because they always eventually fall through. a lot of the time it's inadequate or not fit for purpose anyway & thats my fault for rolling with it despite knowing

I understand completely. Its basically a 'Fair Weather' world.....friends or acquaintances are there, as long as everything is going smoothly (fair weather).
Once things start going difficult, they are no where to be found.
Ive had long term romantic relationships go this way....thought I could count on them, but in the long run they easily betrayed me and were ready to leave once things were difficult.
