CO will become CO2 immediately it mixes with fresh air.
Don't know what this timer you mentioned is used for.
What, source for this info? I don't think that's true... it will just dissipate very quickly to non-dangerous levels.

Edit: Also good time to remind everyone DO YOUR RESEARCH before you start to make your attempt. Asking for advice mid-method was a bit of a mistake I'm sorry to say. I wish you better luck tonight though friend.[/QUOTE]

Hi. I'm sorry to hear of your struggles but understand your determination.

I too am planning on the CO method now, only using a car. While I have seen some information on the method, nothing as detailed as this - which will help tremendously. Thank you for sharing your experiences and I hope you find success soon.

Jacques, make sure you have the right car. If you have a hybrid, electric car or really any modern car it won't work. Also make sure your garage is sealed (maybe put some blankets under the door). I don't drive so I don't know much about the car method though.

CO becomes really dangerous to others when done indoors but in a tent outdoors, the CO will disperse quickly after opening the tent.
This is what I thought, doing it indoors is dangerous to other people but in a tent is fine even with others nearby. That said, I basically pitched my tent as far away from the others as possible.

Cause I don't want them to see my body and be disturbed when the people in white outfits show up. That said, I imagine the police or whoever gets called in will take precautions to dispell any "interest" from people on the campsite especially those with kids. One would hope.

A body dead from CO isn't bad to look at from what I've seen but I imagine just the fact of seeing a dead body could still upset people.

So I'm planning to order the Regatta Malawi before midnight so that I can collect it tomorrow.

However I just read the reviews and a few had me concerned.

11 months ago · from Tesco
I bought this as a cheap alternative to a hotel! Seemed like a good idea at the time.
Firstly was amazed at the design and how easy it was to put up. Literally open the bag stand back, position and pin down.
I used a double airbed in it with a self inflating 25mm mat on top. Was very comfortable but feet and head were very close to touching the ends as the angle is very steep. The corners of the airbed were virtually touching the sides too. It certainly had a decent test though as I stayed three nights in it and one night it rained solid for five hours.
I had waterproof sprayed the seams etc when putting it up. It did let the odd drip through here and there and as its single skinned in places touching the material was a no no.
Overall though it did the job but would definitely benefit from being a foot longer and wider. I'm about 5'9".
Packing it away required watching the video on UTube and then its mysteriously easy.
Still amazed at the design of this thing though and like I say double skinned and foot longer and wider would make a huge difference.

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
THIS TENT IS NO BETTER THAN ANY OTHER 20 QUID POP UP TENT, THE 3000 RATED HEAD IS NOT A CORRECT STATEMENT. ONE NIGHT OF RAIN AND EVERYTHING WAS SOAKED, EVERYTHING!!! COMPLETE RUBBISH

So my concerns are:
  • What does he mean about the tent being "steep"?
  • Should I waterproof spray the seams?
  • He says it did let in the odd drip here and there, is this a cause for concern?
  • What does he mean when he says touching the material in places is a "no no"?
Obviously, the reason for my concern over the second review doesn't need to be explained, but then there are several other reviews, many 5 stars, attesting that the tent is waterproof.

I really do NOT want to travel 2 hours and spend money on a third tent that won't work.

I am using a car instead of a tent, but will be using charcoal instead of the exhaust as that failed for me before :(

Also, I can't do this at home so a campsite or other remote area will be needed. I wish we were closer.

That's why I'm watching your journey with keen interest and wish you fair winds

1. Steep means the sides pitch up to the centre at a steep angle reducing the volume in the tent. Some tents go staight up before angling to the centre or are dome shaped. This would not affect your comfort too much and small space is desirable.
2. I would say no given the other 5 star reviews. However, in light of your troubles so far a little extra insurance won't hurt now. The spray shouldn't be too expensive and is readily available at most camp stores.
3. No tent is 100% waterproof, hence the ratings - the higher the more 'waterproof'. Could even be from condensation from breath. However, given the smaller volume of this tent and same amount of charcoal the concentrations reached should be much higher even with tiny holes.
4. As mentioned above, tents are more water resistant than proof, and touching the sides of a wet tent will degrade its water resistance capabilities leading to more water getting inside the tent.

PS: please pm me if you can

Thanks I honestly didn't know, makes me wonder about how fast that is and how it might affect how fast the concentration of CO builds in air. It's totally new info to me.

Any particular reason other than obvious risks of burning the place down etc?

Alcohol should be used only moderately in this method, because it would dilate the finest blood vessels and thereby possibly counteract a hemoglobin blockade of carbon monoxide, as experience at least suggest vague.

So I am guessing that if you take a drug that is vaso constrictive (such as mdma, coke or heroine) it would increase the rate/chance of success?

About this, i don't know. I only have read, that alcohol should avoided at this CO method.

Maybe it does affect how the CO's absorption but only slightly. I'm already scared enough as it is, wouldn't want deprive myself of drunken courage. But it could be a thing to do to increase chances to be sure.

This guy pulled it off with some booze:

Which model of Malawi is this? I checked out the Malawi 2 man Festival and I saw "Multiple vents and mesh door allow air flow throughout whilst keeping out insects" as one of its features. Sorry I can't find any pictures of the interior, so I couldn't tell.

After doing some research I actually think the opposite is true, and a little alcohol consumption can medically assist.

Obviously I did not find any studies on whether alcohol increases effectiveness of various suicide methods, but if you combine these two (and similar) articles, the end result is a little alcohol increases heart rate and dialtes blood vessels. Red blood cells will always attach to CO before O2, therefore higher blood flow through bigger blood vessels will increase the rate at which CO clogs up the red blood cells.

[Edit: note that at higher levels of intoxication, i.e. stumbling and slurred speech, alcohol has the opposite effect. So get yourself a little Dutch Courage but not too much :)]

The first article is a bit technical, but you can skip to the good summary (conclusion) just before the intro: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5719941/
The second is a bit more humourous in style and worth a read to the end

What about setting the malawi up in your biggest tent, put the charcoal in the malawi then lay down with just your head inside it then zip it around your neck?

Problem with a 2 persn popup tent is they are really only big enough for 1 person to be comfy. You don't want to be laying too close to the bbq incase you roll into it.
If you just had your head inside that can't happen.

I have thought about that but kind of decided against it for a few reasons... could explain that later.

I feel like rolling onto it isn't likely unless the ground is tilted (I mean how often do you roll out of bed?) and from my experience the other night by the time I brought the BBQ in it wasn't super super hot. That said, I'm trying to come up with some precautions. My current thinking is to find some things to use to create a barrier like bricks and stones.

Same. This is the original method I plan to use to ctb. But considering all circumstances Zanexx had to surpass I have my doubts now. I certainly don't have that much 'funds' to keep buying tents or extend my stay at a campsite. I gotta hand it to you Zanexx man you're determination and resilience in trying to make this work kudos to you and truly truly hope that it will work out in the end that you will see your end soon.

I only have two (about to be three) tents. Of course I'm using a tent. Or did I misunderstand?
Hey Zanexx. Glad to see you are making some progress. I think Great-Ape99 meant to use a folded up tent as a barrier.
