It would help me right now considerably. I would be able to relocate away from my wife and her family and potentially carry on the good work I did before marrying her and moving across the world to be with her.

Right now it seems like my only hope is the ropes I've made and hidden.

It might delay the inevitable I guess. It wouldn't fix my loneliness, but I could be distracted by fake replacements for friendships/relationships in gold diggers or something for a while. Having enough money to donate to charities and give to my family would also be pretty rewarding.

Now that I think of it, if I was rich I probably wouldn't be for very long...

I would be able to afford a therapist. It might buy some time to get some help. The way it is now I can't see a therapist because I can't afford to do so.

Would definitely keep me alive for longer (finances being a reason for my decision to ctb) and make me a little happier, however I believe the end result would be the same. I'm a very lonely person, with no friends outside of the internet (even then, there's only really one person online who cares about me) and as much as money can do for you, it can't buy real friendship or love to share experiences with those people, so in reality for me it'd be pointless.

I can't enjoy life no matter what I have or how rich I am. If I could get a doctor to put me on opioids for the pain maybe but that won't happen unfortunately for me. I'm controlled by pain.

Tbh I don't think I would. Sure money doesn't directly buy happiness, but it definitely does indirectly. I'd be happy if I was living in a beach house in Hawaii, didn't have to worry about finances or anything for that matter, could hire the best therapist there is, could spend my days doing things I enjoy.

I'm FINALLY over that phase in my life though. Buying people's love doesn't work long term. Only a short term illusion. Rather be a recluse than a doormat. You sound like me. I have PTSD from the way I've been treated by people I did everything for. I'm alone and better off.

I'd definitely be motivated to live for some years, I mean, a rich's life is kinda tempting, but then I'd CTB anyway because money can't solve my existence issues. And as one user said, I'd die happily giving all that money to my family and donating some of it to different institutions :)

Well with Covid money doesn´t really make any difference. Think of all the rich people that CTB, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, the list goes on and on. If you have a void inside you money can fill it up for a while but without a real purpose or meaning in your life you would eventually go back to your suicidal tendencies.

Covid is going to ruin so many people's lives (well the lockdowns etc are), so I expect a lot of people will have financial issues to contend with that will push them over the edge.

Ya know, I think beyond being able to do cool things with friends I think wealth doesn't really change mental aspects for a lot of people. I was talking about aging with my friend the other day, and we basically were talking about how everything above your basic needs and some comforts are status symbols. His parents are in healthcare and make decent money, but he said they come home exhausted and watch TV all evening. Then I told him about a very wealthy housewife I know who despite not having to work, just sits in her multimillion dollar home watching TV all day too.

I used to be obsessed with status items, then I realized they do nothing for my mental health. Tons of lavish vacations generated great memories, but only because I had friends there with me. Wealth by itself doesn't do much, because if you're unhappy anywhere by yourself like I am, you'll generally be unhappy anywhere on the globe.

I'm very ambivalent about my death, I really do NOT want to get old and I'm unable to work so I feel deserving of SSI at least. Hey, even on that tiny income, I'll be doing the same stuff my wealthy friends parents do all day apparently, sitting around watching TV. If I knew I wouldn't have to work or leech off of my parents and would have a guaranteed monthly income for the rest of my life I might even buy an RV or something and live close by, delaying my death. Just knowing you have your basic needs met without having to save and constantly be terrified of funding the future does a huge amount of good for your mental health.

I have BPD, and I think of someone like Marilyn Monroe who was also reported to have it. She was extremely wealthy and famous, yet she said she was "generally miserable." If her vast wealth and freedom to do whatever she wanted didn't make her happy, there isn't much hope for someone normal with the condition.

1st define rich.

i.e. Someone earning €100 a week but needs only €99 is rich.
Someone earning €20000 a week but needs €20001 is poor.

Money makes parts of life easier (security and comfort) and some harder (keeping and protecting your assets is work). You also never know if you're loved because of you being you or because of you being useful.

Enough "rich" people are depressed and commit suicide.

If I were rich I could be the one taking care of my friends instead of the other way around so maybe. However depression doesn't discriminate and life is a crap shoot, i could have a million dollars and probably be depressed enough to not want to be around
