When I say afterlife, this can mean any instance of what can happen after: ending up in heaven/hell, being reincarnated, anything.

If you knew things like this could happen to you, would you still CTB or no? Why? In my case, I'd just go for it. Fuck it.

But if an afterlife existed, we would have to face it one day if we ctb or not, because we will all die eventually. I would choose to ctb still, as I am tired of this life and maybe whatever is on the other side may not be as bad. I do not want any after life and I do not believe in it anyway. The only thing that I want is non existence.

I do believe in reincarnation. I started to do a lot of research into my family a few years ago and believe that I'm the reincarnation of my grandfather, who died in the late 1940's. I don't really want to go into too many details on here, but there were just so many co-relations between my life and his.

However, I felt like that I was going down a rabbit-hole and was getting too obsessed with the past (which I cannot) change instead of focusing on the future and things that I can change.

I also did a a few hypnosis sessions on future lives but really didn't get too far. Saw myself as a youngish woman working in the USAF somewhere in California. My nickname was 'Red' and I wasn't a pilot. Not sure of the year or era, but there was a lot of civil unrest, almost like a Civil War, but not totally full-blown. I'm obsessed by Ireland in the future life. Weird!

Is it okay if I message you about those hypnosis sessions? Sounds interesting

Here's the the thing. If you are the reincarnation of your grandfather, then your grandfather isn't experiencing your life, "you" are. Do you think your grandfather knows he is now "OldDrumer"? I'm just scratching the surface on why I don't believe in reincarnation.

To answer the OP's question, I don't believe in afterlife, but if I did I'd ctb anyway when life became unbearable.

If there's a Farplane...
I would. Means he could visit me there using pyreflies as an illusion.

If there's a Lifestream...
I would. Means the Maiden who travels the planet would soothe the soul.

If there's a crystal...
I would. Means a euphoria's Memoria would welcome me.

If there's nothing...
I would. Stasis and equilibrium is bliss.

You see there?

Oh and vitavis.

Exactly. It's the difference between being the actor and playing a role, or ego and ID if you will.

We define ourselves via our personality, but this isn't the 'true' self. There's the old Buddhist mediation mantra of "Describe the face you had before you were born".

The more I learned of my Grandfather, the more I disliked him. I certainly wouldn't have gotten on with him too well in real life!

Ctb no matter. Honestly the only hope I would have for an afterlife would be reuniting with my partner... anything else, just make it all end please. I'm done.

So?

@OldDrummer is saying he believes that he was his grandfather in another life. Let the man speak.

It would depend on the type of afterlife there is. If I could know for certain that the afterlife is better than life here, I wouldn't hesitate to ctb. If on the other hand, I could know for certain that the afterlife was a worse than here, I wouldn't ctb. I would try to hold out as long as possible. There is no point in my being stupid and ctbing, if I am only going to end up in a worse place and have to suffer even more than I am now.

I wish that it was possible to take a peek and see what awaits us after death. If I could know for certain if there is an afterlife or not, and if so what type of afterlife it is, it would help me a lot to overcome my SI.

Fellow Final Fantasy fan!!! I just finished Final Fantasy X again :3c
As for the question. I would do it, I just want to rest from this, but I hope that whatever exists if they exist at all can empathize with my suffering and let me rest

I believe in the afterlife and am only ctb-ing because the situation I'm in right now is unbearable. If afterlife will be better or worse don't know but at least I'll get some conclusion from this shit I'm dealing with right now.

I don't believe in any form of afterlife, since there has never been any evidence that an afterlife exists and it doesn't make any sense considering what we already have learned about the universe.

Having said that, if there was any chance that an afterlife existed in which I would be reunited with my dead husband, then I would have killed myself a long time ago just to be with him again.

Oh boy, this topic freaks me out. I want to believe there's something better out there for us but at the same time there's a very high chance that there's nothing. I'm training myself to be okay with either outcome.

I do believe in an afterlife, and it hasn't changed my mind at all. I personally believe that we get to choose whether or not we're reincarnated, and I'll be choosing not to be. I plan on staying in Asphodel forever

Depends on what exactly we knew. If I had reason to believe that killing myself would make the afterlife significantly worse for me (i.e. I could feel certain that I'd cause myself more pain in the next life than I'd escape in this one), I'd reconsider. Otherwise? Well, otherwise I'd end up going to about the same afterlife sooner or later, right? So why wait around suffering more?

I don't believe in reincarnation because, with my luck, I'd come back as a dung beetle. As for leaving this world because there might be another—no, I don't think I would. To be crass, I'll leave this world when I can't afford to be in it anymore. I don't really believe in afterlives though…

In Ancient Egypt, the Scarabaeus Sacer ('Holy Beetle') was likened to Khepri, the 'God of the Sunrise'; the scarab beetle was thus connected to the rebirth and immortality of the Sun, and the ball of dung was associated with the solar disc.

Little did they know the sun is not immortal, all things in life are impermanent and in a state of atrophy. Bodies die and decompose, rocks turns to dust, foliage decays and turns to compost. This will continue until the earth itself becomes inhospitable to life. The sun in 7 billion years will be a red giant and consume the earth before ultimately burning out and becoming a white dwarf or a black hole.

I used to think of that beetle and the solar disk as a symbol of eternal nature, and the cyclical nature of life that appears to be immortal as it outlives us, but when I started studying physics I realized that the onward march of time means everything is in a state of atrophy, the earth, the sun, the galaxy and universe, will all come to an end, even if it is in billions of years.

No thing lasts forever.

I would not ctb. I would take advantage and be grateful for everything in this life and try to make the best of this one life so the afterlife would feel more "rewarding". If I suffer more heavily in this life and stick it out until the end; the afterlife would be like paradise^2. In my head it's like, more suffering = larger afterlife upgrades.

No pain, no gain.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. If you're not being sarcastic, I would be careful what you say. 1. You're being "pro-life" 2. There is no "proof" to what you say, so you will have every Bill Nye of SaSu on your ass.

I'm pro-choice, however if there was DEFINITIVE proof of an afterlife, I would not ctb. There will never be proof of an afterlife, I would think, at least not in this life for all of us. The only way we could know is to actually see (dying).

First I would see I could improve my circumstances in my life, fix relationship after divorce, get kid back, among other things but if they are doomed, I would leave this sh*tty existence and be with my mother and father in an assured afterlife

Until the heat death of the universe.

And that's still no reason to think consciousness extends beyond this life.

It might make me hold off for a bit, actually.

A big reason why I want to ctb is because I hate my very consciousness. If that's going to continue anyway, may as well wait as long as I can tolerate. I want oblivion. Anything else is too painful.
