I've been wanting a job so much, more so to pay the bills than anything. Everything I already wanted rejected me, so I was left applying to anything since it's the summer and I needed money. I got a job at a fast food type place. My first day is today, but I'm dreading it.

Any time I've had a fast food job, it's been an atrocious experience. I hate that it boiled down to getting this but I couldn't do anything about it.

I'm trying to keep a positive mindset, since I'm actually not working crazy hours or anything which I'm grateful for, and I obviously should probably feel grateful that I even can work, but I don't know, it's hard to feel grateful currently. My shift starts at 10:30 and ends at 7PM so it's quite a long shift, they usually seem to schedule for mornings and then outside of that, it's just a manager and a driver or two at night. I'm not a driver so I'm probably working mostly morning shifts, which means if that's the case, I likely can't take it into the next semester with me, as I have a very unusual schedule next semester (chose classes late, got bad picks) and not sure if I even want to.

Anyways, I just needed to vent that out, but I'm going to try and keep a somewhat positive mindset going into it and remembering that I just need the money, which is why most people work anyways, nobody really wants to, it's a requirement to live.

It depends on country. I live on social assistance, I live on government support. (taxpayers money) I get about 1400 euroes per month. I feel like fucking loser. I want contribute to society.

Good luck. It's just temporary till you establish your career you've been working so hard for.

Jobs aren't purpose, they're means to an end. What that end is, is for you to try and figure out.

Jobs can be a purpose, I had a meaningful fun job. I doubt that's the norm though, those are hard to come by.

I pursued my own business doing what I love, but it's hard to earn enough esprcially with my values and goals.

Having any job is a good start though, it doesn't need to be the purpose.

Seconding everyone who's pointed out that this is a good-but-intermediary step in the scope of your career/life, not an end. I hope it goes well.

Eh to be fair, I was also fairly miserable before, not a bunch has changed.
Good luck. It's just temporary till you establish your career you've been working so hard for.
Thank you, that's what I'm using to help get me through it, thinking of it as a stop gap until I can graduate college.

Hopefully your business takes off or at least makes you enough money. Thank you, I suppose I'll search for purpose elsewhere.

Thank you, it's always good to have second opinions. I hope things go well, particularly post graduation, for both of us.
