us into the system also. I don't see that as an illusion though. It's all too real sadly.

All I can say is that, if this is all one big video game, then whoever's playing as me sucks at it :hmph:

I don't believe we live in a simulation. But the question always reminds me of this comic:

I wonder how simulated an abcessed tooth would seem to these theorists ... I found it quite real enough, myself.

You know when you zone out while driving and don't remember the last few minutes? That was a server reset.

That reminds me of something that my cognitive neuroscience professor said back when we were discussing attention. Basically, when the brain is at rest we are generally just mind-wandering/zoning out. There are also certain areas of the brain that become more active when at rest, such as the medial prefrontal cortex and the posterior cingulate cortex, which are part of a network known as the Default Mode Network (DMN). This network is anti-correlated with the Central Executive Network (CE), which includes areas of the brain such as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the anterior cingulate cortex. This brain network becomes more active when you engage in external tasks, especially those requiring higher-order cognition.

I just had an abscessed tooth pulled. I hope your toothache goes away soon. Nothing I hate more than oral surgery.

Plus, I miss my tooth. Eating is so different now.

I know, wnd this is just the surface level shit. My understanding of it isn't even that deep yet
I had a stroke mostly in the Medulla Oblongata so the brain fascinates me

Most people perform the same rudimentary routines everyday; eat, shit, sex, sleep. Then they go through the same life stages; school, work, marriage, kids, death. What are they if not NPCs?

i dont like this topic its basically a philosophical quicksand completely unprovable either way and always will be. you can never step outside the system to check the code so every argument for it and against it is just mental masturbation with extra steps
