Just tried baking soda and citric acid in a plastic bag. It nearly worked. I purposely lowered the concentration because it was more a trial , not day of. It nearly worked. Since my CO2 concentration was too low, it was obviously not instantaneous and pretty physically distressing, but in a few more seconds, I would have lost consciousness. I could already feel myself starting to blackout. If you increase the concentration , should be pretty instantaneous. And if it isn't , you can always take the bag off.

Materials:
40 Liter Trash bag
Large ziplock bag
Rubber Band
Citric Acid
Baking Soda
Water

Mixing:
Depending on the size of your bag, mix enough baking soda, citric acid in the ziplock. Use the largest possible ziplock in the smallest possible trash bag. Leave it mostly closed, just have a small opening. Pour water in and quickly close the bag. Wait for it to expand. Experiment a few times to make sure you get the maximum expansion while making sure it doesn't burst/pop.

Setting up bag:
Put the ziplock in the trash bag , with the zip side facing up. Sit down, and put the bag over your head. Not completely above your head, more like the bag is hanging down so the ziplock is below your face. Use the elastic rubber band to secure the bag around your neck.

Final:
Open the ziplock. CO2 will quickly fill the space.

I have seen other threads about this where people say it will not work, but that is not true. Even if you are scared of the pain, keep scissors in your hand. In case the concentration is not enough and it takes too long, you can cut it off.

This sounds like a good way to seriously cause damage, IMO.

I can see why you would think that, but damage won't be caused until a few minutes in. So if you were to feel pain you can undo it scot free :)

I'd do it differently: instead of using a ziplock bag I'd make the reaction going inside a 1 - 2 L plastic bottle and attach the opening end of a trash bag to the bottleneck. When the bag is filled enough, it can be carefully detached from the bottleneck and then put over the head and secured around the neck with an elastic rubber or insulation tape. With this method, I'd be sure that the bag won't blow up due to excessive pressure that could occur from CO2 produced in the continued reaction and my head won't contact with froth.

Can you describe any advantages of your technique?

I don't mind this idea but there's just too much to it, the partial hanging is a similar and much more to the point than this. I don't think it's bad just scary in your last moments if you're claustrophobic.

Ohhh I didn't think of doing it like that. I just figured it would be a lot easier to use a ziplock since you wouldn't have to be as careful about the CO2 not leaking. The only advantage I can think of is opening a ziplock is really quick so less time to back out? Also , you don't have to worry about exploding. In a large ziplock, even when I used waaay too much of the chemicals, it didn't "explode. " The zip just popped and the air leaked out.

I tried partial hanging so many times! It didn't work for me! I know you have to hit the carotid artery but I couldn't do it.

I probably didn't get the idea right. You mentioned two bags, and according to my reading, the inner bag with a zip is supposed to be used as the reaction chamber for making CO2 and the outer bag (without zip) is supposed to hold CO2 atmosphere around the head. If you seal the outer bag tightly, the gas won't be able to escape.

I tried this method a few days ago and it nearly worked. It did give me a similair idea though, however, there are no studies for that. Lemme know what you think. Posting it now hehehe.

CO2 & plastic bag surely can be used for CTB, but I'm not sure if your particular technique would be optimal. Here's some info about CO2 you could find useful
