So I decided to start going to a therapist about my issues a few ago before the pandemic and only resumed last week. She told me that having a foot fetish and snot fetish is unhealthy.

The thing is, other people I talk to say so long as it's consensual, any fetish is okay even though it may be weird.

What do you think?

Literally all you need to hear. I totally agree with ravergirl and _Minsk too. Get a new therapist.
I would also argue that kink shaming is unhealthy behaviour. >>

everyone has their things that make them weird or not normal, but as far as this is concerned, so what, as long as everyone involved with it is cool. as a wiccan i believe in the wiccan rede which is: An' it harm none, do what ye will. as long as no ones getting hurt....who cares?

Your therapist is wrong for kink shaming, and like others' said, as long as it's not harmful to others and it's consensual between you and the other person (or group), then there is nothing wrong with it. There are some fetishes that pose a physical danger and/or health risk, but foot and snot isn't.

Your therapist has no idea what they're talking about clearly. As long as everyone involved is consenting there's nothing unhealthy about it.

While I love this place and I support pro choice ideology. I'd still say it's alot more detrimental to your health to be here than it is to have some sexual kink or fetish.

A foot fetish is the most common fetish there is. There's nothing wrong with snot, either. If your therapist considers these to be unhealthy, and even wants to "treat" you for them, then yeah, stop seeing them.

If it is within your personal limits and consensual, it is OK. Go for it!

ICD-10, article F65.0 Fetishism, section on diagnostic guidelines:

Fetishism should be diagnosed only if the fetish is the most important source of sexual stimulation or essential for satisfactory sexual response. Fetishistic fantasies are common, but they do not amount to a disorder unless they lead to rituals that are so compelling and unacceptable as to interfere with sexual intercourse and cause the individual distress.

So, world specialists say that only if you or your partner are unhappy about it, then it's a problem. It depends on the exact context of the discussion it was brought up, but there is a possibility - e.g. if you just mentioned having these fetishes while describing your general mental condition - that your therapist is showing his/her prejudices there.

Foot fetish is one of the milder fetishes out there lol. As long as it's consensual and legal it's not really a problem. Certain kinks by themselves are not unhealthy but it can become unhealthy depending on your behaviour or if it starts affecting physical/mental health etc.

I have plenty of fetishes and there are a lot of things wrong with me but those really aren't the negatives imo. As long as you care for your partners and ensure everyone involved is okay it is fine.

At least your fetish is not illegal or dangerous .

If it was something illegal then i would be very very concerned.

There people out there with foot fetishs so you are not the only one just like people who like being whipped during sex and gagged.

People have fetishs sometimes which others will find weird.

If is not illegal or harmful to others then there is nothing to worry about.
Ignore close minded people and live your life.
If you are a loving partner, respectful and respect consent laws then there is nothing wrong with you :)

Having a fetish is usually not the issue, the real problem is how you explore it, and how it affects your life. your therapist may just be a bad biased professional (I've noticed that many of the female therapists that I've worked with tend to disagree with males exploring any kind of fetishes) or she is seeing something that we don't.

Foot fetishes are in the very low end of the spectrum, it's somewhat common and is usually healthy. however, that doesn't mean that It can't be detrimental.

I'm going to be honest, we don't know the full story so throwing random encouraging claims about how good fetishes are is not healthy.
I do agree that fetishes are usually not an issue and are perfectly fine, almost everyone has one, but we can't ignore the fact that some people basically ruin their or someone else's lives with even the smallest of fetishes explored in the wrong way.

So in the end you should ask yourself how much is this fetish affecting your life. It's usually nothing, so don't worry too much about it, but you should also ask your theraphist why she thinks that way, listening to multiple perspectives is always better.
