• Hey Guest,

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

I don't plan on ctb anytime soon due to a variety of reasons, but I want to leave some amount of money to my mom when I do go.

I know there will be a lot of 'I don't want money I want my kid' or 'I'd trade all the money in the world to have my kid back.'

But assuming that's not an option, what's enough money for you to say, yeah I'm devastated, but I'm happy they thought of me and this really helps. With my time line I think I could get 20-30k in cash. Maybe I could hang on a little longer and get to 100k, but I'd rather not since that'll take another 4-5 years. Split the difference and do 50k?

Thoughts?

Not a parent.

Enough to cover the costs.

Or enough to never have to work until death in a safe place, so I can focus on creative stuff that I love and think are meaningful, without worrying about whether it makes money. A book, game, movie, whatever works. It would likely include a lot of psychological topics, meaning of life and suicide as well, since my theoretical kid would have died.

Also you should look into if the money is taxed, in case you really worry about a specific amount.

If you're willing to wait, some life insurance policies explicitly say they won't cover suicides in the first 2 years, suggesting they'll cover suicides after 2 years.

Gosh this makes my head hurt and my heart sink. I'm a parent. But I have tried to get into the frame of mind I think you are going for... still, nope, no amount. I would cry over every dollar they had saved up for me. Ok, try again from the child's point of view... $10,000. To cover expenses and buy something for myself that I think they would want me to have. It's very sweet of you to think of that.

Don't think I could make enough for her to never work again. She's in her 40s right now, so probably another 40 or so years if I look at how old my grandma is and how old my great grandma was when she died.

Good thought though. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere you can buy the casket and stuff in advance.

I'll have to look into this. From what I know most don't cover suicides at all. So I never thought to dig deeper.

That's understandable, money doesn't replace a kid.

I'm only really thinking about it because I plan on being here for sometime and living with her allows me to save a good amount of money. I won't need it when I'm gone, so might as well leave a nice nest egg.

Oh, sorry, that was not meant to come off as advice. I was entirely focused on answering a hypothetical question. I know that is an unrealistic amount.
